12 Speakers?

Recommended Posts

I couldn't figure out why they count 12 speakers either. Must of been looking for the 2 missing speakers for half hour when I first bought the car. A 2 way speaker is 1 NOT 2.

Also didn't like fact that an almost $50k car doesn't have a basic alarm system. I asked 3 sales people in 2 different dealerships and a manager. They all assured me the car comes with a basic alarm system. I was really upset after I got the car.

How can you be upset? It's an awesome vehicle. So useful in so many different ways. Try smashing one of your windows if you don't think it has an alarm system. The 2 way speaker is actually 2 speakers in the same spot. Think of it as combining your high end tweeter (that's in the windshield column) and your low end woofer (front door) into one speaker.

You must be a hard core Ford fan or it's your first car. How is this car useful in so many different ways than any other car? Is it the buggy MFT? Is it the slow to a halt vista roof? What's the difference from this car and say Nissan Murrano? I do like how the car drives, but it's only a year old so we'll see how it will be in 2 years.

By the way a 2 way speaker is 1 speaker. I don't believe any other car manufacturer advertises it this way. My Infiniti also has 10 speakers and 2 of them are 2 way. When you go to a store to buy home speakers and they have a tweeter, a midrange and a sub all in one speaker cabinet, the speaker is sold as 1 not 3.

FYI unless you have the Driver Entry Package in your Edge, there is no security alarm.

Don't put words in my mouth. Your Edge is a very useful vehicle in so many different ways. I didn't compare it to anything else. If you wanted a Murano you should have bought one. Slagging Ford because you expect it to deteriorate in 2 years makes me wonder why you even bought one in the first place? Yes, the MFT was buggy, but once you install the update it becomes a much quicker system with a better layout.

A 2 way speaker is one that has two separate drivers in which to produce sound, thus can be counted as 2 speakers. I don't like it either, but having cranked my sound system to several different types of music I am thoroughly thrilled with the sound it puts out.

FYI All Ford Edges come standard with the SecuriLock Passive Anti-Theft System.

Sorry, I didn't understand what you meant "the vehicle is useful in many different ways". You didn't give an example. Is it the MFT? Is it the nice vista roof? For today's standards MFT is a cool system to have. Unfortunately, it's not working well for me. I didn't get the update yet here in Canada. Still waiting and waiting. No I don't want to download it because I need the NAV card too. In any case it should have worked near perfect from day one.

My previous cars were Honda, Toyota, Infiniti and Lexus. Never had so many issues from day one. The reason I got Ford Edge is because of MFT and I like how it drives. Unfortunately, Ford disappointed me with MFT (the main reason as to why I got the car).

Knowing the history of American cars regarding reliability and service, I don't expect for the car to last trouble free for more than 2 years. This is not only my opion, but everyone I know as well. I still bought this car because I liked it more than the Murano, hoping the quality will be there. Also it's made in Canada :)

I still disagree with you regarding 2 way speakers. This is because no other car manufacturer that I know of advertises it this way. You are right however, the sound is pretty good for a stock system.

SecuriLock Passive Anti-Theft System is not an alarm system. If someone breaks your window or breaks into your car, no alarm will sound. I have a 2011 LTD AWD and my car didn't come with an alarm system unless I also got the Driver Entry Package (comes with Alarm, push button, lift gate and car starter). That's in Canada. I don't know how it's sold in US.

The MFT problem is unique because it's a software problem and car companies are not good at writing complicated software. Now that it appears to be stabilized and mostly fixed that won't happen again. Your opinion of American mfr quality is outdated. You can't use anecdotal evidence to say a mfr is good or bad - you have to look at overall metrics. Overall, Ford quality is very good and in some cases better than Honda/Toyota/etc. The problems that ford has now are typically engineering problems with one part (or software) or a batch of bad parts. Hubs and wheel bearings are a prime example. Early 20" chrome clad wheels was another one. All mfrs have these kinds of issues if you look hard enough. Toyota had engine sludge that they tried to blame on the customer and Honda had transmissions that would explode at highway speeds. Stuff happens.

MFT was a bigger fiasco than normal due to the length of time required to fix it and Ford deserves all the blame for that. But in the end it's only one issue and it has been stabilized and mostly fixed and won't happen again. Same with most if not all of the other known problems. Once they're fixed they don't reoccur which is different than having a vehicle that just wears out or has a new problem every few months.

Car companies are not really writting the software. It's done by a third party. In Fords case it's Microsoft or some company affiliated with Microsoft. They did a poor job, and Ford still released it. I'm hoping after my upgrade I can really enjoy the car. For now it's just frustrating.

My opinion of American mfr quality is outdated. I think they did start making better cars recently, and that's why I bought it. However, the mentality is still there. People associate American mfr being unreliable and bad service. Everyone I know were suprprised that I went from an Infiniti G35X to a Ford. I don't like when someone asks me what car I drive now, yet I like the car.

All true and Ford deserves all the blame for that. It's easy to say they shouldn't have released it and I don't think they would have if they had a good alternative. They designed the 2011 Edge around MFT without a backup plan (again, their fault but that's water under the bridge). So the alternative would have been to simply not offer MFT at all which also means no Navigation option and no Sony radio for 18 months. So they gambled they could stabilize it within a few months and the damage would be limited. It didn't work out that well but at the time I'm sure it seemed like the most logical path.

Again - I'm not absolving them of blame but given the alternatives after the mistakes were made I think they were in a lose-lose situation either way. The only good way out would have been to switch back to the older navigation/sync version but that just wasn't possible.
