  1. I bought a 2010 edge recently. When I tested drive I found the car has a car alarm system but just after I signed the paper and before signed the check, the dealer said I need to add $500 to get the pre-installed car alarm active! I said NO.

Any idea if we can activate the unit ourselves?

I thought this DEALER scam went away decades ago.

My father fell for it in the late 80’s, maybe early 90’s.

It’s a form of “bait and switch.”

You might try for an easy solution by visiting your salesperson.

Be professional, don’t pound on the desk.

Explain to him that you negotiated in good faith for the car as it sat on HIS lot.

Since you didn’t receive the car in the condition it was in when negotiations were completed you fell that negotiations are not complete and therefore ALL paprework is null and void.

If you aren’t satisfied, tell him you need your trade-in and down payment back OR he needs to put the car back to “as negotiated condition.”

    DON’T BACK DOWN!!

  2. There must be someway to make the instrument lighting it's brightest all the time. The change in brightness to dim makes it impossible to see. Even in bright daylight if the lights were at their brightest they would be easier to see. Couldent the module for them be overridden somehow?

YEP… kind of makes you wonder why they put clocks, external temperature, radio station info, etc.

Makes my wife nervous when I lean over shade the display with my hand and tell her “look it’s 101 at 11:00!”

But that’s the world we live in.

Have you ever wondered why these cheaper “point and shot” cameras are called “POINT (and guess what the picture will have in it) and shot?”

  3. Hello,

Recently I purchased a used 2007 Ford Edge SEL Plus.

The 2007 model did not come with Microsoft SYNC, so I am planing to install an aftermarket bluetooth hands-free kit.

I just got theParrot MKi 9100 car kit.

Additionally I have PDF versions of various wiring diagrams of the vehicle.

I would greatly appreciate some detailed step-by-step instructions on the installation process that focus on the following topics:

    • removing the car stereo
    • connecting the necessary cables
    • placing the mic above the rear view mirror

Have any of you done this procedure before?

Also, do I need some kind of additional connection harness?

    Thanks in advance!

    David

Take a look at this wiring harness.

I’ve used a couple of them (F250 and a Civic) and they ARE plug and play.

Should turn a 3 hr, cut and splice job into an easy 1 hr job.

  4. There are TONS of actual mileage comparisons at fueleconomy.gov. Just go compare the fuel economy of vehicles with and without E85 and you'll see that it's almost universally a 25% reduction. it's all physics since the rest of the car remains the same.

The point about GM's financial situation is that maybe they aren't the best role model when it comes to automotive decisions such as to make lots of flex fuel vehicles. It certainly hasn't helped them remain solvent up to this point.

    E85 is not the savior.

    Plus letters from manufactures.

We received a letter from BMW highly recommending we NOT use it, and if we did we should expect a dramatic decrease in performance and a 25% decrease in MPG.

    ab

  5. Okay, first of all that makes no sense. GM's financial situation has nothing to do with their vehicles being compatible with E85. I used to own a 2001 Taurus which was a flex fuel vehicle. You could fill up with plain gas, blended gas, and e85. Hell, if we had 100% ethanol fuel it could even burn that. (Like they do down in Brazil) There are STILL Ford vehicles being produced today which run on E85, mainly fleet vehicles. Most of the Ford city vehicles in my area also burn E85. So to assume that GM went under because of their E85 compatible engines is just wrong.

Second, who's to say that it isn't worth it?? Sure, you will get lower mileage, but you'll be releasing fewer toxins back into the atmosphere when you drive your Edge. Ethanol is here to stay for quite some time. Call me crazy but it's probably cheaper to convert a gasoline-powered car to run E85, versus buying a new "green" vehicle. How else do we expect to transition from gasoline to alternative fuels? You can't do it overnight, especially when the majority of the population owns gas-powered vehicles. Conversion kits would be the first step to this transition.

“Sure, you will get lower mileage, but you'll be releasing fewer toxins back into the atmosphere when you drive your Edge.”

Are you sure e85 is cleaner?

Sure the epa says it is but is it really?

NOTE: Brazil uses a sugar based E85 which is MUCH more efficient than our corn e85.

The vehicle would only move about 5’ for the epa test. Wonder what a “real world test would =?

    Here’s my version.

Our mkx will go about 325 miles per highway tank on e10 (anybody know what our millage would be on REAL gas?)

Our mkx would only go about 240 per highway tank on e85.

Looks like we would need 1 and ¼ tanks of e85 to travel the same miles!

    ¼ MORE e85 doesn’t sound very clean.

    ab

msfd350, it never hurts to ask your dealer. They may even have a conversion kit, or collection of parts that they use for converting fleet vehicles to E85.

  6. I will have my wife tell the service manager of this upgrade when we are having our 4 new rims installed due to corrosion of the outer clear coated aluminum rim. I will gladly pay $50 bucks if this upgrade would save my wifes/ 5 month old daughters life in the event of, god forbid, a crash.

