Third Battery in three years

Hello friends,

I've been a long time lurker on this forum, and have found lots of the advice very helpful!

I have a 2010 Edge Limited, 2wd. Basically it seems like every summer my battery goes bad. This is my third battery, and after having to replace it today, I started wondering if anyone else had this problem, and if so did you just live with it, or is there a heat shield or something I can install that will keep this from happening? It seems like the battery takes a huge amount of heat in the engine bay, and that is causing the battery to over heat and then leak everywhere.

I invite any and all thoughts. Thank you so much for your help.

I have a 2010 SE AWD and just replaced the Exide (12/2017) battery in June. I have never had a problem with the battery leaking at all.

You probably have an overcharging problem.

I have replaced the alternator twice. The first time with a Wilson (BBB Industries) rebuilt which started giving me trouble after 2 years. I replaced it with a new Motorcraft.

What battery are you using and where did you purchase them?

High ambient temperature won't cause the "leak everywhere", but over charging will definitely do that.

If you have a multimeter measure the resting voltage and then the charging voltage with the engine revs at 2000 or higher - the charging voltage should be around 14.3v and anything higher would be an indication that its overcharging.

BTW, is there any chance that you have a remanufactured alternator installed?
