  1. Interesting... I think this would be a huge step for M$ and Ford - it would be a big WOW factor. However, it just might cost too much money for a small thing because they would have two seperate Nav systems - or would they.... Thanks! Solas
  2. I am wondering...does the Album/Artist art display on the screen when playing from your MP3 player? If not, I wonder if SYNC can do that? Solas
  3. YUP Ohio has MANY edges. I see 4-5 different ones daily - but I am in SW Ohio. One dealer in Detroit had 80+ Edges in stock!!!! Wowzers Solas
  4. My view on this is Open driver door - all doors unlock. Open passenger door - only passenger door unlock. Open read doors - you are locked in (unless you pull lock plunger up). Solas
  5. I agree - no price for peace of mind. I understand where you come from - it took me a long time with lots of hard evidence to convince me too. I dont think you are arguing - however, I just like to babble. I am glad to see some people are "weird" about washing/waxing cars too. In the winter, I always wish I had installed a hose outlet in my garage. I have my whole regiment from claying to glazing but it slows in the winter (no I have not clayed the edge yet since there is no need to). I really enjoy working on cars - maybe its because it gets me away from the wife...hmmm...hope she no read this. I do my own oil changes, brakes (rotors and pads - I hate drums but thankfully they not on the edge), belts, tire rotations (not mounting), coolant etc. I am DREADING the spark plug change - ugggg. The front 3 will be easy, but not those back 3. Solas
  6. I have not - but I never thought of changing them - I think a nice blue would look sweet. You just added to my list of things to do. Gee Thanks Solas
  7. Hello, welcome to our edgy lives here. I have only been Ford/Mazda since 1998 - odd how that works. Lots of info here - I like to babble so beware. Solas
  8. Umm...its in the mail...yea...thats it. I wish I could say the same around our area. I see 3-4 daily - different ones. When I got my Mazda 3 - there were none. Unfortunately now I see 10 a day. Many people have come up to me/wife as well (mail carrier, fellow grocery goers etc) and ask about it. We love it and I am glad you still do too.
  9. WHAT - you dont drive it. Come on!!! Just kiddin Our Edge is my wifes but I try to drive as much as possible - especially since it is winter and 18" rims on a Mazda 3 dont work well with snow. Weee....crunch. Solas
  10. Yes, $25 for my peace of mind it is worth it. Oil refining and processing has come a long ways since the good ol days (I am NOT making a jab here). Most oil brands take longer to break down than before and offer more protection along the way. I change (will change) every 7500 miles per the warranty - this oil does not break down in that time (per my Mazda and other lab reports from various conditions). I also do stop n go as well as highway (which alot of the time IS stop n go). Lets do the math for the number of oil changes for 15000 miles. I assume your price has the oil filter. My oil filter is Mobil1 10.68 locally. At 3000 miles: 3000 25.99 6000 25.99 9000 25.99 12000 25.99 15000 25.99 Total $129.95 At 7500 Miles (In warranty and my particular brand is Amsoil - I would think the Ford would NOT break down at 7500 miles either) $27.78 for the oil 5.5 qts (bought in cases though) - does the edge have 5 or 5.5 qts - i forget - did only 1 oil change. Lets assume it is 5.5. $10.68 for filter. $0.00 for labor - will always do it myself - have a heated garage which helps $0.00 for disposal 7500 35.93 7500 35.93 Total $79.91. That is a large difference imo. NOTE: this is my opinion and only MY practices. If your peace of mind comes at 3000 miles that is your benefit. In the end, it is your car not mine. I will have even more savings when I am out of warranty - usually two years with the amount of miles we put on vehicles. I will switch to the longer life Amsoil oil 25K miles and do changes every 20K miles. I have seen the lab reports in person and know the drivers. It does not break down. For reference, i need this car to last 8 years (or 192K miles) to recoup the costs. Any extra protection I get the better. Just my $0.01 and you can toss that into a well if you need. Solas
