Faint rattle in front suspension

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

2014 SEL with 28,000 miles.

I live in Oklahoma and there are quite a few dirt/gravel roads still around. Our daycare center is on a dirt/gravel road. I have noticed recently that there is a very faint rattle noise that sounds like it is coming from under the steering column while driving down the road. It only seems to do this on this type of road or really bumpy roads. It doesn't matter what speed I am going. I tend to drive around 20-25 mph on the dirt road. I really hate driving on this road but it's our best option for daycare center.

I baby my Edge and I am concerned this may develop into something bigger if I disregard it. I also take it in on regular basis for oil changes, etc.

Should I take it into the dealer? I have an extended warranty on the car. Any idea what this odd sound might be?

Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Hey, How are you. I too am a new Edge member/owner. I also have a faint rattle coming from my front suspension area. Not sure if this will help, but may be worth a try. Mine seems to be worse when its colder. I think mine is coming from my brake pads/ brake system. I did a test while driving on a road with a few bumps. I would drive normally and listen for the rattle, then i would gently apply the brakes to see if the rattle continued. If the rattle stops when you are gently pressing the brakes, it is most likely a brakes issue. If the problem persists even with the brakes gently applied it could be one of the front suspension components, that would be my guess. Anyway, hope that helps narrow the problem down. It has been a few months, so you have probably fixed the issue by now, if so I would be interested to know what you did to fix yours. Thanks.
