  1. I don't think putting studded snow tires on an AWD edge would cause any problems. On the other hand, my wife's AWD edge gets around great in snow with factory all season tires, so I don't think studded tires are needed.
  2. Snow again today. Look out Chicagoland.

  3. I live in eastern Iowa and we are getting the snow now. I will be sure to send some if it on to Chicagoland.
  4. We will be loading up the edge tomorrow morning for the trip to Grandma's house. They are calling for snow and ice. The AWD system will make it seem like dry pavement.
  5. I have to agree with Waldo. The racing set up of RWD cars has nothing to do with safety and the elimination of understeer. You are really barking up the wrong tree here wwest.
  6. wwest, where are you coming up with the idea that somehow FWD or AWD is more hazardous than RWD? It just does not make sense, and it appears I am not the only one who thinks this.
  7. Do a quick search of the forums and you will find a number of threads extolling the virtues of the sport wing moldings. I installed them on the wifes edge and they look great. I had not seen their bumper protector, but I have been very happy with the bushwhacker model made for the Scion xb. One of our members found that it was a good fit for the edge. Do s search for Scion, and you should find the info on that item. I did a quick look at the sport wing bumper cover, and I would recomend the Scion option instead. The sport wing model does not cover the lip of the bumper, and that is the area most prone to damage.
  8. In my thirty years of driving, most of them in the snowy conditions of the upper midwest, I have gotten into trouble with rear wheel drive cars much more often than fwd cars. As far as the awd system in the wifes edge, I tried playing around with it in a snowy parking lot last winter, and it is very difficult to get any wheel spin no matter how stupid I got. I understand your concern about loss of directional control with a spinning fwd system, but I think it is much harder for the average driver to recover from a spinning rear wheel induced skid than a spinning fwd straight line slide.
  9. To hear wwest talk, fwd is the most dangerous thing since the Corvair.
  10. Ouch, even more than I thought it would be.
  11. Ouch, glad your wife was not hurt. Even that little bit of damage is going to be pricey at the body shop. What do you think? $3,000?
  12. Thanks for the info evil. I will have to google up what the stock edge is supposed to do. Well, that looks about a second faster than stock. Thanks again for the info.
  13. Mine did not come in a Toyota box and didn't say anything about being a genuine Toyota part.
  14. I know you are just running the programmer for the gas mileage, but when you say your edge hauls ass, can you please estimate a 0-60 time?
  15. My wifes 2008 awd limited gets about 14 in town and 21 on the highway. The highest we have ever seen is 23.
  16. My wife has an 08 AWD Limited. Last winter we had quite a bit of snow in the midwest. The edge did very well in the snow. You really have to push hard if you want the traction control to kick in. I played with it a couple of times in an empty snowy parking lot. You almost can't make the tires spin.
  17. I have back up sensors on the wifes edge. The protector does not go down far enough on the bumper to reach the sensors. It just goes a little past the bevel at the top of the bumper.
  18. The only problem with the rest of us finding out you are a female is now we all have to hold our stomachs in while we read your posts. Thanks again for the work you did finding the Scion bumper protector. The one I put on the wifes edge looks and works great.
  19. Jo, take a look here. They have several choices in 20" wheels to fit the edge. http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/results.jsp...&sort=Brand
  20. Hello pot, I would like you to meet Mr. kettle.
  21. I still think you are overblowing the hazzards true chrome wheels present. I have had wheel lip corrosion on aluminum wheels as well as chrome wheels in the past. It has always resulted in a slow leak that was cured by cleaning the inside of the wheel. I have never had a wheel go flat or blow out because of this problem.
  22. I think you are mistaking condescending for experienced. Many of us have had our fill of the chrome clad wheel saga that Ford has been spinning. When you come here without even having driven your new edge and tell us how much better the chrome clad wheels are than real chrome wheels, it hurts your credibility.
  23. Do you always post like a jerk when you start out on a new forum? Welcome aboard.
  24. Again, maybe you didn't read my original post. Once my warranty is up and ford will no longer replace the defective chrome clad wheels, I will be buying something else.
