  1. From an engineering or physics perspective, I wonder if it could be a physical connection issue. I copied this from another website, "Recall that all materials are made up of atoms. At any temperature above absolute zero (-273 degrees celsius) the atoms will be moving. In a solid they will be vibrating in fixed positions, in a liquid thy will be jostling past each other and in a gas they will be whizzing past each other at very high speeds. When a material is heated, the kinetic energy of that material increases and it's atoms and molecules move about more. This means that each atom will take up more space due to it's movement so the material will expand. When it is cold the kinetic energy decreases, so the atoms take up less space and the material contracts. " take from http://www.physlink.com/education/askexperts/ae40.cfm so, maybe the connector is just a fraction to far from a proper connection or the pc board is not manufactured properly and loses connections. Temp does affect materials. This would possibly explain the problem and why not all users see the problem. On another note, I feel bad for anyone having to endure the low temps outdoors.
  2. They are definitely NOT bottoming out. I was worried about that myself and put the car on a lift, so that I could try to shake the wheel. No shake. Then I took the wheel of and did some measuring. It is fine. The lug is shorter but fits fine. The cheap factory ones are just cheap lugs that they use on many models.I like the fact that they reside inside the wells of the wheel and don't poke out. Plus the cheap ones will not get or keep a shine. Nice car, slick paint, great detail sparkle, crappy lug nuts with no shine. No thank you, I prefer the safe and good looking gorillas (and they fit just fine). As for the spare, I think that when I looked at the spare tire, it was a standard steel wheel. I haven't measured the difference in width of the spare to the normal wheel, but until I do, I will put 5 cheapy lugs in a paper towel and on top of the spare. Can't be too safe, or Murphy will bite you.
  3. After a nice wash today of my black on black sport in the super cool and freaky chilling 72 degree day in Florida, I used for the first time Menzerna Power Lock Polymer Sealant. I only did the front left qaurter-panel, it was getting late. It will now wait in the garage until tomorrow for the sunlit reveal. From what I can tell from the spot lights in the garage, the sealant is ALL that and then some. Super slick, quick and easy to apply, easy to clean off. LOOKS GREAT compared to hood under the spot lights. Thanks for the advice on the product.
  4. Jpelt is correct in last post. Yes the paddle shifters are ONLY on the sport model. The Limited has the shifter version (the sport doesnt have the shifter buttons). it doesnt matter what screen you have the left display on, when you shift it will go to the tach screen and show Mx where x=gear.
  5. I just wanted to add a note, even though it might have been in the previous posts but this might help clarify. When in D and cruising at say 50 mph, the car will probably be in 6th gear. Now you want to quickly pass a vehicle, so you hit the left paddle (downshift) or the button if you have that, and the left screen goes to TACH, shows M5 for manual fifth gear and you pounce on the gas. If you ease off the gas after passing OR continue at the same new speed the car will automatically go back to 6th gear and the M5 vanishes because you are back in full automatic mode. It is very useful for passing or street light yellows (if you drive like that). If you wish to control the up and down shifts entirely, you must be in M.
  6. Hey Buzzman, I am also in South Florida (Boca). I also have the sport with AWD and glass roof and all. Wonder if you would be interested in a meet, so that I could give it a quick spin. Since I am all stock and have been driving it for 2 months, I should be able to tell a real difference and report so. Interested?
  7. Glad to hear your happy for the most part. I am also in SF and have black on black. It is fine in terms of heat. Get that remote start working and you will never get in a hot car again. Also, if you have the SD card nav in your car then it will sometimes tell you your final destination location on left or right. It depends on if it is registered that way in their database. I usually tells me, "your final destination is 200 feet on your left" or something like that.
