I had seen that but thought the only telltale sign was slow acceleration and klunking. This feels more like it is in manual mode and you forget to shift it to the next gear once you reach speed.
-
Never heard of that before. But why would it be transient? I'll have to pay more attention...maybe it was only doing it when teh engine was still relatively cold and the cats aren't as efficeint??

I did a quick search and didn't find anything that quite matches what I noticed recently. Basically when we first picked up the Edge and right through our recent trip on vacation the tranny always seemed to be smooth and shift appropriately. Last weekend when I was driving it seems like this behavior has changed a bit. I know there is some learning feature to the tranny and I know the wife tends to use the accelerator as an on/off switch but I thought this behavior was strange. What I noticed was that if I accelerate easy to moderately the tranny holds the gear longer than expected but still shifts relatively smooth with no klunks. It feels almost like when you are heading downhill and it downshifts to help engine brake. It seems most pronounced at the 5 to 6 shift; maybe because at that point I am at cruising speed of 50-60, but it will hold 5th for a few seconds longer than it should and a couple times I had to blip the throttle to get it to go to 6th. What is really strange is yesterday I didn't notice this, but it was a short ride. Thoughts?

Sync my ride MFT upgrade avaliable?
wlepse replied to mv-clear's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Yeah that is what the tech suggested at syncmyride but I don't want to do it until this weekend when I can drive the car around and see if it helped. But I guess I still have a two questions maybe people here can answer. 1) When things started getting really bad I pulled fuse 29, nothing changed. But according to the tech this should be the same as a master reset and should have cleared my phone pairing etc. Any thought on why it wouldn't? And I did verify there was no power to touchscreen after pulling so it was the right fuse. 2) If the MFT was OK with 2.7 but terrible with 2.11 could it really be the APIM? Why would updating software cause it to die? Or is it that there is some hardware that isn't properly supported with the new software? Just seems too coincidental that the MFT was slow and had a few hiccups before 2.11 but now has them daily. It really is incredibly frustrating and distracting when it happens but I guess the silver lining is they keep putting it in more vehicles so I think it is sink or swim for them. And hearing that the completely rewriten software is close makes me feel more at ease. Just glad I didn't buy one of these when they first came out. -
Sync my ride MFT upgrade avaliable?
wlepse replied to mv-clear's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Ugh...5-6 months of waiting for a functional MFT So frustrating...really am wishing I didn't update to 2.11 since it is far more troublesome on our system. Makes me wonder if they also have hardware variations they are fighting too since peoples experiences vary so much as well. -
I have not used any of the tools to trigger the TPMS so I can't help you there. But on the wheel size you can run 17's but I would be careful to make sure you get a tire that has the correct load capacity. Once you drop to 17's you might find more passenger car tires that would fit but not necessarily be appropriate. Typically though TR info is very good, so if they list the tire you should be OK. As for the Goodyear; I was looking at this tire as well and it appears as if it is new for this year so you aren't going to find any test results yet. I did find a few write ups on Goodyears marketing event were people said they were great but I would like to see something independent. You may want to reach out to TR and see when they will have their testing up. While not perfect it is somewhat impartial.

Yes you still have (3) preset groups of (6).

Sync my ride MFT upgrade avaliable?
wlepse replied to mv-clear's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
I would like to believe this but I am not sure if I can believe it. I just had an email exchange with someone in tech support at Sync and they didn't mention anything about this. He said my options were either a master reset or take it to the dealer to try to replicate the problem. -
I don't think so or at least I haven't found a way. But if going through your presets is enough you can use the seek button as well as going through the screen on the right of the dash.

From what I have read you can't add it on your own. There is speculation that Ford may enable you to do so in the future but as of now it isn't possible. But the navigation is loadded on a flash card (SD) that goes in your consol slot. Once the necessary changes have been made in the program by the dealer it should work. I say should work since the hardware is the same between nav and non nav units but the MFT is very buggy so it may not be that easy. This may also be the reason Ford is not currently allowing you to add it in the field.

Yeah...have trapster on my Tomtom...really wish we could import POI's to the cars nav, but right about now I would just like a working MFT.

Has anyone installed this usb update?
wlepse replied to juscruzn's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
Yeah we are having big problems now with the radio...constant locking up, staying on after you leave the car, no longer can we see artists listed under USB but it will list albums??? Think I need to call tech support and see what they can advise. I think something must have gotten corrupted during the install because it is 5 x's worse than before. -
Wow good find...thanks! I did find another site : http://www.stopbigbrothermd.org/ They seem to have a big issue with the speed enforcement cameras. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if we were doing 67mph on I-95 as that is typically what everyone is doing if not faster, so I wouldn't fight it but this site might be useful to those that think their citation was incorrect.

