  1. Yes, check out that thread - may be more than what you want to read. In short: I have successfully downloaded it - eventually. Yes, you have to install the ActiveX control - in this case it is not a large issue - it is small and not too intrusive. Note: I am a security freak. Others have not had so much luck getting download failures etc. I am sorry that you have Vista. I will see what is downloaded on Vista to get this file - my box was XPSP2. Next, the update (unless you have the MKX with NAV and THX - there is a real update for them), is not required until you want to update as this is JUST a checker/logger. All this program is doing is getting your current version to keep SyncMyRide updated so that when new updates are available, it will know which ones are for you. Solas
  2. I forgot to mention that Windows Automotive is Open Source Platform Which means to those who can code in Windows CE .NET platform builder tool can create applications for it. Unless of course Ford requested M$ to lock down this SYNC version. Now, what OS is the NAV system? I ask because it would be sweet for those to code apps for it and show it on the screen. Solas
  3. I had some issues too downloading it - but i quickly fumbled though it. It does not like Firefox - at least my version. But that would make sense because FF, Mozilla Opera etc are competitors to IE>thus SyncMyRide = M$ = IE only compatible. I dont have macs as they stink for my uses - but I dont doubt it will be difficult for macs to work with it as it is M$ based. Long history lots of drama there. If i recall correctly, my first attempt with FF did not work. So i thought it was compatibility with FF and used IE6. This first attempt did not work. It worked as you described and had the progress bar but nothing happened for 7 minutes. So I closed IE6 and logged back in again and I had to install the ActiveX codec (top of browser below address bar - right click install activex etc). Then this made it all work. I will try to download again from home - this will be on IE7. Good Luck Solas
  4. Very true - however - I believe there ARE different versions. 1 for NAV and 1 without NAV because the commands are indeed different - thus there are two versions of SYNC running about on the streets. Now I know SycnMyRide is supposed to know your default version, but accidents and mistakes do happen (look at M$ Vista). While on connected systems this is true and I agree with that. However, this is a disconnected system - your vehicle is not hooked up to the internet (would that not be sweet - my edge is on the internet - hahahaah) or update program; even IF the checker was in the update - this is not what this checker is described to be used for. It is for SyncMyRide to determine which version you have and what available updates are needed - not for checking if your system is correct to install the update downloaded (two different checker programs). It has to check data to get it first - even if it just gets user preferences, it has to check them to log them before it sends them. If I had to guess, it does get preferences but also does what it is intended to. I would hope that the update files would check to make sure the update it would try to install is valid - ie if I tried to install the only available update, it should fail as I do not have OEM Nav, MKX or THX. However, this is not the intent of the checker per my knowledge. This checker is to keep your login to SyncMyRide up to date with the correct versions installed - at least as much as possible - to offer you the correct updates, any applications you want to buy/install (I would only ASSUME this will eventually be a feature) from the website. Now, I am not going to try this update as I have not seen white papers or other documents describing the update process and I really dont want to go to the dealer to fix any problems (this is still M$ btw). My dealers are all a bunch of morons. I took a look at the binaries - it is indeed getting logs - I will have to install it to see what is in the logs. I have downloaded it to my jump drive but still have not installed it. FYI I dont know if this was known or not - but Windows Automtive has been around for a while - get the right people together, and you can "hack" it or build modules for it (I am thinking different voices for now). The strongarm processor has been around for eons and is easily coded for. With 256MB of RAM however, I dont think there will be room for large additional/third party modules. Solas
  5. No nav here too - aftermarket is better anyway - at least for me. Now, if what you say is true - that would really stink for those with nav. When I have my phone (BT Audio and it does have MP3 on it), USB (iRiver Clix) and SAT - I dont have to tell it each time which device to use. I dont use SAT, even though I paid for it, so I dont use the SAT commands. For instance - I would expect to stay on USB (like for those without NAV). Now if I am on USB and want to do phone, I do have to say "Phone" then "Call SoNSo" etc. Hopefully there is a an update soon for you guys. See if there is anything on SyncMyRide about suggestions or what not. Nonetheless, this seems odd that there is SYNC for NAV and SYNC for NO NAV. Odd. Have fun learning. Solas
  6. Thanks!!! I didnt see it at 150K for normal schedule - but yes I am using the tow - so it looks like 30K for me. I had too look up the fleet schedule because for some reason MyFord wants me to choose a FUEL type - but there is no options to select it. That is when I planned anyways - that is what I do for my Mazda3 (which is driven really hard when driven). Thanks!! Solas
  7. I was looking at the maintenance schedule and noticed there is no schedule to replace the transmission fluid (ATF). I have to think why Ford does not suggest to replace it - at all? Solas
  8. This is exactly how it works for me too Press button - say "Play Artist U2" or "Play Track Zoorupa" or "Shuffle On" or "Repeat Off" etc. Once I set the device to USB in the beginning (car start), I never say it again - unless of course I switch sources that is. Good luck and let us know what any solutions are. Solas
  9. That looks sharp. I usually hate green - but this I likes. Solas
