  1. Still seems quite expensive to me for light bars and LED's and switches. But maybe that is me. Thanks for the research Solas
  2. Welcome to the dark side (boowwooooh hahaha) Lots of good people and topics here. Interesting you chose the Edge over the Arcadia as they really are not in the same class (I dont think anyway). Your wife will love it not matter what - mine does. Solas
  3. I would not have a problem doing that - but I would change the filter more than once in that interval. I have seen the lab reports from Amsoil that have 20K up 30K miles on it and it is still not broken down - per blackstone labs. Now, I would NOT do that while under warranty (but that is me) - it would be easy for ford to deny a claim - especially on the 0w20 aspect (I would think). If it was not for the warranty , I would be considering 15K to 20K mile changes with 3-4 filter changes in that time (I would have to research how long the filters last). That is what I planned on doing with my Mazda - 15K miles with 3 filter changes. That was until we got the Edge and now there are no miles being put on it. I have not used Amsoil oil filters - have heard pretty good things from them. I still use Mobil1 filters and have great experiences with them. Just my thoughts Solas
  4. I agree and I bbf2530 last post should be exercised. I think this has gotten a wee bit out of hand for all of us as this went off topic. I understand where you are coming from bbf2530 but is still off topic. Lets us all get along. Solas
  5. Agreed - while it stinks for that the Samsung does not work - there are many many others that does not work either. Also note that M$/Ford tested with Digital Audio Players to - that is a lot of work for USB and BT testing and fixing. Also note, that to use the minimal level of desired functionality, the BT must work at certain level to get the features to work. If this phone does not have that level, it can work (a firmware update can fix that). There is SUCH a vast amount of phones with all different BT versions/firmware and "codecs" that it would be nearly impossible code for all of them. Good Luck and let us know what Samsung/Your Carries says. Solas
  6. Sometimes - it can work for you and work against you. Remember, it is up to the officer to interpret vague laws - at first. As for the US - it is illegal here to have fronts tinted (my state of course). It is also illegal to NOT have a front plate in my state. It ALL depends on the police officer to be honest. I now live in the "poor" end of a "yuppy" city and I have to be careful. I have 1 warning for my NO front plate but nothing for my 20% tint on all windows in my 3 (compact car). But where I lived before for 5 years and literally 45 yards from the police station - they never cared (even when given speeding tickets). But I am a pasty white male 18-40 years of age that is polite - most of the time. Gotta weigh risk with style (style should always win  :shades: ) bbf2530 - i hear ya!!! Solas
  7. Dealing with LED's on my Saltwater and Freshwater fish tanks - it is not a huge concern (my salt tank has 9 LED's at a total of 12V @ 800mA). My LED's (white and blue) get soaked while on every now and then - drop them into water and they still work. Fish are alive still too. However, I agree that water+electronics=bad mojo. But LED's are fairly durable. At $270, you can do this mod MUCH cheaper - by a lot. I dont know how they get the lights in the cupholder, but everywhere else will be easy to deal with. You can change colors and it is a light bar - so it might look ugly - but the bars may not be easily visible. Change out the cabin lights for a much cheaper price to achieve the same affect. Cant change colors - but $30 (this is a number pulled from my hinney) in lights is better than $270 for 2 light bars and an LED. It also does not say how it is installed - is it linked to the 12V Plug or is it wired inside the dash? Just a few thoughts Solas
  8. 1) I am curious about factory % too However, a good tint place will be able match it without prior knowledge of the %. 2) I side with bbf2530 because where I live too, it is illegal to tint Fronts (but that doesnt mean I wont). All bbf2530 is stating to be aware of the risks involved - many people do not know it is illegal to tint front windows in most states. It would really stink if sonyguy19 was unaware and gets a ticket the next day. Further, the % allowed in states that allow front tinting is so small that you cant even tell it is tinted. bbf2530 may have come across a wee bit harsh - but what he does for a living does indeed have no bearing. Could we learn a lot about him if he does tell us - possibly, but that is his prerogative to not say. Solas
