I got a 64 GB USB drive, threw 3.5 GB of music on to test, and it works beautifully! Will the infotainment system recognize playlists on the USB device? If so, what format should they be? I'd like to have a "clean" playlist to shuffle while my son is in the car, and another playlist or a few for when I'm riding with adults only.

After getting some feedback in another post related to playing music through a USB flash drive, I will just go that route and save my Bluetooth MP3 player and headphones for mowing the lawn. Thanks for your time.

It pairs and works perfectly with my Phaizer BHS-750 Bluetooth Headphones.

I have a 2017 Ford Edge Titanium with 301A (Sync 3). Is it a bad idea to keep a USB device (such as Sandisk Clip Sport MP3 Player) plugged in to the USB port always? I worry about the low current draw on my car battery - should I be concerned about this? Also, is it bad to leave a USB Flash Drive with audio files on it plugged into the USB port always (it's not a chargeable device)? When I get out of the car and leave the MP3 Player plugged in, each time I open the door, or any time accessory power comes on, it turns the USB device on and then relies on it's Timeout feature to turn it back off (currently set to 10 minutes). I'm just worried about my car battery and device battery as I prefer to fully cycle the MP3 battery each time between charges instead of constantly providing a charge to it while driving. For this reason, I tried getting a Bluetooth version of the MP3 player, but I'm having different issues (connectivity) with that (different post on this forum). Thanks for your knowledge on these battery-related questions. I just got a 16 GB Sandisk Clip Sport Plus with Bluetooth MP3 Player with the hopes of pairing it with my 2017 Ford Edge Titanium with Sync 3 (301A). They seem to pair up fine, yet the MP3 Player won't play through my car. My Clip Sport Plus recognizes the device as "Ford Edge", and my Edge recognizes my MP3 device as "Clip Sport Plus". The Edge said, "Pairing to Clip Sport Plus successful, would you like to listen to it now?" (or something like that), and when I clicked Yes, the current Audio Source (Sirius) keeps playing and doesn't switch to the Clip Sport Plus. So I go to Sources --> Bluetooth Stereo --> Clip Sport Plus, and choose Connect Device, but the Edge infotainment keeps telling me "Connection Failed. No response from Device". The device is on and I've even tried pausing and un-pausing the MP3 Player while trying to connect to it. Any idea on why this won't all function the way I expected it to? I have read the manual for the Clip Sport Plus and the Edge. I searched this forum for related threads, but can't find my problem being talked about elsewhere. I know that the Clip Sport Plus uses the A2DP Bluetooth Stereo profile. My Sync 3 version is 2.2, Build 16280 (I know 17011 is an available update, but I don't want to update it unless it will specifically fix the issue I'm having). Sorry for the long post. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Yep - that's the one. I purchased the part when I took delivery of my ordered car, but since it was raining that day, they didn't want to install it then. I had them sell it to me at their cost (at least what they showed me was their cost - realistically, their cost is probably like $20, if). I think I paid something like $60.65 or thereabouts. I'm very glad I have it.

Damn dude, sweet ride! That SunTek 45 does look great in front of the factory rear tint. 45% from SunTek can only be Carbon or CXP. Do you know which you have? They are both better products than the Standard Pro that was suggested to me by an installer. I think I'd prefer the CXP but haven't priced it out yet. And I still need to take a closer look at some reference photos for the 3M Crystalline.

Thanks for the comment TheWizard. I mentioned the 3M Crystalline in my second post (#3). I'm seriously considering that product line if I can find a qualified installer near me. I just haven't had a ton of time to investigate lately as I am swamped with... life. I like that it comes in 90, 70, 60, 50, 40 and 20, so again, it would achieve my goals outlined in post #3. I like your idea of putting the 90% on the windshield - I wasn't initially planning on putting any film on the windshield, but I may consider that actually.

