  1. I have to agree with Larry on this. Believe it or not, the windshield is an integral component in the structural integrity of a vehicle. Aside from that, if not sealed correctly, they can leak without indication and/or detection which can cause issues anywhere from mold to serious corrosion. Usually if your insurance won't cover it automotive glass places will work with you to give you a decent price on a new installed piece (they'll just gouge some insurance company to make up the money lol )
  2. Thanks Wizard! I was concerned the heat from the resistors would play havoc with the adhesive in such tape. I have access to high quality automotive tapes so I'll get some good double sided tape and go for it. Once I get under the hood with the resistors between the tape and some tie wraps on the wires I'm sure I'll mount those mofos up so they aren't a problem!
  3. Doh - thanks for clearing that up! Now I need to decide if I want switchbacks or not. I assume the "set" of resistors is 4 as the video shows positive and negative connections for each lamp. Where did you mount the resistors to and what did you use to mount them. Historically, I've found it to be quite the biatch to drill into hardened steel on auto's - especially when using small bits for small screws.
  4. Thanks, So I'd choose the 6K White + amber option and then 1 of 3 brightness. How bright are the XP80's? I have 6K HID's and don't want to get flashed or pulled over so I'm thinking the HP11 option might be the way to go ......
  5. I'm looking to replace the stock 3157 Amber front turn signal bulbs with amber LED's. I'm In Canada (eh lol) so my '13 SEL used the headlights for DRL's so the turn signals aren't used for that purpose. What is the best LED I buy for this application? Through searching I've found some require a resistor to be added and would like to avoid that if at all possible. Thanks in advance
  6. Easy now - I said TIPS not ..... Seriously - I'm looking to replace the crappy stainless steel exhaust tips on my 13 SEL with some nice genuine chrome pieces. I searched but haven't seen too much info on after markets exhaust tips. I'm looking for pieces that would require my beat up stainless stock tips to be cut off and new tips welded on. Not interested in the "screw tight" stuff as, although there is nothing wrong with them, they are not what I'm looking for. All suggestions welcome as long as it doesn't involve cutting or re-moulding my stock rear bumper. Thanks in advance
  7. One of the least harsh adhesive removal products I've found effect is .... WD40. It doesn't harm clear coated surfaces while it is VERY effective at removing adhesive from paint, rims etc. that have been clear coated.
  8. Another "old school" trick is to hold the fob against your chin while activating it as that helps the range. That said, that's only a band-aid for what the real problem is.
  9. Looking VERY nice !!! Can't wait to get mine and get them installed ..... mailman needs to hurry the hell up with my package lol
  10. Looking SHARP King . If you don't mind me asking, where did you get them and how hard were they to install? Also, I have keyless start with the proximity fob that unlocks the drivers door when I touch the door handle. Will this replacement handle negatively impact that option?
  11. Welcome Loving my '13 SEL as well. Lots of fun to be had here as well.
  12. Thanks - LED's on order for all interior bulbs .. forgot to mention that. HID kit is by Lumens and temp is 6000K. Installer said if I don't like 6K they will swap them out for 5K's no charge but local law enforcement aren't hasling people with 6K aftermarkets but they're all over 5K aftermarkets like fat kids on a M&M lol (aftermarket HID's aren't legal where I live). I also needed a DRL module to deal with the DRL requirements where I live. Still look WAY better than stock when I saw the "after" image on the install bay door. Better pattern and MUCH brighter.
  13. If you feel comfy with doing it yourself go for it !!! In my case, the reality is that for what my local shop charges in labor per hour I can earn more than that working that hour so I'll pay them to do it. That said, they do VERY good work and warranty what they do so I feel 100% comfy with them doing the work for me. Please note that I had the "base" system in my Edge and not the "Sony" upgrade as I knew I'd end up ripping it out starting at the drivers back. Drove home with all windows down and the pano roof full open and had Clapton screaming at much less than 1/2 volume so I'm a happy camper
  14. They installed Kaption Audio 5x7's - model SRX-572. Kaption is a Canadian company that makes high quality automotive aftermarket speakers. They source from Canadian suppliers so no matter how ridiculous the FX rate is they can provide outstanding quality drivers at reasonable prices. As I mentioned, I used them in my FX4 and was very happy with them and am now VERY happy with them in my Edge. http://www.ncix.com/detail/kaption-5in-x-7in-srx-d6-84522.htm Based on what I'm hearing now, I have no need for aftermarket amp's or subs. They even make Sirius sound good - what does THAT tell you lol
  15. I checked these speakers when looking for 2 pair to replace my stock units. It's a depth issue - they MAY fit the rear doors but they are too deep to put in the front doors unless you are willing to use offsets and have aftermarket grills installed on the front doors.
