  1. Deleted some of the post, was not relevant. Took it off, sucked on it, it did not seem to allow air through. Someone did a test on one with a vacuum pump, seemed to have a different result from sucking on it. I do not know if the suction you can create is enough to get an accurate test? I have suspected the valve the entire time though fordtechmackloco seemed to think the valve that mounts on the firewall is more reliable than a later model. It has not been replaced. Does yours mount on the firewall? How bad was your idle? Did you have any codes or symptoms? Did you attempt to do some kind of vacuum test on it before replacing it? I have heard of these causing issues. Do not know how bad. Also do not know if the p457 can be loosely associated with this problem. Someone mentioned the gas cap then looking at a chain of things in the evap, seems very complicated if getting into that. Possible the gas cap was just loose. Has anyone had a bad maf with no codes? It is very clean.
  2. In summery Edge 3.5 has rough idle which is now always present including cold and 40 plus degrees. The idle gets to the point where it is stumbling, almost stalling in a parking lot. It is doing this frequently. This makes it very unpleasant to drive. It has none of these symptoms on the hwy. Posted before, have been through a laundry list of tune up items. Scanning 2x at a car service place there is no codes driving on short loops. 2 different places. The vacuum is 16.5 at idle, so far one person said that is not as important as it being steady. It is very steady. Still do not know if it should be at 18 plus at 900ft, no one replied. I do not currently have a way to do an extensive vac test but that may be a waste of time if it is at 16.5. Has anyone had a bad throttle body that caused stumbling, irratic, rough idle with drive ability problems in parking lots? It seems to have an internal tps. There was a recall on f150s for something. Is the only way to check that other than throwing parts at it with an oscilloscope? If so that seemed like a very involved test procedure. I do not know where to go with this. It had one 457 gas cap code, that was likely the gas cap itself. It has not happened in 100 miles since then.
  3. if you have a new ptu, like r and r, it may be a good idea to do it at 3k for break in period.
  4. That is usefully info. I commented on engine oil but that is different. The fluid that came out of the ptu at 158k was absolutely burnt. It is amazing the thing drove in a parking lot up till 168k. It may have been the longest lasting ptu ever. It was very noisy but no metal fragments in the case. When they say it is a regular drain and fill, that is no joke, 30k, in my estimate.
  5. Do not know other than the new ptu will be changed every 30k. The new one has a heat shield which may only do so much. Extended the breather tube to allow for a super slow fill at the fire wall rather than killing self on the side. Friend who deals with a lot of engine builds says for motor oil, the thin stuff is for corporate fuel economy, provides little protection, little mileage gains. I am probably going to run 10 30 synthetic on the next oil change.
  6. These are interesting changes they made to the performance aspect of this platform. The pan is use worldwide in many applications, many of which are high performance. In my case, I have a stock Edge. The struts thus far are a massive improvement Taking the monroe oe spectrum struts apart, pushing the tube to the floor, the did not return, they where dead. This is at 60k. I have 95k on another pair in a sendan, they are still going strong. Even with old tires, it corners really well. I am tracking a front end noise that may be the new sway bar bushings. They where greased but I may have to get an energy suspension bushing with a geasable joint. Do not know at if this is the noise but it needs to go way. I have greasable energy suspension on another ford sedan, it was making horrible noise. I replaced the sway bar links with those, it is dead quiet. The whole front end has been really good over 95k miles. Double wish bone. So the fcs quick struts are performing very well on a test drive. No plowing with braking. I need to narrow down this noise, the whole front end was replaced. However, with the quality of parts, one needs to proceed with caution. I replace a failed anchor trans mount at 12k, complete garbage. DO NOT buy them. It was riding on the mounting bolt, talk about vibrations in the drivers seat. Everyone can say do oem. I use a lot of oem parts. I wonder if the existing anchor engine mount really has hydralic fluid in it. I put a jack under the oil pan but the vibration at idle did not change. I do know I would never buy another junk anchor mount.
  7. This is warranty situation. This is a stock, limited, awd edge. They have fcs quick struts which you may not like. I was able disassemble them. The oe spetrums are have no gas charge left at 60k. This is not a performance application. I wonder how good the spring and strut bearing is on the fcs. The bearings are moog, they seem to be good still.
  8. Yes their tubes have issues. The ones on my sedan are really good. These had made in usa stamped on them. I am usually happy when I see that. I have been dealing with noise and a squatting front end for a while. It will eventually trash the expensive tires on the car. The ones on the car are at about 60k. Usually you have reduced performance but frankly not enough to worry about on a Edge Explorer unless you are tracking it. I have no fluid leaks out of these. Some said fcs are ok. Some said kyb are good. I had kyb, those where very good on a taurus. Usually when I install struts, I get a ton of mileage out of them, do not notice much of a difference. I have had excellent experiences with sachs but they are not made for this application that I know of. Yes, taking the spring apart is a pain but it pays off if you get 95k out of them. The springs on my ford sedan frankly show no signs of squat, give, or handling issues. I do wonder about the quality of the quick strut springs but you end up in a position where it is such a pain that you are almost willing to deal with it. Do not buy cheap quick struts, that is a mistake. Those springs are junk.
  9. Warning to check. Ordered New oe spetrum struts, Monroe for the front of the Edge. Went to install them, did not think to actually check the gas charge on the struts. These are not quick struts. Took a strut out, opened the left side box, the new strut was dead with no gas charge left in it. The only plus was it was not leaking on me. Opened the other box, the other strut was dead out of the box. Now I have the car sitting in the garage, trying to find different struts. I have never had bad struts out of the box. I have 95k on another oe spetrum strut, those have no issues. Imagine a quick strut. You cannot even tell if the strut is dead as the spring is on it. Kyb may be a better brand but I usually do not have an issue with Monro like this.
  10. Also, there is no detectable hissing noises. Have seen some people using carb cleaner, seems random. There is not much room to do anything on the right side of the motor.
  11. Does anyone know where this goes on an awd edge? It might have been near the ptu. Two small bolts hold it on. This is a 2009 AWD sel. Trying to determine where this heat shield goes. It has two 8mm bolts, goes somewhere around the power steering or PTU area. I cannot tell where. The numbers on it to not correspond with any diagrams I can find.