I've heard a bit about Huper Optik, specifically on some tint-related forums. Most everything I heard about them was positive, along with a popular company called Llumar. I'm still trying to find the time to refine my research and determine the products I'd like to get the most, and then marry that to a reputable authorized dealer near me (probably the more challenging task) to install that preferred product for me. In regards to your statements about the police / sheriff, I totally agree with what you're saying. The tint installers all have disclaimers that we owners proceed with the install at our own risk. I have read about the laws and regulations in my home state. Ignorance to the law is not grounds for breaking it. I would not install an illegal tint in the expectations that the installer would cover my ticket. As such, I specifically don't want to draw attention to my vehicle, which is why I don't want dark tints installed to begin with. While the cops may be looking for more interest throughout their day, I don't want to be the source of that additional "interest". I just want to ride nice and cool when the humidity is scorching the earth outside of my cabin. Stay cool...

From what I understand, the privacy glass that comes from the factory doesn't do a very good job at blocking UV, Heat, etc. It's just a dark colored tint impregnated in the glass for "privacy". I don't believe there is any "film" installed in the back from the factory - just dark glass. I would add a nearly transparent film in the back for the heat blocking characteristics I previously mentioned. As for the pano roof, I would add a film there because I still feel a good bit of heat beating on me from above when the shade is open and the glass panel is closed. I like driving with the shade open and the panel either closed or just venting, so adding the film there is more of a comfort convenience that I (and the Mrs.) would appreciate. Though I don't think I personally would go as dark as 5% since I still want the benefit of the views / open feeling of having the glass roof in the first place. I just want to cut down on heat build-up in the cabin as opposed to making everything look dark (I want to keep it classy and rather stock looking, but with performance enhancements). That's my primary goal.

Thanks for your response. I'm still researching options for who / where I want to take my car for tinting. I had a highly recommended guy lined up, but he only uses Suntek Standard Pro and only carries 35% and darker. I don't think that's what I'm looking for. I don't mind the factory look of having the front windows lighter than the rest (I really don't want to get pulled over), and I'm mainly looking for performance gains in reducing heat and protecting my leather and vinyl / plastics from direct sunlight. So I am looking for a place with great reviews that offers better products than Suntek Standard Pro, like perhaps the 3M Crystalline, or even the Suntek CXP. I may go with 50% on the front side windows, and perhaps 90% on the factory tinted privacy glass. I will probably go with something like a 40% on the vista roof.

Just wanted to say thanks for all of the amazing information on this thread!!! You have helped me successfully prep and protect my new car. I'm the happy new owner of an all black 2017 Edge Titanium, and thanks to all of you (as well as my own efforts and quality Meguiar's products), it looks amazing!!! I took delivery on 7/6, ordered all of my supplies, and started my detailing process 12 days later once I had everything I needed. I did wash it twice with Meguiar's Gold Class Car Wash during those two weeks prior to detailing it. It rained all day when I picked up my new car, and I was hoping the dealer didn't do much as far as detailing it, and I'm pretty sure they didn't do much. The total detailing process took me 12 hours to complete the interior and exterior. I started detailing in my garage on the night of 7/18 which included cleaning, conditioning and protecting my black leather surfaces and all other interior surfaces using Meguiar's Rich Leather Cleaner and Meguiar's Quik Interior Detailer Cleaner. I used Stoner's Invisible Glass for all of the interior glass surfaces. Total process took about 3 hours with a few breaks. The next day was hot and humid, and for the first time ever, I washed my new car inside my garage with the door down far enough to keep the direct sunlight off the body of the car! I used all Meguiar's products, starting with the Gold Class Car Wash, followed by the Smooth Surface Clay Kit (then installed my rear bumper protector), then did the glass with Stoner's Invisible Glass, then sealed everything with Meg's Ultimate Liquid Wax, and the next day I finally went over it with the Gold Class Carnauba Plus Premium Wax (Spray). I use the Gold Class Quik Detailer almost daily to keep it shiny between washes. I haven't tended to the wheels yet, but hope to get those cleaned and sealed with the Ultimate Liquid Wax later this week or next weekend. I will then also apply the Meguiar's Endurance Tire Gel. I am very happy with the results so far!!! Detailing my new car is proving to be a very therapeutic process for me. Thanks everyone!

