This bulletin supersedes 22-2376. Model: Ford 2019-2023 Edge Engine: 2.7L EcoBoost Lincoln 2019-2023 Nautilus Engine: 2.7L EcoBoost   Summary   This TSB supersedes TSB 22-2376 to update the model years affected.   Issue: Some 2019-2023 Edge/Nautilus vehicles equipped with a 2.7L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a ticking/tapping or rattle type noise from the top front cover area of the engine on initial start-up after a cold soak of 6 hours or more that may last for 2-5 seconds. This may be due to stuck internal components of the variable cam timing (VCT) unit. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the VCT units.   Action: Follow the Service Procedure to correct the condition on vehicles that meet all of the following criteria:   • 2019-2023 Edge/Nautilus • 2.7L EcoBoost engine • Customer symptom of ticking/tapping or rattle noise from the front cover area after a cold start NOTE: Dealers should only order parts for customer vehicles that require repairs. Because of part constraints, dealers may experience situational short-term backorders on some parts. Thanks Haz.  I have a 22ST with the 2.7 and posted this question below when this was initially published by you in December.  I still hear a fast clicking/tapping noise from my engine, but it isn't limited to when it first starts as it always does it......here is what I wrote below.....

 

I have a 22 ST with the 2.7.  I don't necessarily hear this tapping or rattle noise on start up, but I do think that the engine is a bit noisy when you are outside the vehicle with it running and standing in front of it.  It does seem to make a constant fast clicking noise all the time on mine.  I attributed this to fuel injection or something else "normal" as it runs smoothly to me.  It doesn't make any different noise the first 5 seconds than it does all the time.  I also wonder what the problem is if it only does it, as reported, for 2 to 5 seconds after it starts, is there really a problem?  Is it harming the engine?

Could this be the problem?  I realize this is a 2.0L Ecoboost in the video, but like he says, this rattle he refers to is not an engine problem it a turbo problem and could easily happen to a 2.7L Ecoboost.  Not sure if this is your problem but at least you can compare the sound.  HTH

This isn't similar to the clicking I hear all the time on my 22 ST 2.7.  Mine is a faint clicking from the top of the engine, and it occurs all the time.  I think it is just normal because it is the same constantly, not when starting cold or decelerating.

The noise described as "not detrimental to engine function, [having] no effect on engine durability, [and] an operating characteristic of these engines" in SSM 51465 - 2019-2023 Various Vehicles - 2.0L/2.3L EcoBoost - Light To Moderate Ticking Type Noise At Idle (600-700 RPM) is attributed to those EcoBoost engines' High Pressure Fuel Pump.

 

Perhaps it's that same component you're hearing on your 2.7L EcoBoost, as shown in the 2019 Edge Workshop Manual...
