omar302 Posted October 3, 2023 Report Share Posted October 3, 2023 On a 2016 Edge with Panoramic Roof, is it possible to open the Sunroof glass without opening the shade? Yesterday the sunroof glass broke due to a minor accident, a bus hit the a pole of a parking shade which cause one of the poles fall on the roof and brake the glass, it is a minor incident but will require changing the glass, however, I would like to be able to clean the broken glass pieces before rolling open the shade to ensure no glass shards get inside the sunroof mechanism and causing more damage or tearing up the shade. Wiring diagram support is limited, and I expect the Roof Opening Panel Module logic would need to be overcome using jumper wires to enable glass panel movement without a likely shade retraction limit switch being met -- but that's just a guess! Initialization procedure highlights use of drive motor stalling against hard stops rather than mechanical limit switch. Diagnosis and Testing highlights drive motor drive coordination... There is a communication circuit between the shield motor and the sunroof motor for back and fourth communication between the 2 motors only, and not for diagnostics. If the communication circuit between the sunroof motor and shield motor is open or shorted the sunroof motor will operate only to fully close the sliding glass, and the shield motor will not operate at all.
