We built some production protos this week of some 2008's. I quickly went through a mandate list of some of the changes: A few new colors.....a very dark metallic blue, light metallic blue and a new silver. White Chocolate will be available on the Edge. Power liftgate optional on Edge Suspension tweeks on all models with some revised spring and strut rates. Voice activated navigation 20" wheels optional on MKX. Apparantly as far as I know it's a completely new color. It's so dark it looks like black until the sun hits it. I'm pretty sure it will be available on the Edge and MKX as 9 colors will now be shared between the Edge and MKX. I'm quite sure the only color that will remain unshared is Blazing Copper. The revised spring/strut rates might help braking slightly but I highly doubt it.....the change is most likely due to customer and reviewer complaints of the "floaty" ride both vehicles exhibit at highway speeds. As I said....there's a whack of new changes.....most are small engineering refinements and many are appearance related. And yes....there is now a "Limited" model for the Edge. Or better yet just catch up with current way of doing it and put the antenna in the glass so there is no mast at all. That would be great..... I'll be getting a 2008 now that my 07 got stolen and burned last week. That was a sad day. Nothing like the cops calling to say that they have recovered your stolen car.....However.....It's been damaged! Yea...damaged....Burned out, is more like it !!! It's amazing how different the same color can look look under different settings. The Murano is obviously a photo by Nissan Marketing on a sunny day. The Xterra by a car dealer's pic on a rainy day. Nissan also has a Majestic Blue shown here on the Altima. I like it but it really only looks a tad bit darker than Ford's Dark Blue Pearl Clearcoat Metallic. Jorich919 Posted May 15, 2007 Report Share Posted May 15, 2007 I see an awful lot of talk about apperance/convience items (power liftgate, SYNC, HID, etc.) for 2008, yet I still read a lot here and in professional reviews about something that is still not being addressed by anyone from Ford. I am not the first to ask this, but I will ask it again....... What is Ford doing about the brakes?? I read about a tweeking of shock and strut rates, and I agree with an earlier post that that might help, but clearly Ford needs to address this with more radical changes than that. It may frustrate Ford that people like me review stats like "60-0mph stopping distance", but the 2007 Edge takes about 30' longer to stop from 60mph than most of it's competitors. It may sound like I am nitpicking, and I am sure many Edge owners have never felt a problem with the brakes, but that might be because thankfully they have never had to make an emergency stop. That 30 foot difference could be the difference between a serious accident and avoiding one altogether. I own a Mazda6 and have driven my friend's CX-7 a few times. Both of these cars stop on a dime. As the parent company, Ford should take some cues from Mazda. All of that said, I recently rented a 2007 SEL AWD and drove from NY to FL for a 2 week vacation. The car drives great on the highway, but I still don't know why Ford is addressing a complaint of a "floaty" feel on the highway, versus the much more serious and talked about brake issue. And thankfully, I didn't need to make any emergency stops either, but I did give them a real hard test when I was alone in the car, and they did feel a bit weak. The Edge also gives a hard nosedive in hard braking, as reported in other posts. Ford......hold off on the geeky and techno changes....fix those brakes!!! Shouldn't safety be Job 1 ?? I think you're confusing 70-0 times with 60-0 times. Motorweek says the Edge and MKX take around 145 ft (give or take - don't remember exactly) from 60 while the competition is in the 130's. You can only get down to 120's with a X5 which isn't the competition. It looks like they had to compromise the rolling resistance of the tires for CAFE compliance and that's being fixed for 08. Seriously, I have to agree with Jorich919, Ford needs to address this. I've moved on to other things in the meantime assuming they are likely addressing the issue for 2008. I already passed on the 2007 Edge due to the brake issue even though the earlybird lease turn-in program would let me out of my 2005 Fird Five Hundred right now. I was all set to do it too but the brakes were a deal breaker for me. My wife's 2006 Explorer stops in 125 and weighs 458 lbs more than an Edge so don't quote me stats on other CUVs that take 140 plus feet cause that's no excuse. The Edge should be able to easily obtain 120's from 60-0 given it's weight and anything less with today's technology is simply unacceptable. I'm like a 8 time Ford owner. I have deep customer loyalty but safety is the one issue that will turn me away. One improvement I think Ford is doing about the brakes is switching to better tires. But that should probably be only 1 of a 3 or 4 pronged approach to improving them in my opinion. The brakes is this vehicles only real weakness. It would be a colossal and I mean COLOSSAL mistake for Ford to sit back and do nothing on this issue. I'll state openly right now that if Ford can't at least get this to stop in less than 130 ft from 60-0 than I'm buying something else and probably not a Ford. Maybe a Nissan Murano or Mazda CX-9 although I have't done the research yet. Yes I know they cost more but that's how strongly I feel. I rather they jack up the price of the Edge by $1000 for the '08 model and give it best in class brakes. Look at this and tell me you don't have concerns. The Edge quite possibly has the worst braking in recent history of all CUV's and SUV's alike. Can we once and for all drop the premise now that the Edge has braking similar to all it's competition? I expect the 08s to be back in the 130's. Braking could very well improve with the new tires. One of the engineering changes is dropping the Continental brand of tires. I forget what they are being replaced with but one of brands will be Michelin. Brakes could be getting changed.....I'm not sure as I didn't read very much of the mandate booklet that outlined all the new changes. Braking improvement could be made by simply changing the brake pad compound and if Ford is planning a change, that will likely be how they do it. I am anxious to see if the few "missing" items I want on an Edge will be available for 2008. In the mean time, I drove a black/black MKX with Ultimate and Elite packages for the last 3 days while my car was being serviced. It was very nice.
