  1. UPDATE: Correction - this will not work in the SE, as it does not have illuminated vanity mirrors, so there is no power already going to the visor. Sorry for any confusion. Hello all, A few weeks ago I got a 2011 Edge Sport, and I love everything on the car, except I just couldn’t stand having to keep a remote transmitter clipped to my visor for the garage doors after having HomeLink for 9 years now. So after about a week on the phone with my dealer’s parts department, I finally was able to order a visor from the Limited Edge with HomeLink built in. Ford doesn’t want you to do this, and they’ll tell you it wont work, but just order it from fordparts.com yourself. Click this link, and scroll down to the two that cost $311.17. Pick yours based on whether you have the vista roof or not (“less sun roof” or “with high series open air roof”). Keep in mind that you will have to do a little bit of disassembly to install it, and you’ll need a special torx screwdriver (not sure of the size). So, here’s what you have to do to install HomeLink in your SE, SEL, or Sport. First, slide a small flat-head screwdriver into the slot of the cap that covers the visor mount, and slide it toward the windshield to pop the cap off. Then, you’ll need a torx screwdriver to unscrew these screws. Once you have the visor unscrewed, you’ll notice the plug is hidden behind the headliner, and you can’t pull it out. You’ll have to pull out the top half of the A-pillar cover (it just snaps out and back in) and then pull down some of the headliner (only the A-pillar and the black molding are holding it up at this point). From there, you’ll see the green clip on top of the headliner, but it’s glued down. I have rather large hands, so I used a flat-head screwdriver to pry it off of the headliner. From there, you’ll have enough slack in the wire to pull the plug out through the visor mount. Now it’s straight forward. Unplug the old visor, plug the new one in, tuck the wires back in, tuck the headliner back under the black molding, pop the A-pillar cover back on, screw the visor back on, and pop the cover back in place. Viola! Your Edge now has HomeLink. Follow the standard instructions in the manual to set it up. This makes me wonder why HomeLink isn’t included, especially in high-end models like the Sport. Oh well...hope this helps.
  2. I LOVE IT!!! The exterior alone absolutely blew me away the first time I saw it! The paint is just stunning. Add the contrasting tuxedo black grill, and THE most beautiful wheels I've ever seen, with accents that match the grill, and this is one sharp automobile. Than add all body kit, the oval exhaust tips, and smoked light lenses...it's simply amazing, and I can tell by the looks I get. This is probably one of the best looking vehicles I've seen in a long time. I love how everything compliments everything else perfectly. Grill and wheels top it off. And the best thing is, I love the interior and technology just as much as the exterior! Love the contrasting leather seats! And the color scheme on the dash looks really nice. I can't get over how quite it is! My old Honda was obviously extremely noisy, so I was blown away by the quietness. Love the intelligent access, vista roof, BLIS, power liftgate, automatic wipers, backup camera, ambient lighting, quick release rear seats, and surprisingly the fold-flat front seat already came in handy! I think it's safe to say I love everything about this car. I absolutely love MyFord Touch. Obviously, there are a few issues, but for me it's nothing major and nothing out of the ordinary for brand-spanking-new software. Today my main screen went blank for my drive home, but I could still control everything through the redundant screen and the voice commands and the next time I started it up, all was well. No big deal. Only thing I'm having trouble with is trying to call from my phonebook with voice commands. I'm hoping this is fixed in an update, but as of now I can still dial by calling out the number. Again, nothing major, and nothing I don't expect to be addressed in the updates. Overall, I love the technology, plus the sound system sounds great! The thing is fast...I haven't given it more than half throttle, and I probably won't until at least 500 miles, but man, she'll get up and go! Ford also did a really nice job tuning the suspension for those beautiful wheels. Gives a sport feel and feels great around the turns, but is not overly stiff over the bumps or on the highway. Nice! As of now, I'm just waiting to see what kind of fuel economy numbers I'll see. It'll take a little while to get some accurate numbers though, because I spend so much time just sitting in it, playing with all the new tech! I posted some pictures of it here. Overall, as you can tell, I am absolutely thrilled with this vehicle. Also, I have a new driver's side visor with HomeLink on order, and I'll (hopefully) be installing it this weekend. I'll take pictures and report back on how easy that install hopefully will be. Enjoy your new rides!