How did you manage to get them to replace your wheels? the dealership keeps telling me that it happens on all rims that have a "lip" and that it is "rock" chips and not corrosion.Zippy

Back in 08/09 there were a lot wheels replaced because of creaking popping and tarnishing (not sure how plastic tarnishes).

  7. Was your warranty over the first time you took it in for this problem?

If you still had a warranty at that time I WOULD be down there in the morning IF THE light is on, make sure they see it before you turn the car off.

Then in my most diplomatic voice (seriously) I would say something like this.

You told me this could be a very hard problem to diagnose, so as a good faith effort on your part how about putting your best tech on it. OH and another good faith effort on your part, I'll need a loaner at your expense!

    Good luck

  8. I reset our MPG meter at every fill up.

I just luv to watch the meter change from 6 to 8, 10, 12, 13 then I REALLY llike to watch it drop at the first light (it’s always red :censored: ) 13, 11, 9, 7 then off we go again 7, 9, 11 then it’s time to stop at the NEXT (it’s also always red :censored: ) light, etc., etc., and ETC (THEY ARE ALL ALWAYS RED :banghead::banghead: ).

    Welcome to Ft. Worth, Texas

1 of the top 10 WORST cities in the US for coordinated lights.

HHhMMm maybe that’s why we only average 15.5 to 17.5 mixed in town, lots of freeways (now that’s an oxymoron (we (Texas) have the HIGHEST # of new toll rd miles))!!

  9. I know it sounds ridiculous but Ive replaced numerous batteries in my cars before. I cannot figure out for the life of me how to remove the battery from my 2007 Ford Edge. Does anyone know or has anyone replaced one from an edge before?

    Thank you

    Greetings and welcome

We havent changed our 08 yet but it looks pretty easy???

10mm wrench takes the cables off and an 8mm for the LONG bolt that holds it in.

Are you having trouble getting it past the air filter? You might need to take the top off the air filter???

  10. Greetings and welcome

Ours has always worked just fine… North Texas, LOTS of cubic feet to cool!

    How is you air volume?

Lots of air but NOT cold?

Not much air but is cold?

Have you checked your in-cabin filter?

  11. I have a 2007 AWD with the notorious rotting 18" chrome clad wheels.

I happened to find a brand new set of rims still in the box locally. I bought them and had them installed. It cost me a few bucks swapping of the pressure monitor sensors and balancing.

They look fantastic !!! They haven't seen but a few miles, just driving it home. I want to prevent the new wheels from corroding...

I noticed while washing them. When you think the wheel is dry, water also seems to keep flowing out onto the wheel edge.

My question is, is there any ideas to preventing the new wheels from corroding like the old ones?? I was looking at the design of theses wheels, and it seems like dirty, salty, brake dusty water from the inside of the rim flows outward under the chrome cladding and on to the rim edge where it eventually rots out.

Other wheels on my other cars have some sort of lip molded in the rim to prevent this.

I was thinking a sealant under or behind the cladding may work, but I am wondering if that will screw up the balance ?

    Any thoughts.

Can't see much, please resize the picture to 1024X768 or smaller,

  12. “Good Job” for forcing them to discover that it’s been in a serious accident.

    2 kids, student, wife!! :stop:

    Don’t buy it!!!

And DO NOT buy from this dealer.

Click here, enter your zip code, make, model and options and it will give you what is a good price for a new 2010 in your zip.

Maybe aim a little lower, lightly loaded SEL's are really nice.

MOFSTEEL has a good point, a (newish) used car can end up costing more than a new one.

You’ll be paying a higher interest rate for used.

  13. Greetings and welcome

    Depends on which X5.

    3.0 or 4.4

This is just my personal impression, the 3.0 is not quick and doesn’t handle very well.

We traded an X3 for the MKX and drove a few X5’s when the X3 was being worked on.

At the time I was not impressed AT ALL with the handling of the base X5 compared to the X3.

The X5 wasn’t even in the same league as the X3.

Speaking of “being worked on” the Sport WILL BE a nice change.

I suspect you'll find the handling of the Sport just fine compared to the X5.

    Let us know.

  14. Wow so this is a common issue?? I have never had a car a/c to smell from mildew. I never knew that was a cabin air filter. Are they on all cars?? I feel silly even asking that question!

Thanks guys for the answers, i will try them ALL, cuase this air STINKS!

Here's a nice long thread about the cabin filter including instructions on changing it and the Ford part #

  16. Hey Everyone,

Does anyone know if you can change a setting to stop the windshield courtesy wipe after you spray washer fluid on the window?

In case you don't know, it's when the you spray washer fluid, the wipers wipe 3 times and then stop. After about 3 seconds it wipes again. I hate this feature and want it to quit.

If anyone can help me out that would be great.

    Thanks.

    Greetings and welcome
