  1. mjonis: My 3 finalists are with pros/cons are listed below. Thank you, mjonis, for your work on arriving at the three finalists! I did similar work in arriving at them, plus the Kia Sorento..... but I didn't go as far as to put it down on paper to help others with their decisions. GOOD JOB! I've almost certainly--or just about-- arrived at the Edge as the winner..... and for two other reasons you didn't have. One is that this forum has lots to offer an Edge owner--lots of help! And the other is that Ford didn't take the bail out! My one purchase isn't much reward for a giant corporation, but it's about all I can do. I didn't understand why you had MyFordTouch being replaced by Sync3 as a bad thing..... since that's one of my reasons for waiting for the 2016 Edge? Sync 3 is supposed to be the "Cat's Meow", and the "Be-all and end-all!" And as far as reliability..... the 2016 will have all those other complaints and deficiencies fixed. (he said, hopefully.) Thanks, again, for all your work, and for sharing. Jack
  2. Waldo, cds71 & akirby--You guys done good! I'm convinced snow tires make a huge difference! Since I'm an old codger, I forget how easy it is to google everything to find answers to absolutely any question. After viewing the ice video, I can only imagine there are scores of like videos, etc., that would cover the question of what came first: ice and snow..... or snow tires? Here in the Banana Belt of South Dakota, we actually have mild Winters, and do get along fine with all-season tires..... but it is evident we'd do better in the little snow we do get with snow tires...... which would especially help in STOPPING! Thanks a bunch for your replies! Jack
  3. mjonis--I don't have the qualifications to answer your question about fog lights. However, I am planning on ordering a 2016 Edge, and I didn't notice them on the lists of what is on the 2016..... but you can check for yourself on this 2016 Edge Order Guide: (If it copies okay?) Let's try this: http://www.fleet.for...900cad98264f526
  4. Naturally, AWD won't allow your car to stop faster..... but will snow tires allow you to stop that much better than good tread on an all-season? I don't know the answer. If you start sliding, no tread is about as good as snow tires. (He said..... as if he knew what he was talking about.)
  5. Just a thought from a guy in South Dakota...... but if your Edge is AWD, do you really need to worry about having snow tires? Granted, our Winters may not be as harsh as some Canadian areas, but unless we are doing lots of off-roading, we seem to get my fine with AWD and all-season tires. In fact, many get by fine most of the time with just FWD. Naturally, I may not know of what I speak (And I fully expect you to tell me.)..... but just something to kick around.
  6. Hey, all you guys, thank you very much for all your advice on the 2016 Edge engine selection. It appears you're pretty solid for the 3.5..... unless gas mileage might trump that. I'm gonna be moving from a 2001 Tahoe..... so you can see that gas mileage hasn't been a priority for the last 15-years. In fact, the main reason that the price of oil has been dropping is that they've heard I'm going to be getting rid of that Tahoe. I believe one of the reasons I've pretty much decided on the Edge, instead of the Murano, is this forum. As a collective group, you all provide so much help to guys like me, and to each other, that it's just plain fun! I've learned a ton of stuff! And just so you won't get big heads, you'd be a whole lot better if you didn't used so many abbreviations, and initials. Who the heck has a clue about PIDs, PCMs, BTs, GRILL_A_CMDs, and endless others throughout the forum. Post-intercooler air temp.? Give me a break! As I said before, Thanks a BUNCH! Jack
  7. To: POWERSTROKE, boilerhawk14, WWWPerfA_ZNOW and Chipster, I still vividly remember my first new car, a 1965 Oldsmobile 442. I loved that car, and the whiplash I got when I floored it..... and loved going through all four gears. But now I'm 76 years old, and don't have the reflexes to put the pedal to the metal. (Except to pass a little old lady.) Now I just need a good, sensible engine..... that might give better fuel mileage. So I'd just about decided to go with the 2.0 Ecoburst when I order my 2016 AWD Titanium. But you guys have kinda confused me with your boosting the 3.5. Just from reading the forum makes me tend to value your judgements. So, would you guys recommend the 3.5 over the 2.0 for a large old man to drive to coffee with the guys, with occasional trips to Iowa to see the grandkids.... and a car to maybe last the rest of my life? (Man, does that ever put the pressure on you!)
  8. Jacksprat - why wait for a 2016? 2015s are available now unless you were waiting on a 2016 only feature. I don't think there are any glaring differences between the 2 - really comes down to personal preference. akirby: Thanks for the comeback. I've enjoyed reading your comments in the forum. I've already waited this long because of my health, and because the Edge had some problems I hoped would be fixed in the 2016's. Plus, although I'm an idiot when it comes to computers, I decided I had just as well wait for the Sync 3. As much as Ford has tried to discourage me, I still seem to lean toward the Edge. What the heck..... maybe I just like the name? Any you know another factor..... I'm just so impressed how you all take care of each other in this forum! For an older guy to have some folks to kind of lean on if there's trouble, might help. Thanks!
  9. I'm not sure just to whom I'm responding..... or if I'm even doing this correctly. But, I wanted to write my story and see who might respond with a little help. I'm 76-years-old and just ready to retire my 2001 Chevy Tahoe. It's still in immaculate shape.... but I need to downsize to something a little easier for myself and my wife to get into, and out of. And maybe something that will last the rest of our lives 'cause I really hate shopping for a new vehicle. (I'm a lousy haggler!) After much studying, I decided the Edge was the perfect crossover for us..... until I found the Nissan Murano. I still thought the Edge was what I wanted..... mainly, I guess, because I still consider it an American car..... though it's built in Canada (which I still consider part of our family), and is full of foreign-made parts. The big plus, for my money, is that Ford didn't take the bail-out! But other than that, I don't see that the Edge has much to make it better than the Murano. If any of you know of any big advantage, please chime in. Anyway, because of some health issues, and Ford's complete break-down of their manufacturing process, my timeline for buying a car got pushed into the 2016's. My preference is still the Edge..... but a close second is the Murano. Their prices are close to the same..... which is about what I paid for the Tahoe in 2001. It's kind of difficult to buy a new Edge when they aren't even on the market yet. Nissan doesn't seem to be having any trouble. The seemingly ineptitude of Ford simply boggles my mind! Anyway, I'll probably be asking for further help as this process continues to be delayed. I'm so tickled that I just happened to stumble on the Ford Edge Forum! Thanks for any comments from you great forum participants!
  10. I'm already learning there are many things I've never heard of..... and a cover for the dash is another one.
  11. Yours is an old question, but in case you are still checking for an answer..... I didn't find this in anything official from Ford, but found it in a magazine article. They said the ground clearance is 8-inches. Take that for what it's worth.
  12. I found this on another thread and copied/pasted it for future reference when I finally buy a new Edge. I don't remember where the thread is, but here it is, quoted from WingNut..... who seems pretty knowledgeable: WINGNUT: Mine arrived yesterday also. I bought the roll-up version linked below. I also see about an inch at the top that is not covered. The width is correct. I still think they will come out with a newer model with a different part # in the future so it is an exact fit. That 1 inch won't make much of a difference so I am happy. I have the same exact roll-up shade for my Mustang and it fits exact from top to bottom and left to right. I recommend this shade or the fold-up style. Both are from Intro-Tech and I've owned both styles through the years. My roll-up in my Mustang is 5 years old and still looks new. http://www.autoanyth...0A4065A0A0.aspx
