  1. Sounds to me like the clip that holds the arm on the door handle somehow came off. Usually caused by somebody trying to use a "slim jim" tool to unlock the car after keys were left inside or when trying to steal it. I would remove the inner door panel, I'm sure there's a video online and check the rod to see if it's connected. If not reconnect it. Not really a hard job, just be sure to have the proper tools like a clip fork. Just bought one at autozone for $4.
  2. Or the air in your tires.. We all know that goes bad after 12 months...
  3. Well being that you don't even know it's there due to the large splash shield (4 feet long) covering that whole section I'd bet a whole lot of tire people and home mechs have hit it at least once.
  4. ******UPDATE****** I ordered and received the EVAP Canister and Canister Vent Solenoid. This morning I went out, jacked up the drivers side to install the new parts. Under the drivers door there is a composite splash shield that has to be removed to expose the EVAP assembly shield. What I found interesting and concerning is the words "Do Not Jack" on the shield itself. This makes sense as you could damage the Solenoid/Canister which "may" have been what happened to begin with. What's concerning and really stupid in my opinion is that Ford designed said shield and went as far as to stamp on it in big letters only to hide it under an unmarked splash shield where it'd be real easy to mistakenly place a floor jack and not know. Removal/replacement took about 1 1/2 hours though now I could probably do the job in about 45 minutes. Easy peasy, code cleared and CEL went away not to mention it accepts fuel now. :happy feet:
  5. It's FWD. It would be nice if a vid was available or at least a description of what tools are needed to R&R the canister. Specifically if you need one of those line lock removal rings (like are used to unlock the vent tube) and what size is needed.
  6. Replaced the Filler Tube, took about 1 hour total, easy to do as long as you have some tools and a jack.
  7. Here's what I've got, Codes P01450 and P0451. Ran Evap test Fail. Found tank not venting. Ran Pinpoint test suspect canister vent valve faulty due to raw fuel, possible FTP sensor and canister damage. Was told by service advisor the vent for sure has to be replaced and most likely the canister which entails dropping the tank @$1400. So, while I've found the other parts the FTP remains a mystery so far and the one that A. requires the tank drop. B. May or may not be the problem. To ask a stupid question, I'd replace just the canister/vent assmbly first as that makes more sense but am not clear on it's location? I was under the impression it was located above the fuel tank. As for the danger, I'm well acquainted with the dangers as I used to deliver fuels to stations. Got a healthy respect for what fumes can do...
  8. Yeah, it looks easy except when you get to the idea that you have to drop the fuel tank first. Certainly something you don't want to do in your garage if you have any open flames (like a water heater or dryer). Then you have to be good with the idea that you will most likely will be wearing gasoline or at a minimum spilling some out of hoses etc. I would say a "smart" person would have a fire extinguisher handy and maybe another person to put you out if you should happen to ooops and ignite some fumes via spark or??
  9. I appreciated the escallation (for all the good it did ). Got a call from Ford, was told I'd be contacted by the Ford rep as soon as the diagnostic tests were finished. That was a couple of days ago. Here's an update on what was found. Turns out the vent valve on the fuel tank went bad and most likely took the canister with it. Total estimate to repair the emission system is $1400. I still assert that being you cannot pass emissions test with this defect it should be under emissions warranty.
  10. Yeah, kind of figured. The problem is figuring out where exactly the blockage is. Is it at the fuel tank, the canister or the lines in between. No matter where the blockage I am wondering/concerned about how it happened in such a short time period.
  11. Tricia, forgot to add my phone number and the system won't allow me to send another PM until late today.
  12. Nope, no longer under warranty @53k miles. I did speak with a dealer service dept. and they suggested the canister valve as the issue which I replaced. When I put the fill nozzle into the tank I get a pressure release, squeeze the handle and it puts in about 1.6 gallons then clicks off. I have to let it sit for 30 seconds or so and then it'll allow me to put in about .5 gallons. Rinse/repeat/rinse/repeat until I want to strangle it... In MY mind it's an emissions issue since I can't pass smog (emissions test) with a vapor issue but not according to Ford.
  13. My Edge Limited will not allow me to put in gas unless I feed it with a teaspoon. I've also got a check engine light and diagnostics come back as a emissions issue most likely related to fuel system. I replaced the vapor canister valve which I was told is usually the culprit but no joy. Then was told it could be the fill tube so I just replaced that and still no joy. Ok, I'm stumped! Any suggestions????
  14. What I did find interesting is that the neck is about $320 at Autozone and at several online parts houses like JC Whitney but $85 at the dealer and $41 at some other online sources. Ford parts dept. told me that $41 is just above their cost. I asked if they'd sell it to me for $60 as I would get it the next day but (sadly) they declined. So, $41 it is with a total cost of $57 after shipping.
