dfatz
Just purchased a fully loaded 2016 Titanium. Excited! One of the only features not included is the factory trailer hitch. I would have liked a basic one just for bikes and maybe a small, light boat. Dealer said it would be $1400 to install as it requires moving the sensors the foot activated liftgate, etc. I wondering if anyone has gone down that road, what it costs, and any caveats/words of wisdom? akirby
I'm about to on a 2016 MKX. I don't think the factory hitch requires moving any sensors but it does require replacing the bumper piece where the hitch sticks out, or cutting the existing one. Dealer is probably hedging his bets if he's never done one before. I'll let you know what I find out.
dfatz
Thanks. The dealer said they just did one the week before. But I never really trust the dealers and their costs. Glad to hear how it goes with yours.
AFMom
Date - I had the same issue when I purchased my Edge Limited with just about the same quote to install a hitch for our cycles. I took it to a great hitch company in Dallas and had a full hitch receiver installed rated for up to 3000 lbs towing. Have never used for towing but have securely carried up to 4 road cycles over 4 states. The cost was $300.00. If you go the aftermarket route, make sure you research the company installing the hitch.
akirby
After a bit more research I think a hidden hitch may be the best option.
dfatz
Thanks for the good info. Picked up the car yesterday. So far so good. No rush for a hitch so I'll wait it out for a while.
Brucifer
I was thinking of adding a hitch to my '07. Checked with U-Haul and they wanted $400 out the door. Not the same as a foot activation, but I'm not in a rush to get it done either.
akirby
Just ordered a Hidden Hitch for $163. I installed the same kind on a 2014 Escape so it shouldn't be too bad.