Well I found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driver_License_Compact So it appears Maryland and NJ do share info but NJ will only assess 2 points regardless of infraction. So next step is to see what the insurance says.
-
I thought the same thing but if I pick the box that says I wasn't driving it says I need to prove I wasn't behind the wheel. In another part of the letter it stated that I was responsible for the fine as I am the registered owner. So with the two statements I was afraid checking the box of guilty means I automatically agree that I was the driver as well and points could be issued. Maybe I should check check with my insurance agent to see what their policy is...if this would be disregarded anyway it isn't worth discussing $40 bucks. Just not sure how to bring that up without raising the red flag.
-
OK, so a couple weeks back we drove down to SC for vacation in the Edge and one of us must have been speeding and got picked up by a Maryland photo radar set up. On the back of the letter I have to make a plea and my options were basically guilty, not guilty want a court appearance or I wasn't driving. To be honest I am not sure if I was driving at that point or not and really could care less if I pay the fine ($40) or not but I am more concerned about the points since NJ kills you on insurance to begin with let alone having points. So does anyone know if Maryland transfers moving violations to NJ? I also need to check with my current insurance carrier. My previous; State farm, ignored violations that were less than 15mph over the limit. This ticket is for 67 in a 55 so it might be a non issue anyway.

Has anyone installed this usb update?
wlepse replied to juscruzn's topic in Audio, Backup, Navigation & SYNC
If you don't have issues with your current software on the MFT I wouldn't change. We were running 2.7 and it was OK, ran a little slow and had a few "performing scheduled maintenance" screens but not too frequent. Did the USB upgrade and now it is terrible. Almost daily we get the maintenance screens and those are usually the good days. Over the weekend the radio was completely inoperable. Dash display said it was off, try to hit the button to turn it on, you hear the beep but nothing. Late yesterday it finally started working again. But even this is with plenty of issues, like artists are no longer listed under USB. So my advice is if you are OK with what you have sit tight until you have a problem or Ford releases the complete rewrite. -
There doesn't really seem to be a consensus on this and I doubt there ever will be. Retro solutions offers a kit with what the call a Ford specific harness. I have inquired here about what the harness includes and it definitely has a relay like all aftermarket harnesses but some say it also has a capacitor. If you go for a kit I suggest you do get a harness as Ford uses a pulsed voltage that can wreck havoc on the ballasts. The capacitor could help smooth these spikes but if you run off a harness the ballasts will derive power directly from the battery so it shouldn't be needed. The OEM bulbs are 9012 but the 9006 kits fit in this socket too. As for a vendor...that is where things get tough. You will hear horror stories about everyone of them if you look hard enough. Honestly I don't know how much it matters since they are all likely to be Chinese made, so you can get some good kits and some bad since the quality control is suspect. For that reason I will likely go back to DDM Tuning since the prices are pretty good (starts at $35) and my other kits from them were still working fine after 3 years. One was a 55W the other a 35W, neither had a harness. I did have an occasion bulb that wouldn't fire which was annoying but I think a harness would have helped that.

Haven't had that issue before. We just can't get ours to do the one touch open even after doing the intialization. Maybe you should try the initialization?? Maybe it thinks the resistance to close is too high and thinks it must already be closed?
-
I don't know for sure but don't see why it would be a problem. One of the remote start kits comes with separate keyfob, so I would think it is just a matter of getting it programmed at the dealer. Also I don't think you'll lose access to one of your keys...I believe I read somewhere you can have up to 4 keys.

Wow...I know these are expensive for most people but on the way back from vacation I saw a rack made by Kuat...freaking amazing! All aluminum construction, my Saris Cycle On Pro is badly corroded after 5 years and it comes with a lifetime warranty. They even have one that has a built in bike repair stand. Will definitely be getting one of these eventually. As for the hitch itself...just the new Curt 13067 yesterday and I am itching to get it on and see if it gets rid of the clunking. I will post results later.

Hmm...I think mine only indexed when I initially installed it. After that it is avaiable right from start up. Well within maybe 30 seconds but it isn't indexing then. I say that not only because it isn't indicating that it is indexing but because the initial indexing took over 15 minutes. Though I do believe mine acts the same in regards to start up, since the drive isn't available immediately it picks last used.

Factory suction cup marks?
wlepse replied to wlepse's topic in Glass, Lenses, Lighting, Mirrors, Sunroof (BAMR), Wipers
Thanks for the tips...since it finally stopped raining here I am hoping to get this cleaned up this weekend. -
Shouldn't be a problem...we have a hard drive hooked up via USB that has over 60GB of music and it works great. We still have trouble getting voice commands to work to find the right artist or song but that could even be us??? But even if you have an issue with the MFT the temp has separate buttons so you should be OK. I hear you on the snows...heard the Michelin's aren't teh best so I am thinking more and more about picking up a set.