I'm a big fan of Meguiar's products. My initial cleaning and protection process after picking up my 2017 Edge Titanium was: Megs Gold Class Car Wash, Megs Smooth Surface Clay Kit, Stoner's Invisible Glass, Megs Ultimate Liquid Wax sealer coat, and Megs Gold Class Carnauba Plus Premium Quik Wax (Spray) top coat. I have Megs Gold Class Premium Quik Detailer that I use between washes. I did apply RainX to the windshield (which didn't last very long), and I did apply the Megs Ultimate Liquid Wax to the other windows and vista roof. For the interior, I used Megs Gold Class Rich Leather Cleaner and Conditioner on all leather surfaces, and the Megs Quik Interior Detailer Cleaner on all of the other interior surfaces, including the vinyl, plastics, electronics, center stack, gauge cluster, etc. I love that it doesn't leave a greasy feel and dries to a nice Matte finish. I use all Chemical Guys microfiber cloths. I bought 12 Blue (for washing) and 12 Gold (for drying), plus received others from Meguiar's as part of kits that I ordered. I will always wash and clean with Blue and will always dry with Gold. I do want to get a few large waffle weave drying towels as well as a few more dozen microfiber towels. I haven't tended to the wheels yet, but I have Megs Hot Rims All Wheel and Tire Cleaner, and Megs Endurance Tire Gel. I will likely add the Ultimate Liquid Wax to the wheels after I have them all cleaned up.

Just wanted to say thanks again to you all for taking the time to reply on this topic. Ultimately, since it's July and the days are still so long, I haven't done too much night driving at all. I have received the H9 and 9011 upgraded Philips bulbs, but I'm going to wait until closer to fall to switch them out so I can truly tell if the difference in that upgrade is remarkably better or not. I think regardless, I will probably just stick with halogen's (meaning the H9 and 9011 upgraded halogens) since upgrading the housings and purchasing an HID kit would be a pricey mod. Overall, I sent back a bunch of LED's I ordered since I am shockingly happy with almost all of the interior and exterior lighting on the car. I will change out the license plate bulbs and puddle lights under the side mirror housings for LED's for sure, but everything else I am satisfied with as it came from the factory.

Thanks for all the replies. I installed my Ford accessory bumper protector last Wednesday after I clay barred my car, before I sealed it with Meguiar's Ulitmate Liquid Wax. Installation was very easy. I just eye-balled it and I'm very happy with the placement I got (and I'm quite picky about symmetry). The adhesion is strong with next to no bubbling at all and no edges peeling up. I was quite surprised at how thin the protector is. I was expecting it to be a much thicker plastic piece as opposed to thin rubber, but I still think it will serve it's purpose very well. It is fully opaque and mine is black (not clear like a previous post mentions). It does say "EDGE" in the middle, which complements the car well. Overall, I'm very happy with it!

My son plays ice hockey (goalie) and also plays soccer (and I coach the soccer team). With all the sports equipment constantly being loaded and unloaded, I'm sure the strip will be a wise choice to protect the original paint finish back there. I will certainly try to be careful with it, but there's no way I'm not going to install the bumper protector.

