  1. get the sport, you will love the 22s and get some good slippers for your winter travel times, if you see snow. I am fortunate that I only get heavy rain in south florida. But AWD helps on those days.
  2. I agree on the AWD. It feels just fine. You dont notice it being any slower. Even though I am not trying, I am usually the first car pulling away and everyone falling behind. I dont race or jump lights but the pull is just fine. I also like to look at the left monitor display to see the actual pull of each of the tires. There is picture of the vehicle with a bar graph depicting each wheel when you step on the gas. You can see when the rears actually engage on heavy acceleration or on sand or on gravel, etc. I like to see when the car changes from FWD to AWD. 90% of the time the car is in FWD.
  3. Tony, Just wanted to chime in. I have had my sport for about month now. I have NO issues at all with the vehicle. Yes, the screen is a little slow WHEN compared to a LAPTOP or PC. Please understand that there is not 1 car at 40k that will have PC style reactions IF they even had this amount of information on their screen. I am POSITIVE that Ford will only make it (software) better with the time to come. This is NOT a 1 off car. This will be available in many, if not most, Ford vehicles in the years to come. Wilsons66604 said, "Also consider that this forum is most likely not a complete cross section of Edge owners. You're going to get posts from people who only report the bad stuff." This is somewhat true. People love to complain. Not many make a point or the effort to praise something. So, I will help the others change the stats. I am a former BMW X5 4.8l V8 driver. Had all the bells and whistles. Now I have the Edge Sport. I am very satisfied, especially at half the price. Yes, I miss the 50 extra horses a little and the V8 sound from the pipes, but my wallet weight now may be the reason for this car being somewhat slower off the line. All joking aside, I am very happy with my new car. The tech is nice (and I am a tech guy). Yes it will get better with time. Just watch how many manufacturers will try to catch up SOON. I am glad I made a choice to by American (North American, not forgetting my good neighbors to the North).
  4. I also had HIDs for years now. I have a sport now and I am satisfied with the lights. I dont know if I would switch to a limited just due to the light issue. I think you will like the other features that the sport offers more than a light change. If it bothers you that much then you can always retrofit something for your lease term. I prefer the paddle shift and tires and bigger engine over the lights. good luck with choice
  5. That looks great. Get those front windows tinted and you are ready to cruise. Enjoy it.. I do.
  6. So far I am seeing about 18 MPG on a Sport. Mostly local and some highway. It is about even or just less than my old BMW X5 8 cyl engine, but now I use Regular fuel instead of premium.
  7. Sure, If I understand correctly, you are asking how to use google maps, find a spot and then "send" it to your phone. ok here we go. 1)open a browser to maps.google.com 2)in the search maps box, type in a store name with town and state or a complete street address (lets use 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, washington dc) you should get this pic 1 below 3) Now click on the A bubble teardrop on the map OR on the left pane OR the address itself and you will get a POPUP bubble with information. you should get this pic 2 below 4) Now click on more IN THE BUBBLE you should get his pic 3 below 5) Now click on SEND and you get below 6) Now click on CAR, you will see the picture below. 7) Enter your car type (Hint: Ford), type in your area code and phone number to your cell phone that is registered for services at syncmyride.com 8) Hit send and you are done. Now take phone to car and see previous post to continue.
  8. first send the data (maps) to the phone via the internet. This will send the data to the main server so that when your car calls in it will download the location note: your phone must be setup in the ford site to do the TDI get in your car with your key and turn on engine or just the accessory power. once your phone syncs with bluetooth, click on the "i" information icon in the center bottom of screen on the left choose Sync Services. select button to "Connect to Services" the phone will dial an 888 number and almost immediately say, "google has sent you a location......" or something. If you selected a business, ie CVS/Pharmacy in Anytown USA, it will speak the name and location to you. then it asks if you want to download the location information, You say YES it downloads and send the information straight to your SD Nav screen. ONLY 1 step left. Select the lower left button "Set as Dest" begin driving...... good luck
  9. Here are the pictures of the original lugs w/ 1 Ford Lock nut AND the gorilla locks on all.

  11. Yes, they fit great. As you can see from the pictures they are a little shorter than the standard lugs and much shorter than the Ford style lugs. I will post some pictures tomorrow so that you can see how they look on the wheel. At first I was scared that they may be too short for the screw but they are just right. They look great, the are much shinier than the factory non-locking lugs. They are solid steel and triple chromed. IMO, they are worth the small price to pay for the protection, while looking better than the factory stuff. Make sure you order the correct package. You can see the model # in the pictures. I think it was the top line on the side of the box. No vibration.
  12. The only advantages for the hotspot wifi network FOR NOW are you can park near an office building or store while waiting for a meeting and suck the wifi for internet access (if open and no security) you can use your phone internet to broadcast to passengers that might need the internet. AND you could let your kids play xbox or something to distract them while you drive them to the psych clinic for gaming addiction rehab.... once the browser is released, it will have some more application but I cant see how good it would be to surf on the touchscreen except for quick searches for store stuff or directions(?) or phone numbers, etc. I would still boot the laptop or use my phone anyway. What would be cool is if you could integrate some cool apps (map tracking family, friends), syncing stuff from the internet (home pc) to the car (kind of like using push data). It will probably take some time for that stuff, but a development package for users would be good. It wouldnt be something Ford would do or be expected to do (they build cars, not software). Open it up for us software people to write code for like my andriod or iphone, etc.
