  1. OOhhh, you got a fun gremlin - sounds like a faulty head unit. Mine has never done anything like that. Sounds like warranty work if you can repeat it semi consistently. Good luck Solas
  2. Well, the 20" rims do not help with MPG - heavy and large with a large rotating mass. MPG depends a lot on driving style. Check out the MPG thread here for more info. ME TOO!!! Except I kept my 3 - nothing can make me give it up. Now, you cant knock Ford for putting the Cruise control buttons on the left side. I feel your pain as I do the exact same thing, but there is no standard for button placement. Just have to get used to it. Ours recognizes almost everything - the only thing it did not recognize was "Call Parents". Always wanted to "Call Marions" (excellent local pizza parlor). So we change the phonebook entry to Family and all is well. I dont understand "I thought the lack of accessing the phone directory/list while in motion was also strange?" Just my $0.01 Solas
  3. Yup - just different mounting kit is needed. I have heard some rims do not balance well with TPMS - have never experienced it though. I dont see why they would not. Make sure they put all the ugly balance weights inside the rim (hidden, not on the outside of spokes etc). I hate when places put them so EVERYONE and their sister can see them - ick. Solas
  4. I too have a Mazda 3 (2005 SP23). The Edge DOES feel "a bit sluggish" because it is MUCH bigger and heavier so you really can not compare performance as they are two entirely different categories. That being said, I still compare the 3 to the Edge. Mainly our RPMs stay under 3500 and it has good pick up and go. We do not race and do not take corners at high speed (I leave that to my 3). I have red lined it a few times and it does go with enthusiasm. Cornering is not best - this is a SUV (sorry CUV). It is better than others in its class though - IMO. Braking is where I worry - I think SS brake lines and better pads and or rotors are in my future. My old Contour had this same problem and it was fixed by replacing those. Road noise - ours is MUCH MUCH quieter than my 3. What tires were on it? - this aspect matters a lot. We have the 18" with Michelins (forget model). We have a stretch of road that no matter what car, what tires, it sounds like you are in a jet taking off - literally. The edge does a good job subduing this noise. Now, there is a large MPG thread here as well, so check that out. Ours is getting 20MPG combined 60%Highway and 40%City with my wife driving (I get more because I drive to improve MPG - ~22MPG combined). Cheers Solas
  5. Excellent - I just dont want to spend the money to get one - I am too cheap and $70 is expensive. My Mazda3 service manual (includes everything) was free. So I cant cant justify in my wee mind to buy one. It is always a blessing to get those manuals. Have fun!!! Solas
  6. These are still halogen though - HID's are still MUCH better than halogen - IMO. Now the adaptive does make it better, BUT, adaptive HID would be the best - IMO. I second tiaquessa on all suggestion BUT signal mirrors - ick - I dont like them - again IMO. IF the Edge had HID and LED like my Mazda3 does, this would be a great $30k+ vehicle. Solas
  7. Go to SyncMyRide and register with your vin. This will get you all the manuals you need for your specific make up. It is different for those with Nav and those without. There is also a printed manual that came with the car regarding SYNC. Was your purchase used and you did not receive these? If so, that is where SyncMyRide will be very helpful for you. And yes, you plug it into the USB port and use the Media button to select USB. Solas
  8. It does not sound like anything exactly on the TSB's. But... check these out But since it is "intermittent", dealing with a dealer is difficult. If they cant find/experience the problem, they cant fix it. I would try to find the best way to reproduce the problem (which it sounds like you have). Then do it with the dealer service tech/manager in the Edge with you. This way, they can experience it first hand and you can see them experiencing it. Then proceed from there. Maybe others that have had this problem or more knowledge can be of more assistance. Solas
  9. Mine is a 2008 Edge, I have them. Definitely check like GMan suggested. If not, call your dealer. I am not asking as to WHY they are there, I know why - cheap way to cover up screws without using engineering time. I have taken many a door off in my days. My issues is they DONT fit - period. I even thought maybe the dear installed them in the wrong doors (not that would ever happen of course) and no dice. They are too long and too skinny for any door. Since I reference EVERYTHING to my Mazda 3, it does not have the mats. They designed screw covers to cover up the holes (all out of formed plastic) and made it seamless - at least more so than the Edge. Now, if the Edge had mats that would ACTUALLY fit, this solution would be better than the Mazda as you would not see any screw holes (and it would be much easier to take the mat out than pop a plastic screw cover off). I am still waiting for this too. I still also want the BAMR wiring diagram to see if I can bypass their stupid implementation of pinch protection. I want One touch close - not one touch close and hold to complete the process. Solas
