  1. Easy if you have a 25 yr neighbor with 8” long fingers with an extra knuckle in each one.

Seriously getting the bulbs in the housing was harder than mounting the ballast.

You will find several good places to mount the ballast then realize the wiring harness is too short.

These are in an 08 MKX with projectors.

  2. Hi everyone!

Someone kindly hit my driver side mirror and popped it out, and I've managed to tape it to the chassis and I can at least use the mirror. The puddle lamp works, you can hear the motor when I try to move the mirror, but the dealer says I need the entire assembly. It seems that the only "damage" is that the mirror is popped out and I'm unable to pop it back in myself (I'm afraid I'll break the mirror). Has anyone had this happen and is this something that I really do need the whole assembly (it's $500 installed!) or is it something that I could take to my corner body shop and have them do it for me? If I need the whole thing, that's fine. I just don't want to be ripped off because I don't know any better.

    Greetings and welcome

Follow this link, pg 5 and start reading about post #86. (sorry about the missing pictures)

It gives a good description of getting the glass off and back on.

It is easy but be careful, there have been come mirrors broken.

  3. It comes down to “who you going to believe?”

Someone with a Masters Degree or somebody who found a stick (dip) lying on the ground and stuck it in your motor.

I’m wondering if the manufacturing tolerance is as close on a DIP stick as the oil pan.

This leads to the next question.

Is there anyone out there reading this and thinking “ hhmm I didn’t read the manual, have used 5 quarts in every car I’ve owned and 5 quarts shows FULL in my new Edge.”

  4. Greetings and welcome

Legally…No there is nothing you can do. Ford says 3500 so that’s what you’re stuck with.

    Is 3600 loaded or unloaded?

Gas weighs about 7 lbs a gallon.

Skies, life jackets, fishing poles, diving gear, ice chest, etc weigh A LOT!

I’m thinking your lightly loaded 24 footer will weigh as much or more than your Edge and it is not going to like it or survive very long.

You didn’t say if you have an all wheel drive.

Front wheel drive wouldn’t be my choice for getting any boat out of the water.

Sorry for all the negative comments

There are a few things you can do to help your Edge survive towing your boat.

Does the towing package include a transmission cooler?

Even if it does you’ll want a bigger one.

Change the transmission fluid before every boating season.

Keep the over drive turned off.

    Good luck

  5. What would likely happen in that scenario is my vehicle would sit idling for hours before some tech would look at it...

But I do have this on video including a view of the unobstructed sensor location. I offered to show it to the service department but they told me at that time that they themselves have to reproduce the problem. Since then I have spoken to the service manager who tells me that they believe there's a problem but that Ford hasn't provided them with any information as to how they might fix it! Great technology isn't it - Ford can provide the feature but can't fix it when it doesn't work. Or maybe my dealer is just useless - I have accumulated a fair bit of evidence that may be the case. Next closest Lincoln dealer is a 5 hour round trip.

Again I encourage you work with your service dept.

Tell them you’ll bring it in with it not working and to be ready to leave it running until a tech can work on it.

“If it’s not broken, we're very sorry but we can’t fix it.”

  6. Wish I had this feature on my Sport, I use CC all the time. As far as radar detectors are concerned, the only thing they're good for is to remind you to pull over and collect your speeding ticket. most departments use instant on these days or laser which is fired through a gun w a scope on it so that the car timed is the car stopped.100% accuracy.

Wish we had it too, we do a lot of interstate driving.

Hate to disagree with you about detectors but.

In N Texas cities the police either don’t have instant on or don’t use it.

The have enough customers that they don’t need it.

They leave it on ALL the time, even when they have some one stopped.

    Out on the interstates:

Texas does have instant on and they use it a little, most of the time they also leave it on.

They also have plenty of customers.

When they do use the instant on, I see it when they shoot the car a mile (or more) ahead of me and for some reason don’t stop them???

Just a couple of weeks ago instant on was used on me but I was doing 70 in a 70 because I knew he was in the neighborhood.

New Mexico usually pass me when I’m doing 80 in a 70, they wave bye bye.

    Colorado leave theirs on.

    Utah same.

Nevada, not sure didn't get hit by any last month???

Evidently laser is only as good as the steady hand using it.

I do have good reflexes or maybe he’s looking for that rice burner doing 80 in a 60???

Usually the laser is under a bridge and the rest of his pack is over the hill waiting for the radio call.

Here again they have plenty of customers???

  7. Well they got it mostly right. I love the feature on my MKX but I've had the "sensor blocked" error falsely activating probably well over 100 times since I've bought the vehicle last October. When that happens I have to pull over and restart the car or I switch to normal cruise control. Of course I also lose collision avoidance when this happens so there's also a safety element here that you might think might concern Ford.

