Fishingandfordenthusiast Posted July 26 Report Share Posted July 26 I have a 2022 Titanium 8F35 (8 speed) automatic transmission, 2.0 Ecoboost 4 cylinder, with 59,000 miles. Recently I noticed that my car’s steering has been stiff at high speeds (over 50 mph) but totally normal at low speeds. If I turn the wheel back and forth a few times, the steering becomes normal again. My first thought was that my CV joints could be bad. I checked my CV joints and the boots are not ripped and appear to be in good condition for a car with 59,000 miles. What should I check next? enigma-2 Posted 19 hours ago Report Share Posted 19 hours ago (edited) This would indicate a failing Electric Power Assisted Steering torque sensor, or a binding lower steering shaft U-joint. At highway speeds, you make very small steering adjustments. If the torque sensor develops a dead zone due to wear in its center position, it stops reading those small movements and the computer fails to provide steering assist. This would make the steering wheel feel sticky. When you move the steering wheel back and forth, you move out 9f the densird center position, allowing the computer to read the signals. .
