  1. You think you have it bad in Germany, up here in Finland the gas price is now 1.74 € per litre I have improved the situation a little by installing the premium fuel program from a Hypertech Max Energy programmer I purchased. As you know, the Edge is calibrated to run on regular 87 AKE (US standard) which would be similar to 91 Ron (EURO std) if you could get it. Here in Europe, the standard fuel is 95 Ron which is similar to 92 AKE in the US but running the 95 Ron here in Europe gives no benefit. When I installed the calibration file, my consumption improved about 2 l/100, I also changed the speed limiter, although not much chance to try it up here but nice to know that I will not be held back, if I ever try. Sadly, I don't think they are ready with the 3.7L calibration but you can ask.
  2. I have heard that Switzerland is the land of the it is also the land of the Anti-Christ when it comes to cars with noise and power so will they really let you make it louder?
  3. From the manual: Memory seat and mirrors (if equipped) This system allows automatic positioning of the driver seat and outside rearview mirrors, to two programmable positions. The memory seat control is located on the driver door. • To program position one, move the driver seat and exterior mirrors to the desired positions using the associated controls. Press the SET control. The SET control light will briefly illuminate. While the light is illuminated, press control 1. • To program position two, repeat the previous procedure using control 2. A position can only be recalled when the transmission gearshift is in Park (automatic transmission). A memory seat position may be programmed at any time. The memory seat positions are also recalled when you press your remote entry transmitter UNLOCK control and the transmitter is programmed to a memory seat position or when you enter a valid customer code 1 or 2 on the keypad.
  4. I wish that I had heard about these bulbs before I had to modify my 08 to be legal in Finland, which was to drill and insert small 5W white bulbs to headlamps and move the parking lamp wire so that parking lights are white. This would have been so much easier and I still may do this as headlamps look a little small at night during the winter as the original amber lambs that come on with headlamps only flash now. This mod will make the headlamps look wider at night. But no need to hurry as we are almost in the 24 hours of daylight up here so headlamps never come on (only DRL's) and it will be September before any darkness again.
  5. So I guess a trip up to 66° North is right out of the question
  6. Hi, I know how to do it but nice test inspectors up here in Finland realise that its not easy and let me off. Only had to fit white park lights to the front, amber turn signals to the sides which I did by installing LED's to the door mirrors a rear fog light and stamp the VIN under the hood. I may one day do the rear lights as I have never liked read rear turn signals and the easiest process is to: 1) Take a feed from the centre rear brake lights to a relay as the control and take power off the relay to the left and right brake connection. 2) Either take a control from the front turn signal to a relay and power off of relay to turn signal and repeat on the other side or take the signal from the control module (left of drivers legs). 3) Finally, connect a 3 ohms resistor is the original turn/brake circuit so that the vehicle diagnostics does not make your lamps flash fast. One other change I made to my vehicle was to purchase a Hypertech max energy power programmer to improve the fuel economy by changing the ignition timing to run on 95 RON. Standard Edge fuel in NA is Regular 87 AKE, the programmer has a program for Premium fuel which is 92 AKE, this is equivalent to 95 RON in Europe. Other benefits of the programmer are that you can ready and clear OBD codes and change other vehicle parameters like the Speed limiter!
  7. I had the same meeting for all the Ford Edge Owners here in Rovaniemi, Finland (maybe all of Finland) last weekend and they all turned out. All one of me!
  8. I've had my Edge Limited since 2008 (Canada) and used the recommended 5W20 regular every fall and spring but have moved to Finland along with Edge last year and was not able to obtain 5W20. So I filled it with Ford synthetic 5W30 last fall and have not noticed any problems at normal running temperature. I think the fuel consumption saving from the 5W20 can only be seen from the total fleet and not noticeable form a customer.
  9. That's correct, no requirement just I wanted to get the advantage of the higher octane fuel here in Europe.
  10. Hi, the officials here in Finland were much more easy going, when I brought my 2008 Edge Limited back from Canada, after a 3 year working trip. Only change the yellow parking lamps for white which was to drill and fit 5W bulbs to headlamps for new parking lights and leave turn signals as they were. Fit side turn signals (stick on LED's to door mirrors), rear fog light and finally stamp VIN under hood. They said I could leave the rear brake/turn signals red as they understood that its a difficult thing to change. NO additional hooks required. As for your issues, I believe MyFord touch only comes in English, French (for Quebec) and Spanish Nav only for North America, I really enjoyed the SAT radio in Canada but the sat used do not cover Europe. DRL lights up only the front head lights (not parking lights) and power is reduced. Here in Finland it is law to have front and rear lights during day and night which in mid winter is 24 hrs of darkness and mid summer is 24 hrs of daylight. For now I use the auto light setting and taped over the sensor. You may want to consider a change to the calibration to get the benefit of the higher octane fuel here in Europe 95E here is the same as 92/93 in US and Edge is calibrated for 87 US. I purchased and installed a Hypertech Max Energy programmer http://www.hypertech.com/ Also in Germany, I guess the ability to remove the 180 km/h speed limiter may also be useful?
  11. Here are some pictures of the door mirror lights from http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/product/Stick_On_Amber_LED_Indicator_Pair_LEDA9 I think the 2012 production units are the best choice but this is by far a much cheaper option.