  13. OK, The Gorillas have arrived. I will install them later today and test drive quickly. I have taken some pictures of the box set. FYI, I purchased them thru Amazon.com. That was the cheapest at the time. They seem to cost more again, everywhere. I paid $40.62 shipped. I have checked each nut to make sure they all fit into the socket, before I start any install. They are all fine. I was upset to see, that they were all inside one ziploc type bag instead of some blister package. They just need to be rubbed down and polished then installed. I have also taken some pictures of the difference between the three different types. The standard lug nut from Ford. The Ford locking lug nut. The gorilla locking nut. The weights are 48g, 66g, 57g, respectively.
  14. I happened to catch his opinions on the car maters. It did make me laugh too. I saw that the USA today article also noted his last words, "a BOTTLE of milk". I remember when I was about 10, I saw a milk man deliver a BOTTLE of milk to my house by accident. Now that he has put down smarter cars, internet connections, gps, streaming music, emailing, texting, and phones, in one single segment; I don't think he will have anything else to talk about.
  15. Yeah, it still sucks in terms of quality and more importantly PRICE. This isn't something that I wanted my GRANDMOTHER to sew together for me; but that is what we bought and got. The rest of the vehicle is great, I have almost all options available and they are really working good. I am shocked that with such a huge rebuild and changing that the cargo cover was just thrown to the side in some meeting. CHECK out the competition, they all have real retractable options. That is what I paid for, not what I got. The web marketing group is not stupid. They never had a picture or demo of that feature. Only online with us can you see that. I bought what my BMW had and other manufacturers make for a fair amount of money. What I got was a tent with bungie cords. Argh, sorry venting again. I am sure it is fine for most users. I use it everyday and it is getting worn out already. I guess my expectations were just so much higher for the price I paid. It was a hard call since no pictures or descriptions were ever made public.
  16. Yeah, there is a small vibration using ford locking lug set. I was washing the car this weekend and while working on the wheels, I took off the locks and put the regular nuts back on. There is NO vibration. When the new nuts get here, I will report how they work. Each nut is a locking nut and is identical, so there should be no weight difference.
  17. I think you misunderstood. The car comes with regular lug nuts. I had the regular lugs on there, then put the 4 locks on that are the regular FORD branded lugs. They are giving a small imbalance. I have the gorillas in shipment and will replace ALL 20 lugs for gorilla locking nuts.
  18. I will say that putting only the 1 lock on the tires and with that lock lug having a higher weight DOES present a small inbalance. The tires are so big and already have ALOT of weights on them from the factory. But they were balanced good before. I recently had alot of brand new blacktop put down in my area. The road is as perfect as you can get and only 3 weeks old at this time. So from driving the 5 miles of new road and the subsequent 140 miles each way, I felt a slight wobble. This is something that I do not want to live with so I will be seeking a lock solution that has all lock nuts. This will give a consistent weight and best protection solution.
  19. Thanks for your input. Which locks are the ones that you say are the worst. It wasnt to clear. Are you recommending the gorilla ones? And the ford ones are not good?
  20. I was just looking up what a replacement wheel cost for the Sport. They are $1,370 plus change (US). Make sure you get locks for your new wheels. You do not want to buy a replacement wheel. I ordered the factory wheel locks on ebay for 15 bucks. They look good and are only slightly larger (longer) than the regular lug nuts. They weigh about 20 grams more than the regular lugs. I hope it doesn't throw the balance off on the wheel. I just put them on and will keep notice of the performance/ I have a long commute tomorrow driving down to Key Largo, so it will be a good test. If they do wobble then I will get a complete set of locks like gorilla locks. They have a set where all lugs are locks and they look good too. These will keep the balance good, since all lugs are the same. Here is the ford info on locks. Chrome Plated For Exposed Lugs Part Number: 7T4Z-1A043-A You can pick these up at the dealer or on ebay or somewhere like that. http://www.fordaccessoriesstore.com/GfaWeb/catalog.do?prodInfo=Edge~2011~7T4Z_1A043_A Gorilla Automotive Products http://www.gorilla-auto.com/the.system.new.box Part Number: 71683N - fits Ford Edge 2011
  21. I really like the remote start. I live in south florida and it is still very warm here. Yesterday, I was at a client office and was looking out the window from the office from the 23rd floor. I said what the hell, lets try this thing out. I opened the rear hatch from 23 floors up. Sweet. then I closed it again and then did a remote start and got in the elevator. Was nice and chilly by the time I got down to the car. The distance is very nice. BUT it does scare me if people keep hitting buttons by accident and it reaches the car. I noticed attached keys do really hit the fob too much, so since day 3 I have no keys attached to the fob anymore. I am looking for a small leather pouch or something that this can swivel out of OR something. If anyone is a handy person with leather, I have a business proposition for you. It is a needed option.
  22. There are two mufflers and individual pipes from engine, but only 1 cat. It may be a 2 in 1, but who knows. here is a pic for you too examine. You will see the difference between the 3.7 setup on left and 3.5 engine setup on right.
  23. couldnt you purchase some smaller wheels with snow capable tires that you could put some traction stuff on if needed.
  24. thanks Akirby, That is where I remembered something from slightly. It was so long ago I forgot about the fuel shutoff and effects. I remember taking the car for the test drive. I touched the gas for a second and it jumped forward and then it was like an engine brake. I thought, this is no super-car, why would the engine be geared so tight to use the engine for braking. It did it a couple more times during the test drive since I was not use to this car yet. I was just trying to coast and it was like a diesel truck downshifting a gear to slow down. (that may be an exaggeration but that is what I am trying to describe to all). It was noticeable to me immediately, but I didn't know what it was. Now I know. Don't know about the other models, but the Sport is noticeable when you let off the gas and the fuel thing kicks in. I do not think the engine shuts off. Even the manual doesn't say that completely. It would be interesting to find out if it does shut off.
