  1. Good news bad news. You can follow the instructions for the Draw Tite 75526 to install the cheaper Valley 82162 but there is one big problem. The cans hit the hitch! I did verify the part number on the hitch is correct so I don't know if it is an issue with 2011 Edge's but I would have thought Ford left the exhaust the same since the engine was not changed or the chassis. Unfortunately it isn't even close, I probably need another 1/2" on both sides to clear the cans. But I am not sure if that would even provide enough clearance to not hear clunking. I contacted Amazon to let them know their fitment isn't correct and they are working with me but to be honest I don't think I want to deal with the clunking, even if occasional, for a few bucks back. I was hoping to do the mod above but not sure now...will keep you posted on what I find.
  2. Well I guess mine isn't working then....tried with lights on in auto and nothing. SO I guess I'll have something for them to look at with the first OC.
  3. Normally I am not a fan of brown and a lot of manufacturersare coming out with their own variations of earth tones. But I do have to say when I saw it in person it was quite nice. My only concern with the color is I tend to keep cars for a long time and wasn't sure if my interest in the color would fade over time. But in the end the Edge was purchased for the wife so it doesn't matter what I like.
  4. What of those costs do you think are inflated? 5W-20 rarely is on sale and if I am buying a PremiumCare plan I would only use OEM filters since I don't think it is worth the risk of them denying a claim for a couple dollar difference and just over 400 for all four corners I think is pretty reasonable. In general I agree with you though on paying for soemthing now that won't be used for several years but I am leary of PremiumCare denials due to lack of maintenance. When I did a search on the PremiumCare plan I saw a lot of people bitching about refused claims. To be fair, most people will only post to complain and often only tell part of the story. But when you see a lot of these postings it does make you wonder. If others here have positive reviews of the plan I would feel more comfortable doing these services on my own. As a side note the need for the PremiumCare plan was reinforced recently when a coworkers Edge recently needed a PTU replacement with 75k on the clock at a cost of ~$2k. He didn't have an ESP.
  5. Well the quote I am getting for 6yr/125k and 10k interval is $1275. If I go by the chart in the manual on page 379 I would have to do the following in that period: 12 oil changes, 6 cabin filters, 4 engine air filters, coolant flush, plugs, belts and I would have to do brakes at least once. The only thing I can't do on my own is the coolant flush since I can't dispose of the fluid easily but most places would charge around $100 for that. The oil changes would cost me ~$30 each (5.5qts*$3.5+10), cabin filters (6*15=90), engine air filter (4*15=60), plugs (6*15=90) and belts are likely to be about 50. That comes to a total of $750 to perform most of the work myself not including brakes. Once you add in brakes we are looking at around 80 per corner for rotors and another 25 for pads. That brings my total to $1170. Now if they don't cover rotors the difference really favors the DIY'r but if they do and cover more than one replacement it really isn't a bad deal. Especially since I would have the piece of mind knowing anything is their problem, plus have a little more free time and I would be able to make the wife actually take care of her own car! I just wife I could find something in writing that states what is covered.
  6. I had the same issue but with an aftermarket modified bulb....I just figured it was because the tabs were cut and you can't see what the heck you are doing. But maybe it wasn't the bulb and is more of a housing issue.
  7. I definitely don't want 3rd party as you said...in these tough economic times even a company with good ratings may not be around for long...at least with Ford I have the best chance of it remaining covered. As for the maintenance I would normally agree with you since I can do just about anything that might need doing but I still have two major concerns: 1) No where can I find an accurate service schedule. On Ford's site they miss OCI's and as mentioned above have no set intervals on filter changes. Also no where did I see info on differential flushes or tranny. In the Edge manual there is a chart that says OCI's 10k, cabin filter 20k, engine air 30k, at 100k do plugs coolant and possibly belts and at 150k do a tranny flush but they also mention a manual tranny flush (as far as I know there is no manual) and a timing belt change on a Fiesta???? What do I care about a Fiesta? 2) One person at Ford (ESP rep) and one online retailer said having reciepts for oil and filters were not sufficient proof should you have engine trouble especially if there is sludge. Since my last two cars have had some sludge build up even with regular (shorter than manufacturer specified) OCI's with synthetic I am a bit nervous. Granted these were both turbo charged cars though. Since neither of the above are clear and Ford seems unable to make them clear I am hesitant. My original thought was if I get both coverages and anything happens it is on them since they do all the services too.