  10. I do not know of a way to reset sync completely - outside of going to the dealer. However, I dont think it is needed in this situation as I understand it. There is a way to delete the device through the head-unit - not steering wheel. Check your SYNC manual - it tells you how. I had to delete my phone once because I deleted the SYNC BT profile on it and did not remember the pin code. It gave me the option of DELETE DEVICE or DELETE ALL. Was this vehicle used and do not have the SYNC manual? Solas
  11. Most likely SYNC has the BT profile still while your BB does not. Therefore, when SYNC setups the link btw the BB and SYNC, for security, your BB sees it as a new device and requires the 6 digit pin number generated by SYNC when you first set it up. IF you do not have that 6 digit pin number (I think it is 6 digits anyway), then delete your device in SYNC and re-set it up in SYNC. Solas
  12. I have not noticed this phenomena much - I guess since I drive a manual, it is not an issue for me. Plus my wife has not made any comments on it either - and we have some steep grades around here (10-20% per posted signs). Will rolling back harm the transmission? Just my addition Solas
  13. Not to be rude, but try searching the forums then state whether or not the suggestions you found did not work. Read here first to see if that works. Apparently the Online manual is correct and the delivered paper back is not for some vehicles (mine is the same as online in regard to this application). For reference, mine acts normal all the time and the PLG has no affect on the position. However, it does NOT work while in drive (not supposed to), and I wish it did. It has kept all the settings - NOTE: I do not use the keypad at all - only the key fob. Solas
  14. I might have to check that trick out - good idea - but one problem exists with my wife, she still turns the lights on manually - ugghh. Alot of this is nit picking on my part, but there are alot of good things on my Mazda 3 that does NOT exist on the Edge. I still love the Edge though. Solas
  15. Agreed - especially between Grey and me. My thoughts - still change at 1000 miles. His thought, leave in at least 3000 miles. I changed to Amsoil at 1000 miles. Solas
  16. A few more picks 1) The little mat in the door handles to cover the screws - they dont even fit properly - at least not on mine 2) No indicator to tell you headights are on. Around here there are many times when it is dusk/foggy/etc, and with Auto Lights, do I need to turn them on or are they already on? 3) A light to indicate that I have a cruise control program set already - all i have to do is resume I know these are picky but I have them on my Mazda 3 - why not a car that is 15K more? Solas
  17. I do not use one with our Lab/Great Dane (8mos@60lbs) and Shepard/Collie (7mos@35lbs) mixes. They just sit back there. However, they are well trained for being puppies still. The Lab/GD tried a few times to get over the seat - easy for him to do. So I sat back there and after a few times to correct him (I of course was not driving), now he just slobbers on the seat - eeewwww. But that is easy to clean up since I have leather. The Shepard/Collie just lays down and prays the Lab/GD does not sit on her. :yup: Good luck in your search - I do not know of one that fits perfectly - sorry. Solas
  18. Hmm, i dont seem to have that problem with my leather in my Mazda. I dont expect it either with the Edge - once the front is tinted. Temps in summer here can range 90F-100F with 100% humidity. While it may not be as bad here as it is in Phoenix - I still think it is hot. Of course, i would move to Alaska if I could. But I do use sun shields and tinted (UV) windows. Cheers Solas
  19. I dont understand why get seat covers for kids - leather is MUCH easier to clean up than cloth (to each their own I guess)? Granted I do not have kids, but many friends do and will not get anything but leather for the ease of cleaning up. They spill juice, wipe it down and you are down (unless it is sticky). Now for the floor, that is a different story. Now, dogs, I understand why (darn paws). This is why our dogs are limited to the back cargo area. Solas