+1 Glad someone else said it for me. I think that since I just took delivery of my new Edge, that it's the perfect time to start caring for it. Ford hasn't had the best track record with paint. The best time to start taking care of any car is as soon as possible. I'm quite sure the 17 year old kid (who I met - he was all proud of his work, lol) that prepped my car didn't wax it for me, or do anything more than just wash it (hopefully by hand!) and dry it. After traveling from Ontario to NJ and then to my local dealer in PA, I can only imagine how much debris is clinging to my paint from that journey. The sooner I scrub all of those contaminants off with clay (after washing), the better. Then it's time for a quality sealer, and a quality wax, which is the very start of my cleaning regimen. I just wasn't sure when to install the bumper cover in that process since I'm not an adhesives expert. Thanks WWWPerfA_ZN0W for that recommendation! I know the sealer and wax I have say they won't stain plastic trim white which is good, but I'll double check about what the part wants for protection before applying anything to it. Thanks guys! +1 on using the leather conditioner - lots of good products out there to protect those seats... Perhaps also consider adding a tint film (doesn't have to be dark!) to the windows that will reject UV rays, heat build-up, etc. There are products available with these sun-blocking characteristics that won't make the car look "pimped". Also, if you are parking it where it's exposed to direct sunlight for extended periods of time, a windshield cover is a cheap investment that makes a lot of sense. Stating the obvious, If you don't let the sun's rays get to the leather seats / vinyl dash, it won't be able to break them down nearly as much. Just my .02. Oh, I just noticed this is an old thread. How have your seats held up?

I wasn't quite sure if I should post this under Accessories & Modifications or here under Appearance (Detailing), but here goes... I am getting ready to install the Ford (dealer accessory) rear bumper protector, but I'm wondering at what stage of detailing this part should be installed for best results? I just took delivery of my '17 Edge one week ago, and my clay bar kit, sealant, wax and more will be delivered tomorrow. Should I install the adhered bumper protector to the paint after I clay bar it, or after I seal it, or after I wax it? Thanks in advance for your attention and recommendations.

Has anyone used a Visible Light Meter to measure the light transmission of the factory rear windows on a 2017 Edge (or other model year)? I'm curious what the actual light transmission is. Additionally, for anyone that has tinted the front driver and passenger windows to match the factory rear privacy glass, what brand, color and percentage did you use and how well does it match? I'm in PA, where the tint laws seem to be very much in a gray area - most info online clearly states that the front windows must have a 70% VLT, however, many people claim that these are merely regulations set by PennDOT which governs highway patrol, and not the actual written law. I would err on the side of caution and prefer to comply with the "regulations" to avoid any mishaps and arguments with state troopers, but a few installers I've talked to say they typically install 20% for their customers, and many don't stock anything lighter than 35%. I'd like to install a film that will greatly reduce heat buildup, infrared and UV Rays, but I don't want to run the risk of getting pulled over. Therefore, I'd like to choose a film that is slightly lighter than the back windows, which would be easier to choose if I know what percentage the back windows are... Thanks,

Sorry to see no one has responded to your question. Have you purchased a roof rack for your '16 Edge? I am searching for a similar solution for my '17 Edge Titanium with Vista Roof. It looks like Etrailer has some recommendations and options from Rhino Rack, Yakima and Inno, including installation videos on a 2015 Edge with Vista Roof, but I will need to continue doing more research before I'm comfortable with buying a roof rack and throwing my two kayaks (39 lbs. each) on top. I also want to get a cargo basket for hauling camping gear (tents, tarps, chairs, etc.) from time to time. My big concern is the single sentence that seems to govern the load capacity in my Owner's Manual (pg. 226 in my 2017 Edge Owner's Manual - Load Carrying). "The maximum recommended load, evenly distributed on the roof rack, is 100 lb (45 kg)." The manual makes no reference regarding the vista roof though. I have to believe that the max weight capacity would be different between a metal roof and a glass roof. Everyone says "check the owner's manual for the load capacity", but it doesn't seem that clear to me. I just pulled up the 2017 Escape Owner's Manual and it clearly states: "The maximum recommended load, evenly distributed on the crossbars, is: 100 pounds (45 kilograms) for vehicles without a moonroof 45 pounds (20 kilograms) for vehicles with a moonroof." 45 lbs.!?! That really scares me.

I know Ford claims that roof rails can't be added to the '17 Edge when equipped with the Panoramic Vista Roof. I figured there would be some aftermarket options that would be compatible. I need to haul two kayaks from time to time, as well as an open frame cargo basket that I will put camping gear in from time to time. For everyday driving, I would hope to keep the roof rack (cross rails) off the vehicle, and only mount them when necessary. Can anyone provide any recommendations on how to achieve this?