  8. First let me state...sorry for the long rambling post. I know this is a contentious subject but I am not looking for reasons for or against the Ford PremiumCare ESP and Premium Maintenance Plans, I just need to clarify what the hell they are and actually cover. Basically it comes down to this: this is our first Ford and while we love the car we are apprehensive about the PTU, vista roof and MFT issues in particular. While we have never needed an extended warranty in the past we have a baby boy and are looking to purchase a new home soon. I would rather bite the bullet now and pay for this coverage when I know we have the money. I just know my luck, the engine and tranny will blow right when the roof leaks and the furnace dies. My original plan was to buy both policies to cover the Edge for 6yrs/125k miles, initial costs are ~ $2900 or $480/yr which seemed reasonable to me. Anyway the first question is what the hell is the maintenance schedule for the 2011 Edge? The manual states OCI's at 10k or as directed by dash display. Well the plans I have seen listed are based on time, mileage and service intervals. If I pick a 10k plan per the manual for 6yr/125k but the vehicle suggests OCI's at 7.5k am I still covered to the full 125k? I have seen references to the services being limited in number, which is fine but no where can I find what these are and what they cover. In fact Fords own site has bad info for 2011 Edge maintenance schedule. They indicate the following: 10k cabin filter and oil change, 20k cabin filter and oil, 30k air filter and oil, 40k cabin filter and oil, 60k cabin/air filters and oil, 80k cabin and oil, 90k air filter and oil, 100k coolant, plugs, cabin and oil and 120k cabin/air filters and oil. This schedule makes no sense since it misses OCI's at 50, 70 and 110k and seems to have no rhyme or reason for filter changes. Also it says it covers wear items like brake pads, but what about rotors? I have seen some postings referring to only one brake job being covered, but does this depend on the length of the policy? If I choose to do this work on my own what records are sufficient to prove the services were done? I have seen some people (other forums) get denied since the receipts for oil and filters did not prove they were installed/performed on that vehicle. On the PremiumCare plan, I was told this is basically a bumper to bumper warranty and that I should only pay attention to what the brochure says it doesn't cover. This just doesn't sit right with me, maybe it is the engineer in me but I like things to be black and white. If that was really all there was to it why not make the brochure that simple? For instance the MFT is not listed and one person at Ford told me it wasn't covered yet another said it was... What about the Vista roof? Or the complete AWD system? They make vague references to AWD but nothing concrete. Also it specifically states water leaks are not covered, but what about damage caused by leaks from a covered component like the vista roof? Also I have seen several posts and mentions to the plan being refunded for unused portion but can't find anything in the brochure. Anyone with first hand experience with this? What I find most concerning about this is the lack of knowledge from Ford's side. The first person I spoke to was completely useless. She told me that OCI's were 5k and the MFT wasn't covered but said HVAC, NAV and stereo would be covered....when I explained that the MFT was the interface for that she just said oh. Then she told me to call Ford's warranty pre-approval line and I got someone that was super helpful but the whole experience leaves me wondering if they really know what they are selling. Or is it most people blindly buy these things so they don't need to know anything. Or is this another case of my analysis paralysis keeping me from pulling the trigger?
  9. Has anyone that has to do these frequent reboots thought about installing a switch? I would think you could use one of those fuse taps to install a switch and maybe mount it in that little cubby in the console. Might make it easier for on the go reboots without having to shut the car down get out and pull the fuse. Or is there something else on #29 you can't pull while motoring?
  10. Definitely not on the touch screen but I thought it did say "my temp". I'll have to double check later. But on the panel below the touch screen there are the two knobs, on the drivers side there is a button that I think says "my temp" with a red button on one side and a blue on the other. If I press this button there is no orange back light, but if I hit the rear or front defroster it does light.
