bgerman
My Edge came with the 'towing package', with 1.25" receiver and 4 pin connector. To make it a real tow vehicle: Installer had to: cut off factory hitch, install new 2" hitch with 6-pin connector, install electronic brake controller, rewire connector and add wiring (at least one new wire from the tail light) for brake controller. What I DON'T like with the 2" receiver is poor ground clearance - 11". Would like to raise rear end 1-2". Not a lot, but it will make a big difference when off-road or towing. Motorcycle carrier drags bad. Coil springs, I think. Can you buy a spacer? I don't know what I'm talking about on this subject. See photos. weasel
and you'll end up with rubber inserts. They are terrible, they fall out and they are hard on the coils. Get a proper spacer made. Aluminum works well. I haven't looked at the coils, but I am sure it can be done. I had a buddy make a set for my VW and it works great. In case your wondering, Jetta's & Golf's of my vintage have terrible ground clearance ( 4.5" ). The lowest point is a cast aluminum oil pan. Skid plate and a lift and all is well. Better in the snow too !