  8. I was not surprised to see some features missing or inactive. It is completely normal for software systems. I think new features will eventually come out and integrate devices more and more. Fords big declaration is to use everyone's technological devices to integrate them into the car. I believe what we have is a very good start, but not a finish line to say the least. The integration issues are mostly on the phones side right now. The phone developers must have the proper protocols in their devices before anything can connect to it. You will have many more new phones before you get another car. Your next phone will probably have FULL functionality as it is actually used now by other devices. Standard growing pains in tech. Also, it is not like I live in my car. It would be nice to have a cool 55 inch 3D LCD screen in my dash too, but I have a house and a wall in my living room for that. It is just a car, it gets me from point A to B to C and back to A. then I pick up the remote for my tv and a keyboard for my computer. I will survive with my Sprint EVO for emergency surfing on the internet until a slower browser comes out for my ford. We all want what we dont have, but the day the browser is out for myTouch, I will run and install it, then play with it for 2 minutes, and then go back to my living room. If I need my car to remind me of birthdays, then maybe I shouldnt be driving yet. It would be nice to pull up all my calendar events for meeting though. That would be helpful. Address navigation integration would be nice too, havent really looked for it yet. I enjoy driving my car, I somewhat like washing and polishing the car, but I definitely am not marrying my car (probably because now it can talk back to me and tells me to make u-turn all the time).
  9. I hate to curse myself, but I have had a very trouble free vehicle so far. It has been almost 2 months, over 2300 miles and no problems. The USB issue mentioned above sounds like it could be a loose connector. That whole usb, sd card, video bar would connect with one cable back to the computer or whatever in the dash somewhere. I would have the service techs start with that.
  10. Before you bash something, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS. there is a film on the FRONT and the BACK for protection. the clear film is on the tacky (sticky side) and the pink in on the side that is exposed to you. Read the instructions, then read my item a few lines up and you will have a PERFECT and CLEAR and NON scratch surface. Do you really think that they would sell you a pink screen? Give it another try, then call them if you are still unhappy.
  11. Hey Buzzman, saw your pics. The intake really looks nice. How much did you spend on it? You said you were in south florida, I am too and also have an 11 sport. I cant wait to hear what your benchmarking might show. You said the intake was custom, where from?
  12. Hello Everyone, I am sorry it took me so long to write back on the installation of my screen. I had purchased the LARGER size (I dont see it available anymore in the drop downs). Anyway, The screen film covers the ENTIRE screen and goes under the corners and just over the plastic border. After a good cleaning with the vendors supplied wipe and a cleaning with their little blue cloth, I gave it a good blast of compressed air from an air can to remove any residual dust. My film didnt come with the tabs that some people mentioned, but it did have the one side with clear plastic and the other with pink plastic film. I pealed off the clear, then angled the bottom left corner into the bottom left under the rounded corner. I then questimated the level using the bottom plastic and bent in the film to complete the bottom, leaving the three other corners outside the plastic surrounding cover. I then started the top left corner and let it slide under the plastic cover. Then walked the film pushing air out to the right. Next peel back the top right corner just a little and put some scotch tape between the pink film and the protective film WITH THE STICKY side towards the pink side. Now put the bottom right corner under the corner. Then the top left corner. Now slowly start to peel back the pink film AND looking from an angle look for air bubbles, if you see some, put the pink back and with your finger work the area of the bubble to the closest edge from middle of screen out. Then peel the pink back again looking for more bubbles, each time a little further, getting rid of bubbles along the way. Dont scrape with credit card on the protective film, just use your finger on the pink plastic. It will work just fine. When it is all done you should have a perfect fit with no bubbles. I cannot see ANY edges of the film. The edges are all under the plastic. If you are one for small details I recommend getting the larger size. It looks STOCK and not like an add-on. My pictures were really blurry for before and after and I dont want to post them but I did post a picture of my ordering packing slip and the bag that the film came in, so you can see part numbers and all, if you want to order this spec. Also look up my earlier post for additional information.
  13. Drove my 500 miles this weekend, all flat highway and the average is still at 20.5 at around 75 to 80 mph. This is on an AWD Sport. On regular gas.
  14. It works on USB stick. I have a 32Gb stick in there about 80% full. It is fine.
  15. dont know if this product is good or not but it is an available option. http://www.carid.com/2011-ford-edge-lighting/notto-hid-kit-77434.html
  16. I think you nailed it there Wilsons... boot baby boot.
  17. First, the corners rounded so that is not a good location to measure. I used the middle of each screen axis to measure. I came up with 176mm X 107mm. When I placed my order I chose the Ford, Sync Display 178 x 108mm (will list description below from the order email returned to me). ORDER DETAILS: Item: Special1 Quantity: 1 Description: 177 x 107 DayVue for Ford Sync Display 178 x 108 mm R16200035800000 Special Offer: Klear Screen - 1.99 Film Type: DayVue You will see that it looks like they are sending a 177 X 107. This will go under the corner plastic, so it might be a little tricky to get all 4 into the corners properly before sticking. I will detail the install pains when I actually get the film and install.
