buckwheat1977
I just bought a 2007 Edge and want to put a hitch on. I think I will buy the Curt as recommended on other forums. They are $140 from my local Fleet Farm store. How about the wiring? I see underneath in back there is a rectangular plug mounted straight up from where the hitch would be. Is that a factory trailer wiring plug and all I have to do is buy the right harness and plug it in? I see other wire splicing trailer harnesses available that I used before and are not much fun to install. Thanks in advance.
Scorpio
I have the factory setup and that's the orientation/where the wiring plug is on mine.
kjholsop
I put an OEM hitch on my '07 MKX and OEM wiring as well. The OEM wiring kit had me run power all the way back from the battery into the controller. The dealer did not show a plug and play as I would have liked. I also purchased the Curt wiring kit to use their T socket wiring for the taillamps instead of splicing. Sorry if this doesn't help you as I'm not sure if the Edge would be the same. ablb
I used this for wiring. Part # 118430 http://www.hitchmart.com/commerce/productsearch.jsp Works, easy DIY. The instructions (DOES) call for a wire run to the battery. I didn’t, I took power from the power lift gate, you should find some 12V somewhere besides the battery. The way they show running the wire probably wouldn’t be that hard todo. ab
DunePearlEdge
Do any available kits not require a line run to the battery? I'm looking at the Curt kit and it looks likes it requires a line run to the battery. http://www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Ford/Edge/2007/56067.html?vehicleid=20079123
LONGDISTANCEMKX
If you only need trailer lights you can wire all that at the back of the vehicle, if you are wiring up for trailer brakes you have to run power from the battery.
LBE
I just popped my tail lights out and spliced in my lights. Only a small utility trailer, no trailer brakes or anything.