  11. Garmin 350 - got a steal on it $250 shipped. Very happy with it - sometimes it has a 40ft inaccuracy around my house, but there are MANY 40+ft trees and quite a lot of hills. 3.5" Screen (4:3), loud and battery lasts about 4-5 hours on constant use (I dont dim the screen) NOTE: If you really dont want the bluetooth - get the 350 as compared to the 360. Many people that have both complain that the 360 has more issues. I personally cant confirm this but have read it on the Garmin forums. Love it. I did not want to mount it on the window because many thieves look for the suction cup mark and break into the car to look for it. So, the rubber mat in the middle of the dash...I took it off and placed the Garmin surface mount disk - cut a hole in the rubber mat and you really cant tell it is there for Nav. Unless of course my wife leaves it on the dash - but that is another story. I like the fact that I can change the voice to a brit or aussi, male or female. Its POI's saved my wife many times. She is in Marketing and had their saleforce in for training and she had to go EVERYWHERE and call places. The phone numbers were 95% accurate and 95% of the places she needed were in there. Solas
  12. I would not worry about water IN the door. Most doors have drains in them (have not look on the Edge - it a wee bit cold to do so now) to account for this exact situation. Good Luck Solas
  13. I have a problem with my local ford dealers - they are all a bunch of idiots. I have 4 dealers locally. 1 refuses to acknowledge the Limited Exists - never did trust them. 1 over filled my dads windstar (by a qt it seems) and caused engine damage. 1 did a tire rotation on my contour and left a lug nut off the rear passenger. These were all different dealers. I dont trust Ford Service Depts. You gotta use what Ford specs state - anything else they can deny you warranty work on the engine. I also agree that Oil is like religion and politics - it brings the worst out in all. EVEN if Amsoil said that you can go 25K (which that sounds like them), I would NEVER attempt that while in warranty because you go to Ford, not Amsoil if there is an issue. I still put Amsoil in - have not noticed anything odd. fordaholic - can you get more details by chance? I know the Police engines are suped up and heavy duty - nothing like ours. But details would be great. Solas
  14. sounds like mine - except colors. I think mine has the power lift gate. It IS a very nice ride - definately. Solas
  15. Make note he said blend - synthetic and conventional mix. As for me, I use 100% synthetic. In fact I use Amsoil EP (7500 miles). No, Ford can not deny you warranty work because you use full synthetic. However, they "could" if you move to 0w20 or 10w20. Note I said could. Now all this said - what is your expected life for the Edge? The benefit of synthetics is its protection and life. I will change oil every 7500 miles and want the extra piece of mind using synthetics. Once out of warranty I will move to long life Amsoil and change about every 20K miles with 3 or 4 filter changes in the middle. If you expect to get rid of your Edge in 5 years or less, stick with the Ford Oil (or similiar). If you are like me and expect it to last a minimum of 8 years, use synthetic. Note, even using the Ford oil will work but wont last the 20K miles - but I like the extra protection and life of the oil. I get good deals on Amsoil (~$5 per qt shipped) through family. Is it required - not really - the Ford Motor Oil is good stuff accoding to many. It all depends on how anal you are in your protection. See other posts here too Solas
  16. I hear ya - they still need removable seats :yup: - there are special ways, i know there has to be (:evil thoughts:) I have the mgmt system - eehh - it is ok. But i agree the rip ya to get it later. Solas
  17. This is my second Ford product (third if you count Mazda as Ford). I dont think Ford has the same relationship with Samsung as Verizon has. This would make it difficult for Ford to do what you want them to do. Samsung gets their phone revenue from Verizon (and other carriers) and not Ford - thus there is no need to make Ford happy and thus no relationship - for the most part. I understand you have high expectations, I know where you are coming from and you were let down. Dont give up on them, Ford needs you. I also agree that the imports have a leg up on domestics (speaking from people in USA). Further, it sounds like Samsung is releasing the update for Verizon (do other carriers have the phone?) - which is why you got no available updates from calling Samsung directly - this is ONLY a guess. You are entitled to your opinion - just make sure it is the same as mine (just kidding ) Post again when/if you get the update. Keep your fingers crossed. Solas
  18. I think (my opinion) you are a wee bit harsh on Ford. While they did "pass the buck" this is because Samsung does not meet the "minimum specs". Think of it like a video game for the pc. If the game requires a DirectX 10 Video card with 256MB of RAM (ie Ford M$ Sync), and your pc has only a DirectX 9 with 128MB of RAM (Samsun Phone), you call the video game company (Ford) and complain because it doesnt work well - they will say to update your PC (Phone). Since the phone does not meet the min specs (my guess since they need to develop a bt profile update), Ford can not be held responsible to offer a fix. Can they - most likely but that might be many $$$ in their arena. Just my opinion on the situation. Solas