But there doesn't seem to be any solution to it - the dealer likes to take my vehicle for 1/2 test drives but of course "can't reproduce the problem". Recently, for the first time, I was able to complete a 6 hour trip I make often without losing the adaptive cruise even once. Usually it happens every 1 -1.5 hours of driving. I need to do something to get Ford's attention because my dealer sure doesn't seem to have a clue.

The next time it happens don’t turn it off and don’t switch to normal cruise.

Take it to the closest Ford dealer; MAKE sure they DO NOT turn it OFF!

You probably want to make it a dedicated day/trip.

I sympathize with the ford tech.

It doesn’t make the customer happy but “If it’s not broke we can’t fix it.”

    Good luck

  8. I just wanted to say thanks a bunch for the info.

Background: Moon roof got stuck. We are usually able to close it all the way with a little help via our hands to push it shut. This time was a no go. it literally got stuck in the open position. Worried about rain or other things, i decided to take it to the dealership. They would not cover the cost of repair, (I have had the car since october last year) my top of the line extended warranty wouldn't cover it because there were "No parts needed to be replaced". This struck me as weird. I waited in the lobby for about 3 hours in the morning before heading to work. At about 2:45 minutes, i went up to the lady at the service desk and asked "Is it going to be ready soon because I need to go to work". (They waived the diagnosis fee of $98) and said they were able to get the window closed, however, could not fix it. They said they had to "Reinitalize it". That would require disassembling the roof or removing the fabric from the top and "doing it". I was pissed that 1) they were not honoring a sale less than a year old 2) the extended warranty they sold me did not cover it & I was going to be the one coming out of pocket.

I was pissed and told a buddy at work about it. He found this forum (which i happen to be a member of!) and tried out your suggestion.

    WOW.

It worked and I can't thank you enough.

The audacity of the dealership to want to charge me 240 dollars for something my friend who with the help of your suggestion was able to fix my issue in under 5 minutes. I will be writing a formal letter to the dealership and possibly to consumer relations at Ford to expose the bullshit this dealer is passing along as "customer service".

    Again, thank you so much!

YEP it’s a shame some dealerships can’t find their a$$ with both hands!

We had this same problem a few yrs ago.

If Frank Kent Cadillac had known how to re-initialized the moon roof we might still be a GM customer.

They replaced it TWO times, pinched a wire, door wouldn’t lock/unlock ETC ETC.

All covered by warranty but 3 visits and 5 lost days just because nobody knew to hold the open button in for 10 seconds after the battery was replaced.

  9. I have a 2010 Edge Limited and I get a horrible smell like stinky socks when I turn my air conditioner off. I have changed the cabin filter and it made no difference. Does anyone know what is causing it and how to fix it?

This is a known problem with a lot of auto AC’s.

Our 08 started stinking a few weeks ago.

    I bought a product called “Frigi-Fresh.”

With the AC on you spray it in the air intake by the passenger windshield wiper.

Working great, but it’s a temp fix.

Will have to do it again and again.

    Bought it at NAPA.

  10. ab - i read the escort manual and searched their forum - i can't find here you do this? I have the 9500ix as well. Everything I read talks about locking out fixed signal locations (i.e. known false alarm spots, etc.). Any help would be appreciated!

Try the TrueLock/GPS filter for your adaptive cruise.

I would start the cruise in my garage (or on a lonely road) with the detector on.

When the detector warns you, hit the mute button 3 times.

Hopefully it will remember your frequency, block it and ignore the fact that it is moving.

If that doesn’t work try Auto No X.

I use it when in town, ALL our school busses (we have thousands) use x band.

    Here’s a good forum.

  11. It’s MUCH easer and CHEAPER for the insurance co to write you a check for $11500 than fix it.

After all IT IS THEIR MONEY!!!

We can't believe this; you actually want SOME of it back.

I fell for the “it’s totaled” once… NOT GOING TO DO THAT AGAIN!

I ended up with a POS buzz bomb.

$11500 will make a nice down payment, unless you owe that much OR MORE on your Edge.

A friend took the money, bought the car from the insurance co for a few hundred $’s, then had it repaired.

He ended up with a nice car with a reconditioned title.

He still has it, it’s a 90 civic (the accident was in 95) with 300K+ miles.

  12. Is the motor making ANY UNUSUAL noise?

I have a dozen oil changing stories, but the one that might (???) apply to you is this one.

My son changed the oil in his new (to him) VW; he filled the filter before installing it, he was a teenager and AND you can't tell a teenager how to do ANYTHING.

Good thing I was there when he started it. Apparently by filling the filter it created an air lock and wouldn’t let any oil flow.

    knock knock hhmm knock knock

    TURN it off!

    restart

knock knock (not good) knock knock

    TURN IT OFF NOW!!!

I had him remove the filter and pour the oil out.

    Everything OK after that.

    Anyway:

I would check the oil, and then RECHECK it again (I'm sure you've already done this).

Then go get a new filter.

    Good luck

  13. Hi everyone, I am looking to purchase a Ford Edge. My wife and I have our eye on a Black one. 2008, Limited AWD. Has 55,000km. We are purchasing it used from a dealer near us.

