  1. I will be objective. If there is anyone out there that is completely satisfied with the fix on the PTU problem, I am more than willing to report this on my blog as well. Unfortunately, no one has taken the time or there are no satisfied Ford Edge Owners. Let me know and I will post the good as well as the bad, since I would like to have my vehicle repaired so I can be done with it. SMOKIN EDGE P.S. I would like to see a copy of this detailed TSB you talk about
  2. The problem has been primarily with the '07 and '08s but I noticed the other posts have identified that some'09 owners (http://www.fordedgeforum.com/index.php?showtopic=3149&hl=) are having problems. Ford has not been forthcoming about the problem and haven't issued any recall so it is difficult to identify defective vehicles. That said it seems to be primarily a problem in colder climates in the winter. My vehicle started stinking at under 3,000 km. If you smell smoke like burning wax, you have just purchase a crappy Ford Edge like the rest of us. For more Stinkin PTU stories with the Ford Edge, you can check out my blog. http://www.smokinedge.com SMOKIN EDGE
  3. I just dropped off my '08 Ford Edge for a 10k oil change. I was told that last time (at 5K) I had "red" fluid leaking and that is when they change the PTU seals and the drive shaft. This time they tell me that "brown" fluid is leaking and that seal has to be changed. So I left the vehicle with the dealer. I very displeased with quality of this vehicle. Ford has completely taken the thrill out of buying a new vehicle. SMOKIN EDGE
  4. This is a caveat, as I have no problems with the gas stations I have been using here in Canada. The vast majority of stations here do not have the vapour hoods on them. There is about a 1.5 inch or so between the cap and the existing flap. (My Edge doesn`t actually have a flap on it - I don`t know if this is a defect or not) If you use gas stations with the vapour hood on them this is going to be a problem or your going to end up unscrewing the cap, therefore there is not advantage to this gas cap.
  5. See instructions here: http://stant.com/brochure.cfm?brochure=511...ocation_id=5070 Notice the hooded nozzle at the bottom.
  6. I have been using for about 2 months (dozen fills) now without out any problems. No check engine light. No problems with sealing. Just have to make sure that the gas nozzle can reach through both holes. Also you need to wait a second or two after filling so you don`t get drizzle ( you know - like you would at the urinal). Believe me when it is cold here - you don`t want to stand around outside filling your vehicle any longer than you have to. SMOKIN EDGE
  7. I use a Stant Cap - Instant Fill http://tinyurl.com/cc96ku 5 Bucks Works great! SMOKIN EDGE
  8. In the manufacturing industry this is a way of cost reducing the product - taking out cost while keeping the margins the same. If you notice the Ford Edge is deficient in a number of areas: no glove box light, to center console light, no under hood light, etc. If I look at my '95 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer you can see how Ford has cut cost and weight out of the vehicle. Now as owners we have to try and put these basic things back on the vehicle. SMOKIN EDGE
  9. I have about 14 complaints about Stinkin PTU Problems with the Ford Edge. Most of them seem to be coming from the Northern States or Canada. So it does seem to confirm that it is a cold weather problem. At this point people don't care anymore they just want resolution. This is definitely my last Ford. SMOKIN EDGE
  10. Maybe Ford used the same "O" rings on the Ford Edge as the Space Shuttle! SMOKIN EDGE
  11. Is the tuner device required only once when it is installed or is this tool needed on-going. The tuner costs more than the mode itself! Gary
  12. And Ford has the gaul to continue to advertise on TV that their Quality is as good as Nissan and Toyota - Bull Shit I am going back at 10,000km for as second set of seals. My experience of buying a Ford has turned me against the Fricken Company. Screw them. I would like to have one of those executive sitting in some ivory tower some place come and have a ride in this smoking vehicle and sit at at a red light and have the putrid smell coming into the vehicle. What a piece of shit. Gary Smith SMOKIN EDGE
  13. This is amazing, if you get compensation this opens up the floodgates for numerous other of us who have had the same problem. Please provide a build date from you vehicle so we can access whether this is applicable to our vehicles. Gary Smith SMOKIN EDGE
  14. Does this product affect warranty at all? I know it adds 35hp, but what is the increase in fuel economy? I going to be driven to the Seattle area later in the year and would like to get someone to install this for me and tune my Ford Edge. Is there any one that sells and installs in Seattle or Olympia? Gary
  15. Submit your name to the "Growing List of Disgruntled Ford Edge Owners with the stinkin PTU Problem at the SMOKIN EDGE The more of us that get together on this problem the more likely we can persuade Ford to act. Gary
  16. I hope you are right and they come through for everyone at some point in the future. I like most people don't have the time and energy to wait this out well Ford gets their shit together. I would rather spend my energy elsewhere in my life. Gary
  17. Sorry I beg to differ. I don't believe Ford has made any progress on this problem and don't feel that they are doing anything. Some owners have had PTU seals changed 6 times. This is unacceptable. Can't Ford do some competitive analysis and strip down a competitors product and learn how it is done right! I guess Ford just hires the dumbest engineers? Gary Smith SMOKIN EDGE
  18. I guess Ford doesn't do AWD. They did 4WD okay since I had a 1995 Ford Explorer that worked okay and had over 260,000km on it. But the problem that many of us are having with the Ford Edge AWD is an example that Ford simply cannot engineer a product correctly. Others like Toyota, Subura, Honda are much further ahead with the AWD technology. Ford needs to pick its battles - AWD isn't on of them - maybe 4WD F150 is their market? I am taking my Ford Edge back in a couple of weeks to get it inspected for the stinking PTU Problem again. Add me to the list of owners who are simply pissed at Ford. If you want to add your name to a list of pissed PTU customers check out my web site. I plan to send this list to Ford. Gary Smith SMOKIN EDGE
  19. Are you proud to work for a company that treats its customers the way they have treated us?
  20. Dymes any comment on the PTU Problems Ford is having. I thought since you work at the plant you can give me the scope. I will be visiting Oakville in May. Any change I can get a visit of the Plant? Gary Smith SMOKIN EDGE
  21. Still Smokin. I am approaching 6,000km and looking to set up my second appointment to have them look at PTU seals replaced again as my vehicle is still smoking. I regret the day I bought a Ford Edge and am frustrated with their responce to managing this stinkin PTU problem. You can see why Ford will always be a mediocre company. There is a saying when you work in the Service industry that if things always go right then you never know how good a company's service is. I think many of us are now experiencing how good Ford service really is and what they mean by Quality. I am presently checking with a lawyer on a Class Action Suite and if there is merit to pursue I will advise. If so I will be taking names at the www.smokinedge.com Gary Smith SMOKIN EDGE
  22. It is probably a Power Transfer Unit (PTU) which others and myself have been having problems with. I don't have any faith in Ford's Quality or their ability to fix the problem. I have started a blog to provide information to owners with the same problem. Gary Smith SMOKINEDGE
  23. I smell a class action suite coming for the stinkin PTU Problem with the Ford Edge. Gary Smith SMOKIN EDGE
