DVD file format?

Recommended Posts

Hi, new to this site and I hope I'm not repeating but I couldn't find anything in the forum.

We just brought home our new 2010 Limited with navigation 3 weeks ago. (LOVE IT!!) I have already added an 8g flash to the 'hidden' USB mini port (USB2) in the back of the center console that is used as an extra sort of Jukebox. Saved me tons of time in copying cd's to my HD and all the tags are dead on.

My next question- is there any possible way to play my digital movie files through the usb port? Somewhere I read that some sort of harness could be used to add an external dvd player that could be shown on the navigation screen. Wondering if there is anyway to convert that harness input into a USB type of connection. And even if that could be done, would the unit play a video file such as .avi, or .divx, etc? Is there some video format that is played by the unit. Other than putting the DVD in the unit?

Thanks for any input!

Michelle

No chance. The USB is part of SYNC, the screen is part of the Nav system. There is no physical connection between the two so you can never pass data from the USB to the Nav system. You might be able to do something with the backup camera input, but then you'd only be able to watch your DVD while driving in reverse.