To pass safety, we are told it needs new brakes and rotors.

Is this normal at 55,000km (not miles)? I know it all depends on how the previous person drove it. I am trying to guage if the person was a hard driver because the brakes already need to be changed. Or is this normal for the Edges to need brakes around 55,000/60,000km?

    Thanks everyone.

    Probably a LEFT FOOT braker.

I bet they got REALLY bad gas millage.

Our 08 has 47K miles (not km's) and does not need pads or rotors.

But I'm hard on the gas and easy on the brakes.

  16. Over the years this or a similar question has come up.

What are these little pads in a bag for?

    etc

Some make-ready depts. don’t install them.

You could use the search feature but I doubt you’ll find any info about your 2011.

You might as well head for your parts dept.

When you find the name and part # could you update this for future reference?

    sorry

  17. Help! I just got a 2007 Ford Edge and I need some help.....

I want to know if there is a way to program the car to open all of the locks when either the drivers door OR the passenger door is opened?? I hate it when I hop out of the car and run around to the rear passenger side to grab something and the doors are still locked! I want all of the locks to open when EITHER the driver or passenger doors are opened and the car is in park. Is that possible? I am guessing there is some combination of the Autolock and Autounlock features that I am missing.....But I just can't figure it out. Can someone explain it to me like I am a 3rd grader? (which I am not I swear!)

    Thanks!

    Shoegal2634

    This feature buggs me TOO!!

But my wife KNOWS that all those thousand and thousands of car jackers that live in our neighborhood will IMMEDIATELY jump in the car with us.

Do you have an owners manual?

You can download one from here.

    http://www.motorcraftservice.com/vdirs/retail/default.asp?pageid=&gutsid=&kevin=rules

Looks like youre NOT going to get the passenger door to UNlock ALL the doors.

But the drivers door should Unlock them with autoUNlock ACTIVATED.

I copied this from our PDF 08 MKX owners manual.

    Autolock feature

The autolock feature will lock all the doors when:

    all the doors are closed,

the ignition is in the 3 (RUN) position,

you shift into any gear putting the vehicle in motion, and

the vehicle attains a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h) for greater

    than 2 seconds.

    The autolock feature repeats when:

any door is opened then closed while the ignition is in the 3 (RUN)

position and the vehicle speed is 9 mph (15 km/h) or lower, and

the vehicle then attains a speed greater than 12 mph (20 km/h) for

    greater than 2 seconds.

    Deactivating/activating autolock feature

Your vehicle comes with the autolock features activated; there are four

    methods to enable/disable this feature:

    Through your authorized dealer,

by using a power door unlock/lock procedure,

using a keypad procedure (if equipped), or

or by using the instrument cluster message center (if equipped). Refer

to Message center in the Driver Controls chapter.

Note: The autolock feature can be activated/deactivated independently

    of the autounlock feature.

Power door lock switch autolock enable/disable procedure

Before starting, ensure the ignition is in the 1 (LOCK) position and all

vehicle doors are closed. You must complete Steps 15 within 30 seconds

or the procedure will have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be

repeated, wait a minimum of 30 seconds before beginning again.

    1. Place the key in the ignition and

turn the ignition to the 3 (RUN)

    position.

    2. Press the power door unlock

control on the door panel three

    times.

    3. Turn the ignition from the 3

(RUN) position to the 1 (LOCK)

    position.

    4. Press the power door unlock

control on the door panel three times.

    5. Turn the ignition back to the 3 (RUN) position. The horn will chirp

one time to confirm programming mode has been entered and is active.

    6. To enable/disable the autolock feature, press the unlock control, then

press the lock control. The horn will chirp once if autolock was

deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autolock was

    activated.

    7. Turn the ignition to the 1 (LOCK) position. The horn will chirp once

to confirm the procedure is complete.

Power door lock switch autounlock enable/disable procedure

Before starting, ensure the ignition is in the 1 (LOCK) position and all

vehicle doors are closed. You must complete Steps 15 within 30 seconds

or the procedure will have to be repeated. If the procedure needs to be

repeated, wait a minimum of 30 seconds before beginning again.

    1. Place the key in the ignition and

turn the ignition to the 3 (RUN)

    position.

    2. Press the power door unlock

control on the door panel three

    times.

    3. Turn the ignition from the 3

(RUN) position to the 1 (LOCK)

    position.

    4. Press the power door unlock

control on the door panel three times.

    5. Turn the ignition back to the 3 (RUN) position. The horn will chirp

one time to confirm programming mode has been entered and is active.

    6. To enable/disable the autounlock feature, press the lock control, then

press the unlock control. The horn will chirp once if autounlock was

deactivated or twice (one short and one long chirp) if autounlock was

    activated.

    7. Turn the ignition to the 1 (LOCK) position. The horn will chirp once

to confirm the procedure is complete.

    hope this helps
