Auto Control Assistance Explanation Needed ...

Need some assistance on the auto control please ?  I start my 2017 Edge SEL with the fob in the early morning. Auto control is set to 72 degrees. Once inside the vehicle  I look at the control panel see the inside temp set at the 72 degrees and the outside temp is at 55 degrees. Why is my a/c light on? You can use your a/c with the heat on, it helps get rid of the moisture. With the settings you have selected, it automatically turns on the a/c to get the inside air temp to 72 degrees, whether the outside temp is 40 degrees or 90 degrees. 

 

If you're worried the having the heat on with the a/c will cause damage, you're not going to do any harm. It's perfectly normal. I do it all the time with my 2010 E-350 work truck & our 2016 SEL.

As stated above it dehumidifies the air which is then warmed to the correct temp.  Running the ac keeps the seals from drying out and actually extends the life.  It’s a good thing.

Thanks for the timely response. I feel much better about Auto Control function. My last new vehicle was your basic 2003 Ford Ranger and technology has changed a lot since then. My Edge and Ranger both run like champs. Appreciate the information. Good day !