  10. Having been through Lemon process - first I would research heavily what the laws are in your locality. Most likely (again sure sure with your location), you will meet under the arbitration process. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING - trips to dealer, problems, what the dealer said, service reports, receipts for your work like oil changes, etc. Be nitty gritty. Having done this with GM and Ford (again, I am in the states - Ohio), we had a fully documented case (I documented EVERYTHING - time it took to get to dealer, time waiting - everything). The guys who came out for the arbitration was so flabbergasted, that the whole process took 2 hours to decide the vehicles were lemons. However, this does NOT include the time it took to get there - which is a long and arduous process. Be prepared to point everything out on the vehicle - use post its or other stickies to tie in with your documentation. Again, I wish you luck and lemon laws vary by locality. Go to your local library or some other reference to get information on process and laws regarding lemon laws. Call around - call other dealers if you have too. You don't need a lawyer - unless lemon laws are not recognized where you are by Ford. My parents had a Chrysler that was a Lemon and at that time, Ohio did not recognize Chrysler as a lemon law process (or something like that). They needed a lawyer to sue Chrysler and of course they documented everything and won - but not after soooo much headache. Good Luck BTW - I am having good luck with mine but I dont have many miles. Solas
  11. Is that because of the Ford engine and its design? Or in general for all engines? I have fellow m8's that have swapped out on Toyota, Honda and other Mazda engines (from I4 to V8) at ~1000 miles and all are doing well - some are well into upper 180,000's. My thought is to get all the metal shavings out due to fabrication and initial break in. I only read 5000 in the manual for the warranty- i will have to go back and reread it - if they will let me get away with 7500 miles - excellent. Don't worry, I don't veer from 0W20 or 5W20. Solas
  12. It really depends on the class the SYNC system is using - anyone have any idea? Do not confuse class with version - they are indeed different. I really hope they used Class 2 because Class 1 is way overkill. IME - about 20M away, it is not picked up - but my phones BT is stinky. Class 1 is 100M Class 2 is 10M Class 3 is 1M This is all TECHNICALLY speaking and even if it is Class 3, its actual range depends on many things. I would like to be able to disable BT Audio - dont know if you can - have not checked yet. Solas
  13. Welcome!!! We still love ours - but we have only 856 miles on it - tee hee. Show us some pics - cant ever have too few pics. Solas
  14. Welcome and you WILL enjoy your MKX. I like the out side better than the edge, but really cant get past the gauges. Nonetheless, I would drive one any day. Sorry, no ideas on the radio install - never done it. Just wanted to say hi. Good luck Solas
  15. Welcome to life on the Edge. My wife and I love ours too. All we did was pair up our phones and that is it. Pretty much plug n go. A few notes - ours does NOT like "Call Parents at Home" ; it gets cornfused at the Parents part - so we changed the phone book entry to Family and it works. Sound quality is not excellent - but is very good for hands free. Speak as normally as you can - but dont slurr your speech. The slower I talked, the more cornfused SYNC got. Definitely learn while parked - it can be a large distraction learning everything. All in all, i think M$ did a good job this time - in my experience. It knows T.a.T.u (using the punctuation) and it knows odd titles like Zooropa - and it pronounces them very closely. For reference: my phone is a non supported LG 8600 (but is almost identical to the supported LG 8500 - Chocolate). My MP3 player is the iRiver Clix Gen 2. Good luck and have fun playing. Solas
  16. May be an issue with iPods - dont know. Do a search here, I know there is a big thread on iPods and their issues - might be of help. My player is an iRiver Clix Gen 2. Every start the car, I have to tell it to select USB. Everytime there after (while car is on), all I say is PLAY Track PLAY Artist etc - no need to start from top. IF it is not an iPod issue, defiantly get it checked out by your dealer as that is NOT the way it is supposed to work. Good Luck Solas
  17. Looking good!!!!!!!!! I still dont like the MKX gauges - but that is only me - me be specials. Solas
  18. I need to use synthetics because it is my requirement that my vehicles last 8 years - with my average miles / year being 25,000-30,000. (that means 200,000 to 240,000 miles on the car at the end of life). My 1997 Ford Contour SE made it to the year 2005 with 225,000 miles on it. Granted it was needing some overhauling but it was a good car. My vehicles I run into the ground after many many miles and thus they will almost have no value at the end of their life. If I just did not get tired of the same car after 8 years, I could drive them forever. I switched both my Contour and Mazda at about 1000 miles to synthetic and have done me well thus far. My Mazda purrs like a kitten - but now with the Edge in the family, I dont drive the Mazda much which creates a new set of issues. I plan on changing oil every 5000 miles to keep in spec with the warranty (I may change oil filters sooner depending on their quality after testing). Then once out of warranty, I will change about 10,000 miles with Amsoil - the long mile stuff - which has been getting up to 15000-20000 miles without breaking down (according to results from Blackstone labs and the people who sent it in). Solas
  19. Well, I have not done an oil change yet - still under 1000 miles - but I am curious what oil and oil filters everyone uses. Me: Amsoil XLF/XLM - $4.30 / Qt based on case. Mobil1 Filter - locally found - have not bought yet. I used to use Mobil1 oil, but found out they went down from a ClassIV quality stock to ClassIII with no change in price. Amsoil is still ClassIV stock. Solas
  20. I dont know where I got the information, but I was either told or read that the make a production change to the clad wheel - my source could be entirely wrong - if so I apologize. Solas
  21. I really dislike dealers like that - sorry about your unhappy experience - not all dealers are bad - just not too many good. I dont know about your state - but "Document" fees are bogus in Ohio. On Fords XPLan, the max Doc Fee is $75. All my cars i "negotiated" the doc fees off. But in the end, what really matters is YOU are happy with your new life on the Edge. Even though your dealer was a wierdo. You got a good vehicle. Solas
  22. I second - VERY NICE. Spill with the details Solas
  23. Agreed on the TOW - get it if you can. I have sirius - but I still hate it. Sounds tinny. Give me HD now, that is different. Solas
  24. Welcome official to the new life on the edge. Post pics! I am curious about the closing - mine had ZERO issues or surprises. Solas
  25. Well said bbf! Is that really true that it is 25% now - on my 2005 Mazda 3 - the recommended pressure is 32 - at 29 it beeps at me. If it really is true at 25.5, that is sad. I still check every week at fill up - takes 3 minutes to prevent an accident or more costly repairs. Good Luck Solas