  3. I had to show 'er off to quite a few people at work today... And a worker collecting baskets in the home depot pulled out his phone and snapped a picture :shades: Who woulda thunk? An SUV that gets so many looks...I love it!
  4. You're right, Akirby. He called back today and said after talking to someone at Ford, he found out the one he was pricing does not have homelink. The one he finally ordered today, with homelink, is ~$315. He also told me the guys at Ford told him this couldn't be done, but he personally thinks it won't be a problem. I don't see why I wouldn't work...but if it doesn't I'm out $315. Should get it on Friday and I'll install it some time this weekend.
  5. There were no locking lugs in or on my edge when I picked up, but I asked my salesman about it and he said, "Oh sure, I'll give you a set." So I don't know if he's supposed to or if he was just being nice.
  6. Wow...and I thought my 8 weeks were agonizing! 20 weeks...I don't know how you did it! Anyways, congrats and enjoy!
  7. I've tried that a few times, but it still does the same thing.
  8. The service guy at my dealer finally did his research, and he shall be ordering the visor with homelink soon. He said the regular price is $100, but he'll give me a small discount for the trouble I had to go through to get it. He also said since it's such an easy install he'll just give it to me and I can install it. I'll let you all know how it goes.
  9. Finally got my Edge!! It's the Sport model in White Platinum Metallic paint, FWD loaded with everything except the DVD entertainment system. Ordered on 9/20 and received on 11/13. I absolutely love it! It looks stunning, rides like a dream, is powerful, quiet, comfortable, and roomy. Love all the features (intelligent access, vista roof, BLIS, etc.). Upgraded from a 10 year old honda so it's quite the upgrade! Only problem I have is I can't get sync to recognize my voice commands for dialing contact names. All other voice commands and everything else in MyFord Touch works perfectly. I love it! Here are some pics. :shades:
  10. Just to note, I'm completely thrilled with this car so far. Everything else has worked absolutely flawlessly. I have an old iPod that I'll keep in the car, and it works fine, and the MyFord Touch system is fantastic. The voice recognition impressed very much by its accuracy and quickness of response. Granted, I've only had it for about 10 hours now, but in the past 10 hours I've probably spend 7 in the car. I'm only having this one issue but I do believe it may be something I'm doing wrong, or perhaps some type of setting. Not to mention that this car is a lot more than the MyFord Touch system...this is an absolutely fantastic car, even without considering the great new tech. It's beautiful, comfortable, powerful, smooth, quiet, and feature-rich. Ford really built an excellent vehicle. I'm afraid that this forum is causing us to wait for our systems to malfunction rather than to simply enjoy them. Yes, there is trouble, and Ford is working it as we speak. I'm sure they already know of the many problems and are trying to work as quickly as possible, but maybe they learned their lesson and are taking more time to get it right this time.
  11. It's an iPhone 3GS. However, I also tried it on a regular non-smartphone samsung phone, and got the same results. It's like it doesn't recognize any of the names that are stored in the phonebook.
  12. Hello all, I got my new 2011 Edge Sport in White Platinum today! I absolutely love it! Looks simply amazing! Rides great and all the features are wonderful. I love the voice commands but cannot dial a phonebook contact by voice. All other commands work; I can control the climate, navigation, and audio and even dial a number by voice. It all works fine, except contacts. When I say "Call John Smith" it just says "please repeat" or something of that sort. I can say "call" and it'll say "say a name" but after that, it won't work. All my contacts are synced to the system, and I'm saying it exactly as it appears. I know the contacts work because when someone calls me, their name comes up on the screen. I even tried using a different phone, but had the same results. Any ideas of what could be wrong? Thanks so much!