  9. Ahh - I am off base today. If Ford uses NavTeq (which I think so), on the Edge, yes you can suggest updates NavTeq Map Reporter Again, i was off today. There is nothing you or the dealer can do - for now - it is a map problem. This is not a normal occurrence either. As stated above, go to NavTeq Map Reporter to suggest an update. This is a risk you take - your GPS is only as good as your Maps. I agree - if it was wrong, there is nothing to do but be lost. I have a Garmin (NavTeq maps) and it has been 100% accurate regarding Street Names (not so much on position - usually 20-30ft off). Now this is not to say all the streets exist on the Garmin, but that that do have been correct. Solas
  10. This is a normal occurrence. Most GPS needs direct "line of sight" to the satellites - rooflines will block it. Depending on your geographical location, there are many variables that affect accuracy and availability. These include buildings (short and tall), trees, mountains, elevation etc - you get the point. As for accuracy, GPS (at this price point level) is not 100% accurate. Most at this price level will have up to 60ft inaccuracy - enough to make it look like you are at a different address. Now, IF it says you are off by 100ft all the time, you need to go to the dealer to get it fixed because the GPS unit is indeed faulty. 2 blocks is > 100ft so I would take it in. Is it always this inaccurate? These nav units use overlay logic using coordinates (Satellite information) to overlay onto the map - there will be errors - period - for this level of GPS. Now, that being said, the inaccuracy comes in part from Signal Strength (does the factory nav display strength?), rise/fall in altitude from what is real and what the GPS think, weather, programming efficiency and logic, etc. Updating the DVD Nav - yes you can update it (at least on other DVD navs) - but you will have to wait for an update on the maps - you will have to buy a new DVD. Usually they run from $100 to $200 for a new set from the dealer usually - somebody with Ford experience can chime in with more accurate information. See Previos Update DVD Thread Solas
  11. I would stick with a 5w20 - Not only is it better than 5w30 in most applications, but Ford says to use it. You will be causing earlier wear than needed. The reason I dont drop down to 0w20 is because there could be a small slight change of Ford denying warranty claims. I dont want to risk it. Yes it would be better - but I dont want a chance to be denied a warranty claim because they said to use 5w20 and I used 0w20. Small risk, but avoidable. Once my warranty is up - that is definitely an option - dropping to 0w20. However, I have heard some older engines (2004's imports with many miles) do not like 0w20 and caused leaks at the seals etc. Now that should be taken with grain of salt as I did not personally see/experience it. Solas
  12. I agree with you Grey - but I see no harm in adding extra protection (ie full synthetic vs Ford Semi Synthetic) as long as it meets Ford specs (which Amsoil does). I know Amsoil is good (per lab results) and will continue to use it for my use. I in no set of means meant Fords oil is bad (which I forget who actually makes Fords oil). I just think going above and beyond protection is better in my case (that and I am anal). When I get out of warranty in 2 years (as it seems), I will be moving oil changes to 15000 miles with oil filter changes in between. I just have to stay within the 7500 miles for Fords warranty. Solas
  13. I have tried screen protectors on many touch screen applications (no those above on ebay). They all have one thing in common that I dont think you can avoid - they reduce the sensitivity in the touch screen and when you press, a lot of times it does not register. Now this is not to say all do not work. If you can not find the correct size, you can always get one larger and cut it down to size - just a thought. Solas
  14. If you drove your first 1000 miles correctly, which is sounds like you did, you should be fine. But remember, an engine can take 3000, 6000 or even 12000 miles to fully 100% break in (depending on engine and car). I just passed 1000 miles myself and I am now on the highway. As akirby states, try to vary RPM. But I dont think there will be much variation in RPM with 10MPH delta. However, how long do you plan to keep the car? If this is a lease or you get new cars every 5 years, I would be much less worried. I on the other hand need to keep the vehicle for a minimum of 8 years so proper break in necessary - which means no long trips until I pass 3000 miles. But I am anal about things like that and when I spend $30K on a car, I expect it to last. Legally, after 1000 miles according to Ford you are good to go. Good Luck and much fun wishes Solas