  12. Will do but its -35.C outside at the moment. It does not mention and I only noticed when I received them that there is one LED at the end nearest the cable that directed at 90 deg from the others so if you rap them around the mirror as I have done, the final LED directs towards the back of the vehicle. This is actually a requirement in Europe so the flasher can be seen from someone behind you. The lamps flex and bend quite easy so its easy to fit to the curve of the mirrors.
  13. I had to fit side turn signals to my Edge when I brought it back to Finland to meet the regulations. Other than the option to drill a hole in front fender and install a turn signal lamp from a European Ford or after market, I looked for LED's that could be fitted to the mirrors. http://www.cbsonline.co.uk/product/Stick_On_Amber_LED_Indicator_Pair_LEDA9 This is what I went for and they actually don't look too cancerous. I stuck them on using the 3M tape strips provided, to the black plastic section of the mirror in line with the painted part of the mirror and threaded the wire through with rest of the door mirror wiring and then feed to the front turn signals. Being LED, the resistance is so low that it does not effect the vehicle system diagnostics.
  14. The tyre profile is the side wall and it is the percentage of the tyre width. But to push the vehicle forward, the tire needs to flex in order to push and the higher the tire wall the more it can flex and push. A wheel with a rubber band around the outside would not transfer the power from the wheel to the road very efficiently. This is why tyre pressure is also important, not enough pressure is bad as it will increase the rolling resistance and this resistance will give poor traction efficiency. And too high pressure will reduce the rolling resistance but the hardness of the tire will reduce its ability to flex and reduce traction.
  15. For sure the power to weight ratio is important in acceleration but the wheel and tyre physics plays a big part, unsprung mass (wheel and tyre weight), coefficient of friction and slip angle (tyre grip) effected by the actual tyre profile and in this case, it is the profile which I believe makes the most difference as this has a big influence on the grip. The lower the profile of a tyre, can to a point improve handling in a corner (as long as you don't go crazy low) but for improving traction and transferring the power from the tyre to the road, the lower the profile the worst it gets. Its to do with the slip angle or contact patch and a the lower the profile you go will reduce the contact patch which can be compensated a little by going wider, its about getting the right balance. Depends on whether you want to only go in straight lines (drag race) or want to go around a track with high corner speeds.
  16. I found this option for my Edge when I brought it back to Finland. http://www.kilpipaja.com/paja/Taustalevyt.html The one you will require is the long plate plate.bmp I also used one on the front as I previously did not have a front licence plate.
  17. Sorry to get you excited Coyote66, my only intention was to show what it could look like, if only it was as easy to make the real thing as it was to make the picture.
  18. Here is what it would look like on a 2008, not sure it would fit to a 2011 edge raptor.bmp
  19. Hi, I have brought my 2008 Edge Limited back to Europe after working in Canada and on my model, I did the following 1) Separate the front turn signal/parking lamp by add a white 5W bulb as the parking to the headlight and move the wire from the turn signal. 2) Add side turn signals which I did by adding LED strips to door mirrors 3) Add rear fog lamp 4) On 2008 model, there is only one wire for brake and turn function and inspection centre exempted the need for yellow turn signal for rear but its not impossible. With some relays and resistors you can take the brake control from the centre brake lamp and feed the turn signals from either the control unit or simple the front via a relay. Add yellow bulbs to reverse lamps and wire as new turn signals and then add a reverse lamp like the addition of the fog lamp. 5) Last thing was to stamp the VIN to the frame near the engine bay. But if you are purchasing a new Edge 2011+, already has yellow rear turns so only need to make front parking lamps white, add side turn signals, rear fog lamp and stamp VIN number. One last addition I made was to purchase a MAX Energy power programmer from Hypertech to improve the fuel economy from running european standard 95 E fuel which is equal to US 92/93.
  20. Yes, I purchased this CD and its very good (the real deal), however when I received it, it did not include the wiring diagrams as mentioned on Ebay. I contacted the seller and he sent them electroncally
  21. Have been running on E95 10% ethanol since arriving in Finland and after adding the Hypertech calibration for "premium fuel", fuel consumption dropped about 2 l/100. Does not seem much but around town driving I was at 16 l/100 and now 14 l/100 and on a run at 100 km/h I am at 8.
  22. Anyone driving their Ford Edge further north than 66° 33′ 44″ (Arctic Circle)? I purchased my AWD Limited from new in 2008, when I was working in Canada but I have now returned with my Edge to Rovaniemi, Finland which is where the Arctic Circle starts. I guess that maybe someone in Alaska may be further North but Edge is not sold here in Finland and I think I may have the only one up here. It turns some heads as no one knows what it is but the 1.6 euro/litre gas (about $2.25) sucks and no sat radio reception either.
  23. Could I be the only Ford Edge owner in Finland? Have been in Canada for 3 years and just returned with my Edge. Just changed engine calibration using a Max Energy Power Programmer from Hypertech as the Edge is calibrated to run on 87 AKE (equal to 92RON in Europe) and standard fuel here is 95RON. Calibration changed to Premium 92 AKE (about the same as 95RON) and fuel consumption has improved. The Hypertech also allows to removal of the speed limiter which may be of interest for those of you in Germany.