  13. The wait is pretty agonizing though...perhaps it's best to just let things be and not try to follow it as much. Convinced my salesman wasn't telling me everything he knew, I called the trucking company (cyberdman told me it was on the truck) and they told me it was delivered today! That was about half an hour after I called my salesman...So I call my salesman back. No answer. I call the main line of the dealership. Receptionist says my salesman left for the day!!! This is like 2:00.... So, I have to wait another day because my salesman decided to give himself an early weekend. I know it's just one day...but it's just sitting there!! Definitely won't be getting much sleep tonight... :hyper:
  14. 1. Calm down. 2. Find a new dealer. You act like everyone is having this problem...you're the first person I've seen on this forum with this bad of a problem. I'm no expert (by any means) but this sounds to me like a hardware defect.
  15. Ditto. This whole two weeks in shipment (to Louisiana) thing is driving me crazy... Mine has been at a distribution center three hours away since Monday. It's waiting to be taken off a railcar and put on a convoy. Salesman just said it looks like it'll be next week...but it's only three hours away!!!!! I hope he's wrong...
  16. What you're likely referring to is the date the order was submitted to the factory. My edge was built roughly a week after that date
  17. A few things you have to remember about MyFord Touch.... 1. It was designed to be updated...fixes will come, likely (hopefully) before your edge will come in. 2. Forums like this are places for frustrated users out there to come and vent...that's the sole reason why many join. People love to complain, so if they have a problem, they find a forum to vent and to look for a fix. So, the number of people having problems on this forum is not an accurate indication of the percentage of all edge owners who are having problems. That being said, I wouldn't worry too much about your order. The problems will be fixed eventually. I also wouldn't let that stop me from ordering if I really wanted the new edge, but that's just my opinion.
  18. I figured it would be. I haven't heard back from my dealer yet... If I had a part number I would just order the thing and install it myself.
  19. Welcome! Those 6-8 weeks....well, they're not exactly going to fly by <_< I'm on week 8 and am expecting it this week... :happy feet: This forum made it a little easier at least, and I know the wait will be worth it! Congrats on your order!
  20. This is exactly what I was thinking. I think my dealer's service guy just doesn't know too much about this. I assured him the limiteds have homelink in the visor. He told me to get him the VIN of an edge that has the homelink in the visor, and he'll order the part as if it were for that edge. So I searched the inventory of another dealer and gave him the VIN of some random edge limited. Hopefully this works. :stats:
  21. I have an Edge Sport being delivered this week, and I'm trying to figure out how to get homelink installed in it. I have no clue why it isn't standard, but anyways.... So I was under the impression that the Limited models had the homelink module on the visor (never looked in the one I test drove, but I assumed this because my dad's F150 is this way). Can anyone with a Limited confirm this for me? If this is the case, I was hoping to simply order the visor from the limited model, swap it out, and call it a day. Of course, it's not so simple with my dealer....First the service guy says he can order the visor but they can't install it. However, he is now insisting that no Edge has homelink in the visor, but instead the Limiteds have it in the mirror. So, he can order me the rearview mirror with homelink, which Ford sells as an accessory, and have that installed. I'm pretty sure a visor would be cheaper, and I want to be like a factory job, not an accessory. So, has anyone with a sport done this yet? All help is greatly appreciated.
  22. Hopefully this fixes lots of the big problems everyone is having.
  23. This is so exciting!! :beerchug: I'm going from a 10 year old honda to this, so it'll be quite a nice upgrade. It's currently 3 hours away at a distribution center and will get on the car carrier tomorrow to make its way to the dealership!! Hopefully I will take delivery Wednesday :party2:
  24. Yeah, it does seem like the white is the most popular color on the sport, and pretty popular on the regular edge as well. But the sport overall is a tiny minority of all Edges, so we'll just be the majority of a tiny minority. And I know this baby will turn heads, so I'll take it.