  15. I am going to "third" the above statements. w20 flows much better than w30 and under startup is where the most wear occurs - you need the most lubrication (flow=lubrication). I use Amsoil Synthetic 5w20 (Class IV petrol stock) with Mobil1 filter. I use the EP 7500 Miles stuff. I have also heard good things about Royal Purple - but I have no personal experience in it. I used to use Mobil1 but they dropped their class from IV to III without dropping their price. Solas
  16. TomW - I am glad to hear that because soooo many people complain about the MPG - this is a non hybrid cuv that is quite heavy. My FWD went on the highway for the first time this morning so I will be able to get combined calculations soon. Solas
  17. 1) I personally dont see a need for this - but it would be nice i guess. Just my thoughts 2) I agree - very odd. But to their defense, they are raised differently 3) I like (and prefer) props over struts. Stuts dont last very long (at least the ones i have had) and need replacing. You can buy the ebay ones 4) I would like them on the fend - I hate those on the mirrors. Again, this is my opinion. Solas
  18. Congrats - I dont think you will miss the Factory Nav - some have not been impressed. Solas
  19. While they do say the hardware is cheap: this does NOT mean they are inferior quality. I have programmed with and used almost all the chips/processors in the article. Samsung is excellent flash ram company. Micron makes alot of ram for todays pc's Cambridge makes many aftermarkey BT modules (have not used them) Cirrus is good too. Just my $0.02 Solas
  20. Welcome to your new Edge - it is a great vehicle. Things to note about MPG. 1 - depending on your climate your climate you are on Winter Gas = less MPG off the bat 2 - If you are on winter gas, you climate is colder = longer warm up times = less MPG 3 - Engine is new and tight (should not be on highway yet - at least not traveling > 55MPH) and thus will have less MPG My FWD is 17.9 MPG 100% City for reference. The 26MPG CAN be had in the AWD - but is unlikely. Its rated MPG is 15/22 and I think your salesman was pushing a little too much for the sale. I am not saying it is impossible - but very unlikely. There is a good amount of info on this car here - and it will only grow. Solas
  21. 1) I understand why they did this - but I still agree that we should vent - my mazda does. However, my mazda does have vent holes in the shade 2) I dont see it. Granted we just past 1200 miles, but under all city driving - my MPG averaged 17.9 MPG overall. This is with few strait stretches and a top speed of 55 at the most. Computer MPG = 17.6 MPG. THings to consider a.) First you could be on winter gas - that immediately takes you MPG down. b.) If you are in cold climates, it takes longer to warm up and it runs rich - less MPG c.) The edge is heavy - but it feels solid. Heavy car and powerful engine = less MPG. What is you MPG? Are you doing the manual calculation or using the computer? What is your climate 3) I usually hate factory navigation so I did not get it. I got aftermarket - much better ususally. I got the dash mounted Garmin 350 and my wife LOVES it. It too is not up to date - but it is about 1 year behind. Otherwise it has many many many POI. Solas
  22. Interesting Rusty: the passengers in the back seat speak while I am driving and the person on the other end hears them fine. It definately is not the best quality, but is quite acceptable. When I am in the front passenger seat, the other people have no problem hearing me either. A good guess is it also has to do with the quality of the cell phone and bluetooth connection. Just a thought and I have zero proof to back that up. Solas
  23. I hate to kick a dead horse - but as I suspected, this is not a dead end program checker According to this, this program lives on past the only update available per Ford. Solas
  24. There are indeed two different "OEM" versions - at least. Lex proved that in another thread. The SYNC logic is different with NAV - thus it most likely is a different version (most likely because they could code to check for NAV and use operating logic A and then use logic B if NAV not exist in the same version). Further, since auto manufacturers do indeed do production updates through the year, most likely the latest 2008 MKX with NAV and THX have the update (or will very soon). Lex - I was just too lazy to look back through thread. Can you post some of the emails please? I just wish there was technical documentation on Sync - but that might release a trade secret before their year is up. I wonder if I could find anything on Sync for Fiat (named Blue&Me) - there might be more on that since it has been out longer Solas
  25. You know, I almost thought you were taking the high road - I guess not. Comments like this lowers ones respect for you - IMO. One can be wrong, one can be right as we have no idea the life cycle for SYNC or what M$ plans to do with it after Fords 1 year exclusive contract. Further, what is your source of information? Solas