  20. When you get time and weather permits, can you take a pic ~25 feet on level ground against a wall? Thank you if you can! The pics I have seen thus far do not give me hope as there is really no cut off point (per pics again) and there seems to be a lot of scatter, at least for me. Again, this is just what I see from pics. I get really mad when people do not have their lights aimed well and I will adjust mine up to blind them (my Mazda has manually adjustable lights from inside the cabin). I do not want to add to the hate, so I am try to find a way to retrofit projectors into the Ford. Solas
  21. I never did understand why auto manufacturers put these manumatics in. To me it is another thing to break and I hate them. The gate selectors are also a pain in my hinney to clean. If you want a manual, get a bloody manual. For me, NOT having this was a LARGEselling point. I drove the hills of Kentucky and the O/D off and L worked like a charm (not as good as a manual, but this isnt one). L is actually not just one gear. It will select the correct RPM to slow - at least it did on mine. Yes I still had to use the brakes to adjust L, but other than that no issues. I give Kudos to Ford for not going this route like every other daburn manufacturer. All in all, these are just opinions and Ford will NEVER please the entire population. Solas pleading case about lighting... FORD - please make projectors or HID for the EDGE
  22. I have passed 3K miles (around 3500 miles on it now or so) and the engine is fairly broken in. Highway (100%) with large hills (Kentucky) using cruise control when possible = 23.5MPG - 24.5MPG Computer and 23.0 MPG - 23.5 MPG Calculated City (100%) minor/little hills, max top speed 45MPH, no stretches longer than 2 miles 18.5 -19.5 MPG Computer and 17.0 - 17.5 MPG Calcualated Combined 60% Highway 40% City - 19-21 MPG Computer 18-20 Calculated. I have noticed with the BAMR open (full) the MPG goes down ~0.5 - 1.0 MPG. With the compressor (A/C and defrost) running, I noticed ~1.0 - 1.5MPG drop as well. With snow I have noticed a HUGH drop in MPG (front/read defrost on 100%, City only driving, minimal wheel slippage), MPG=17.5 per computer (not calculated yet, still ~17" of snow on ground). Our temps here have had highs from 65F and lows of 0F. Gotta love the midwest. I use Shell only gasoline. I use 100% synthetic 5w20 oil. These are ONLY my records and observations and should be viewed as such. Solas
  23. As far as I know, this is how it is intended. Yes it is different than any other auto I have driven, but not an issue. Solas
  24. Excellent!!! I think the LARGEST complaint IMO is the LACK of HID options because the light output is a little weaker than I am used to. Heck, my $19K Mazda 3 SP23 came with HID Standard from the Factory in Japan. Now our $33K Edge does not EVEN have it as an option, nor does the Lincoln. I am reluctant to add after market HID because of 1) Glare due to no projectors 2) Pulsed Lighting 3) Voiding Warranty. I too dislike the BAMR not closing all the way. IMO this is a cheap way of implementing Pinch Protection on a $30+ vehicle. I know it is a Ford, but where is the luxury or convenience? The Hyundai Santa Fe has it - same price category and of similar size. BAMR is worth every single penny it cost though - period - IMO. Look at dem pretty stars. Now that it is mentioned, the "Premium" audio is not all that premium - regarding the head unit. This unit NEEDS to be updated - even if more like GM's - still a simple unit but a MUCH better display. The speakers sound fine to me, wish it had the tweeters in the A pillar, but not a major miss because the sound stage is still pretty good for factory. The sub is a nice touch and does not add too much bass (many will disagree that it does not add enough). I too would like to VENT the BAMR with the shade closed - I use the vent for hot days - shade closed vent open to all some built up heat to escape while at work. But, since the shade material is not water proof (it seems, have not tested nor do I want to), leaving the shade closed while BAMR fully open will lead to disaster imo. "Removable headrests the center rear seat for to accommodate a child seat." Yes Yes Yes - dont have kids now so I cant verify the need - working on it. Many ppl do not want to sit in middle next to baby seat. "something on rear bumber to eliminate scratches" I think would be an EXCELLENT PIO. I have many dogs and it is already scratched, once, but still a scratch. "How often are you looking under the hood? " At LEAST once a week - but I still prefer a rod instead of struts. Cargo Mgmt System opinion - it is small and like I stated before nothing like my Mazda. Maybe Ford can raise the level of the rear floor to add storage trays - maybe a double decker system. Dont know if it will work or not. Just more thoughts and opinions that y'all dont wanna hear from me :shades: Solas
  25. A professional install will most likely avoid any issues that the carputer will be the cause of a problem. However, that being said, Ford can still deny warranty electrical work due to the fact that you have it in there. Also, what will you be using the carputer for - do you have Sync? Solas