  19. Gas mileage - I am not seeing it - at least on my vehicle (now 50/50 city/hgwy) - I am getting 20 MPG and this is with my wife driving (no cruise control, not braking/accelerating logically etc). When I drive it, I get about 23 Mpg (again 50/50). Now, the way I drive is RPM driving - I drive to keep it under 2000-2500 RPM unless I need to (ie on ramps). I also focus on the car in front of the car in front of me (does that make sense?) As for the engine reving - I believe this to be due to the 6 speed transmission. 6th gear is the "granny" gear, when you go up a hill and depress the gas pedal, the "granny" gear (used for MPG and not acceleration) is not enough to accelerate up the hill so it down shifts. This is not seen as much on 5 speed transmissions. As for the hard materials - I am happy. However, this is my first $30K+ vehicle so I am comparing to <$20K cars and it is good. But this is only my opinion. What I like is the hard material does not scuff with my wedding ring (rough surface), which it does on my Mazda. Wood would have been nice - but imo does not "go" with the car. A driver side dimming mirror would be nice, but again, I am used to this. Factory Nav POI - this is why i will always go aftermarket. Even though my Garmin uses NavTeq too - I did a few compares and mine has more POI than Ford. Plus another thing I dont like about factory Nav is you cant take it with you. Yes it looks more integrated, but I can use it in my Mazda. To add to the list: 1) Cruise Control Cancel. I know you can use the brake, but I hate doing this. My 3 has it, why not the Edge. 2) Mute Button - Still want it. I hate using VOL Down 3) Removable seats (I think I saw the seats bolted down) - this would be nice but only used so little for me. The Santa Fe I believe has it. 4) Increase the hitch size to 1 7/8" or 2" - while the 1.25" does work - it is not as common. 5) Cup holders in the rear seats (not in the arm rest). If you have 5 ppl, they have no cup holders in the back. Just my few thoughts. Solas
  20. That would be a surprise Honestly, I have had "good" luck with Verizon - however I am under corporate umbrellas (25% discount on personal plans) so I might have more pull in the Customer Service Area. Good luck and keep us updated. Soon enough you will upgrade you phone. Solas
  21. Hmm, I have not noticed this large blind spot - but I also try to avoid left turns. When merging on highway, I sit up to get a whole view in the mirror. I might have to take a look - next time I get to drive it of course since it is the wifes vehicle. Solas
  22. Since the Edge does not have any covers on the on the frame to cover the lower engine (I forget now what they are called), how dirty does the engine bay get from dirt kick up? I live in areas of Snow, Salt, Rain, Gravel, Dirt Roads and all other types of dirt and grime. So far (but I only have 1200 miles on it), it is staying clean. My 3 has one and the bay stays pretty clean - for the most part. My Contour before that on the other hand did not so much stay clean. However, I noticed that the bottom is fairly placed closed together (unlike my 3). Thoughts? Thanks Solas
  23. What color is your Edge? I did not get the Factory Nav - but I have aftermarket Nav - which I think is better anyway since it is not permanent and can take it to different vehicles (my Mazda 3 does not have Nav so I use it in there too). I can read maps too - but it is easier having someone tell which street to turn right on versus me looking at a map to tell myself which street to turn on. NOTE: I am lazy! Solas
  24. Congrats!!! What kind of Edge did you get - colors options etc? You left out the most important part :stats: Sound like you know your way to haggle. The way I always see it is if you are happy with the deal, you got a steal. I had the XPlan and an EXCELLENT dealer that gave me $3K for my $1K jalopy of a base cavalier (head gasket leak, bad struts, broken a/c, bad fan resistor (speeds 1 and 2 not work), chipped paint). I was VERY happy and thought I got a steal too. Did I really - well - not so much because I found out the dealer had kick backs from Ford to make up the trade in amount. Nonetheless, I will definitely go back to them in a heartbeat because the whole process was 100% painless. Post your edge specifics please (not to sound demanding or anything :shades: ) Solas