  16. Sorry - need to make sure I understand this. The SALESMAN said not use use premium octane fuel in a turbo motor ... is that correct? Does he know anything about KR and detonation ? In my experience, if premium fuel is fowling plugs then regular octane fuel will cause the motor to explode lol.
  17. So ... just picked the Edge up from my local car audio shop. As usual, they did amazing work for a very reasonable price. A couple of points worth noting: fishx65 - Thank you for recommending I go HID. Haven't seen them in the dark yet but the light they threw at the install bay door vs stock halogens was VERY impressive. Can't wait to see the difference they make in the dark. good2Bking - they replaced all 4 door speakers with 2 pair of aftermarket 2 ways speakers that were about C$150 a pair. These are the same speakers I used in my F150 and I was pleased with them in that application. I have three words for you in regard to getting rid of the POS factory speakers: DO. IT. NOW. What a HUGE difference in sound. I can actually hear bass, mid's and high's and clear vocals. Best $300 I've ever spent. Got my Bright Lights puddle lights in the mail today complete with their complimentary license plate LED bulbs. Ordered the darkened LED tails from them on the weekend - can't wait until they get there. FWIW, I've VERY impressed by the Bright Lights puddle lights. GREAT service and very nice packaging and presentation of the product. The Weathertech's should be here tomorrow. Hopefully this will do it for mod's for me for a while ....... I need some time to earn the mod money I've already spent LOL ......
  18. Welcome! If you're anything like me, once you start reading threads and seeing some of the great mods / upgrades out there for the Edge the cargo liner will only be the start lol Lots of good info and good folks here!
  19. Welcome to the community from a fellow forum "newbie" I also have a 2013 SEL AWD only mine is white. Haven't even started discovering all the features yet but very much enjoying my ownership experience to date - hope you're doing the same !!!
  20. Thanks everyone! So it looks like I may be out of luck unless the hub opening on the rims was larger than his hub. Totally forgot about that aspect of it.
  21. Welcome to the forums!!! Great to hear you've had a good experience so far with your Edge. I haven't been around here long but I've learned a ton by reading, searching, and if all else fails asking questions lol. Great place to lean about the Edge
  22. I have a 2013 AWD SEL with the 20" "Chrome" rims and 245/50/R20 tires. I have a chance to buy some steelies and snows from a friend who just sold his 2007 SEL FWD. Tires are 245/65/R17 so my speedo would be just a little slow - less than 1%. The question I have - and have searched for an answer for without any luck is - would rims that fit the '07 SEL FWD fit on my Edge in regard to bolt pattern and offset? I know dimensionally they'd be fit but I'm not sure about offset and bolt pattern. The Blizzack's have 1 season left on them and he just painted the steelies after using them last winter. I can grab them for $300 all in which is a pretty good deal with the pricing I have deal with for new rims and tires here in Canada. Only thing I'd need to do is add TPMS - if I need them (not sure yet) and set. So - am I good to go with these snows and steeliers from the 2007 or am I back in the market for winter traction? Thanks in advance
  23. The last car I owned that was black was an 87 Buick Regal GN. I spent HOURS hitting it with zaino and a buffer and the California car duster. As much as I know silver or grey would be easier to maintain I seem to be drawn to either black or white vehicles ...... especially if chrome is involved
  24. VERY nice Edge King !!! As much as I love the Edge in black I don't have the time to give it to ensure it looks amazing all the time. White hides dirt better so I went with it LOL. I had the exact experience you did - didn't realize the wheels were chrome CLAD until I hit these forums. I kind of felt like a poser once I found out but I quickly found out that no seems to realize they are plastic so I'm semi at peace with it LOL. One of the criteria I had when looking for an Edge is that it had to have the BAMR. Not only do I love the light it brings in when closed, I really like how low profile it appears from the outside when open. Aside from the plastic wheels I'm not disappointed with the Edge in any way - except the pathetic sound system LOL. I can't wait until this Tuesday when those horrific door speakers get ripped out and replaced with high quality aftermarket pieces. If I can get some clear sound and some decent highs out of the system with just speakers I may stop there. If not it'll be onto the audio processor and external amp. New mod to my list that I just ordered are the shadow black LED tails from Drive Bright. Apparently they just started selling them and soon there will be a way set shooting toward me - can't wait !!!
  25. Welcome!!! I'm new here myself but I between the search function and the great members here I've learned a ton about the Edge so far and look forward to continuing to do so. This is a great community. Beautiful bird and nice Edge - enjoy driving both