  15. So here's an update: Went to the dealer yesterday and spoke with the service manager about what was going on and gave him the print outs of the codes that were showing up. After I told him what I'd replaced he was nice enough to grab his code reader and clear the codes saying "let's see if they return". He then went on to say "you most likely have to replace the filler neck which is a rather pricey part". When I told him how much I can get it for on the 'net and at the dealership he was shocked. He said "are you serious, last time I looked it was way more than that." He went on to say "Ford must have dropped the price, the only time they do that is if they're replacing a bunch of them under warranty". When the majority of warranty fixes are done they'll go way back up again." Wonderful, time to fix it and send it down the road I guess...
  16. This issue escalated from just a check engine light to being unable to fuel the vehicle using anything larger than a teaspoon. Took 20 minutes to pump in 3 gallons as the pump clicked off constantly even when I manually pumped as slow as it could. I found some information that the Canister Vent Valve fails frequently and can be the cause of this issue. Replaced the canister vent valve ($21) which is really easy to do but that did not fix the issue. Reset codes and it came back on again. Cleaned the filler tube and vent holes again, reset the codes and the light is back. Guess I'll have to give in and buy the filler neck ($47 online instead of the $85 + tax the dealers want) and do the 2 hours to put it in. Man I miss the $5 gas cap replacement and the 2 minutes it takes to put on. Ahhh, progress...
  17. Wendy and others, having been through the Ford Lemon system before don't expect them to do anything fast, if at all. I'd highly suggest documenting EVERYTHING they tell you as it "may" change in their memory later on (not to your benefit of course). The minute they hit the lemon law requirements in your state FILE as it will take considerable time/effort to get to a resolution. My particular case had 3 different visits from Ford "engineers" all who said to me either it was fixed or they couldn't figure it out. Needless to say that's not what they told Ford. It's my opinion Ford could care less about customer service or customer satisfaction once you plunk your money down and if you're unlucky enough to have a reoccurring issue it turns into a game of "how to make the customer give up and go away or think it's their fault". Good luck to you all, I hope as a 2013 Edge owner I'm not destined to be in your shoes...
  18. For the record I purchased the vehicle used and was over mileage at 43k so the extended warranty wasn't an option, I tried. I was hoping to avoid disconnecting the battery more than once to clear a code and was trying to see if there were any other fixes available. I watched that video and did what they said yet the code didn't clear. Talked to the dealer and was told that Ford (unlike other cars I've had) does not reset codes easy. It has to work through a specific system order and if you shut down the motor anywhere in between the specific code you want cleared it starts all over from the beginning. All the others have cleared after about the third start. I was nice to the dealer, spoke calmly and logically, even asked politely as all get out if they could possibly clear the code for me to which I was told "bring it in for a service visit (aka $$$). I did leave frustrated and muttering as I drove out of the driveway. Also, just for the record I like this car with the exception of the rocking chair drivers seat...
  19. First off, I'm aware of what the manual says, just because it says it doesn't make it right. Secondly, I'd beg to differ with your assessment that the capless filler isn't prone to problems given the amount of information/complaints I found with one simple search. Try it and see... The part that's failing is part of the vapor recovery which, last time I checked is REQUIRED to pass emissions test. I've got another car that failed that part and all it took was a Walmart trip to buy a new cap for a total of about $4.00. Can you do this with this capless system? NOPE. One would think they'd at least warranty this item for X amount of years with unlimited mileage. Mine is having issues at 2 years old. As for it working properly because it "told me something was wrong" all I can say is "uh huh, sure" Any repair suggestions are welcome at this point...
  20. I have a 2013 Edge Limited and the check engine light came on. Ran a diagnostic and it showed as a problem with the capless system/vapor control. I searched information on how to fix the problem and did a full cleaning of the receptacle. After four days of driving the light still has not gone out so I went to the dealer and asked about the system and warranty. Given that I've got 50k miles on this Edge I was told that there is no warranty coverage even though it IS part of the emission control system. Normally I'd agree if it was a normal gas cap but it's not as simple as that. Ford designed this system that it seems in prone to failure without an easy fix and given that it IS part of emission control it should be covered. Any suggestions?
  21. Mine is moving as well, very disconcerting!
  22. We had a 2012 Traverse (new) that ended up as a GM buyback. It seems their A/C systems are having issues and here in AZ that's critical. The A/C had multiple leaks and even after they thought they'd fixed them it would still cycle off and on frequently while driving, blowing hot air and air box mildewish stink. Glad it's gone!
  23. Thank you sir, appreciate the thoughts! I'd done quite a bit of research on the Edge and besides the Sync issues I've not found much that people complain about or have serious problems with long term. I've never been afraid of rentals (my third rental purchase) as most companies service their fleet regularly unlike a private owner. I do wish Ford would allow buyers of rental vehicles that are slightly over the 36000 mile warranty to purchase factory warranty <sigh>.
