Deepa
All, A friend of mine has alimited awd Edge. Has over 330k on it. Looks great, runs great. Trans slips and bangs. Still driveable. He bought it for 1000 knowing the trans was on borrowed time and it needed misc stuff like brakes and wheel bearings. I need to know the procedure to remove the transmission. I would use jack stands. Transmissions can be found for decent money with 100k on them. It appears like it's not too difficult. Looks like the cross member/cradle comes out as one whole piece. Engine looks to stay in the vehicle. The transfer case (ptu?) has to come off right? Exhaust from after the manifold all the way back? Thoughts? Looking to save him some money. Quoted 3k locally. macbwt
Just unhook everything and drop the engine and trans as one unit by unbolting the sub frame. It should all drop out as a modular unit. Then remove the front cover on the engine and replace the timing chain, guides and water pump. Then install the new transmission.