  18. also locking via the door keypad (two buttons on right simultaneously) will turn off the 8" monitor
  19. Just thought I would mention that I tried to do the update for 1.3 that was in the syncmyride update site. Previously, it would not accept the update report. Today, it rejected it again several times. Then I closed my Mozilla Firefox browser and opened up MS Internet explorer. When I went to the update page it installed an applet and would then accept the update file report. So if you were trying to do the update in a browser other than IE, it might have been failing due to the browser you are using without a properly registered applet. Give it a try if you have previously failed attempts and use a different browser.
  20. Couldn't find the old forum that was about the MPG, so I started a new one. I have the Sport and am at 1100 miles total. Today I travel 98 miles round trip on FLAT highway the whole time. My average mpg was tripped to 0 and when I got up to my destination it read 19.5 mpg average. When I got back home (reverse of trip up) it was NOT reset to 0 and the final MPG read 20.1 mpg. I drove 70-75 mph the whole time up and down. This shows a slight improvement to my old stats of 18.x while the engine only had 350-400 miles on it. Its getting a little better, lets hope it keeps improving. I have a long road trip coming up on Friday and back on Sunday. 3.5 hours each way. Will test it again and report. What are you other seeing?
  21. Hmmmm.....they gave you the old loose connector explanation.... Hmmmm Mine does the same thing, BUT i have never programmed my entry key fob to the memory setting and that could be why it just stays all the way back. I dont really care because I usually leave the seat all the way back anyway. If I am on a long drive then I usually move it forward a little for comfort. I will have to crack the book or read the tricks forum again to program it. Just never find the time.
  22. I ordered the larger screen after measuring with calipers last week. I will post some pics before and after when it gets here and is installed.
  23. It happens to mine sometimes too. At first I was surprised and that I was getting a blind spot or something. Nope, just another undocumented feature. If you cycle the screen to the next set of presets and get back to the original, it is back. Feature still works, so hopefully it will be a soft fix.
  24. Excellent find. I thought about a display cover but never searched. I ordered the larger size. Also wanted to inform everyone coupon code KPR%10 gives you a 10% discount. Not much but helps pay for shipping.
  25. This is a guess to attempt to answer the software versions question asked a few posts ago. Being a software guy, Ford will most likely have only 1 version overall. The option menus are very extensive. You can customize it for any territory, Canada, US, Europe etc. Not that it is offered everywhere but it is configurable. The only real difference is the km vs. miles on that issue anyway. The Nav SD card would be NA North American or EU for Europe (if offered there), etc. Display languages would be a consideration and would probably be a feature added to the software in future if they every did go to a different area not currently offered. These are all simple things. The bigger item that affects the system speed is how much information is actually displayed. There is a ton of stuff going on when you are on a particular screen. All the other items like temp, music are still running in the background when you are in the phone display. So the processor is still multi-tasking. Between a possible weak processor (or overburdened processor) and the fact that it is working of solid state memory makes it a little slow. The video processors may also be overburdened. Dont know if we will ever know what the hardware specs are, unless you have a crow bar and alot of money to get it fixed after your inspection. I am sure that the software issues (km v. miles) will get fixed. I am sure that we might find some other small stuff and that they might optimize some speed issues. Regarding the update version and all. When you get your car, you can log into syncmyride.com and register your vin. It will tell you what software is loaded in your car and what updates are available for you to install yourself via a usb stick. Some upgrades may require dealer install. It will keep track of your versions via a file that the car makes on the usb fob and then uploaded back to the website. No realtime link from the car to the website or Ford. I only wish that Ford would give a list of features tweaked or upgraded on the software upgrades they offer on the site. They currently dont explain what each "patch" does or fixes. Ford is new to the world of software, user updates, etc and so are most car buyers. This is the first vehicle of its kind with all the tech stuff. There are enough tech guys/gals on the forum to help anyone in need. We should all stand behind Ford (an American company) in their efforts to bring us a car one step closer to the Audi in iRobot. I am surprised at Ford and very proud of what they have done.