  11. So this morning I had my first glitch in the MFT. Everything was working great until I got a call, after teh call ended there remained a blank dialog box on the screen. No matter what screen you went to it was still there, but only the navigation screen was grayed out. I tried shutting the car off, opening/closing the door and restarting but nothing. I did find a way to get it to go away, I picked a new destination in the GPS and it was normal again. Any ideas what this was? I am still at 2.7 but haven't wanted to go to the dealer until I had an actual issue since it seems like some updates fix certain this but mess with others. I'll try to post up a pic later, my work machine won't let me use BT.
  12. OK...maybe I need to clarify. I am not referring to the button display state on the MFT 8" screen but the back lighting on the capacitance switch.
  13. Yes and no....yes because at least I know...but no because that means somethings broke
  14. Installed mine the other day...only issue I had was pealing off the pink layer also pulled the protector off. But I got it back on and all looks good so far.
  15. By glare I wasn't referring to misdirected light out of the projector but feedback off reflective signs. I don't know if it is the wavelength of light or the intensity but these bulbs really tend to make sings difficult to read since they seem like they are glowing. But with that said I installed one in the passenger side and don't see much of a difference. I will report back after I get more night time driving but I don't see much of a difference and getting it in there wasn't easy. You have to modify the tabs which is easy but you also have to remove the key in the connector to get it hooked up. Not terrible but not worth the time for what I am seeing and the $50 bucks for bulbs. But again these bulbs are 2 years old so they may have lost some power, but they were highs so they didn't get used much. Again I will update after I get some more drive time.
  16. Good to know. The drive I am using now is a little flaky so I was going to be watching for a back up...now I know not to get 3.0. But that works out better since I can probably get a 2.0 on close out dirt cheap.
  17. I never noticed but a buddy riding in the car noticed that the my temp button doesn't light up. When you touch it you hear the beep indicating it changed but it doesn't light like the rest of the buttons like rear/front defroster and dual buttons. Not sure if it is supposed to or not, can anyone confirm what theirs does?
  18. Really? I would have thought it would just throttle itself back to 2.0 or whatever was supported.
  19. OK that is what I figured. like I said earlier pying 2 more payments won't mean much to me and it would be useful to keep a good relationship with the dealer since they are close to my office. I just wanted to make sure if I paid in 5 months that I wouldn't loss the 1k and be paying interest.
  20. I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the documents I signed, the only thingI could find was that there is no early prepayment fees. I think if it were written in the contract the dealer would have been sure of teh time period. That is why I think they were hedging their bet and saying 5 months because maybe Ford isn't paying out the incentive as fast as they used to???
  21. So we recently purchased a Ford and financed the minimum amount to get the extra $1000 rebate. During the test drives etc we were told that Ford requires you hold the loan for 3 months then you can pay it off. Then the day we are picking up the car they tell me to make at least 5 payments. So which is it? And what does this minimum payment really mean? I guess my concern is that they still weren't sure about how many months I need to pay, so I am left wondering what the real requirement is. Say I make one payment then the next month pay it off, do they take back the $1000 or is that not possible since we have a contract of sale and no where does it mention minimum payments. So is this minimum payment thing really just for the dealership? Meaning that by 5 months Ford gives them their commision/kickback for the loan origination? A few extra payments is no big deal since the interest rate is low, but I would be pissed if I made 6 payments, end up paying more interest and I lose the 1k incentive. Does anyone know the truth behind this?
  22. Yeah I think the PIAA's would look out of place on the Edge. I'll see what I can do on the bulbs and let you know. But keep in mind mine have already been modified to fit 9005 housings, so I might not be able to comment on exactly what needs to be cut from a new bulb.
  23. Well last night I hooked up a Western Digital portable drive formatted exFAT with ~55GB of music. It took about 10 minutes for the system to completely index the drive but it shows up and plays fine. I can search through the disk by artist/album/genre etc without any issues, well some lag but that is part of the MFT experience. I think I still have some more I need to load up and I will spend some time to get the ID3 tags set up so genre searches are useful. But as stated above my music is setup artist/album/song.
  24. I have a set of 9011's from my old car I was going to try but I don't think it will happen this weekend with the hurricane coming. They should have 30% more light output but I am concerned that the extra 10W may be an issue and I found these bulbs to make a lot of glare in the last car. The light was fantastic up until you got to a new street sign then it made the sign almost seem light it was lighted. It is a little distracting.
