  1. Update Update!!! Hello fellow Edge Forum readers who have had trouble with Sync...today my car returned from the dealer and I was told this is the super latest update that "just came out". They could not give me a version number (they are not software people in the service departments of dealerships). I wanted to share my impressions just after one day of what I had been experiencing (I was running a version updated after the recall earlier in 2011). Here is the list of problems I have had/hated the most and if they have been addressed: #1: Before: Sluggish use of MANY functions in MFT within the first 2-3 minutes after car start. Previous symptoms consisted of no voice commands, seek button on steering did not work (buffered for response about one minute after press), etc. After: :happy feet: AMAZING improvement here. I was able to use voice commands as soon as I wanted to (about 20-30 seconds after car start) and the seek button worked. I will test this more when I have a chance to try to use the nav system 30 seconds or so after startup (in the past...not possible) #2: Before: Backup Camera would work in the first 20 seconds after start, but then not work for a couple of minutes (again back to the 2-3 minute after car start stuff). After: :happy feet: The backup camera worked every time I tried it within the first few minutes of car start. Huge improvement here. #3: Before: Real funky BlueTooth (BT) Audio with my iphone 4. Flakey, did not always connect. I often found the BT audio use seemed to destablize my whole MFT requiring a "Fuse 29" pull after a week of regular BT audio use. Often had to turn on/off BT on phone to get audio to work (phone always worked). After: Solid BT Audio! After multiple car starts I was able to get BT audio to work quickly without issues. This is huge for me as I love BT audio for listening to podcasts as you can use the phone to control the stream and do 2x speed and such. #4: Before: Generally slow screen response to normal use. I understand the screen tech is not as "instant" as an ipad or similar, but still screens seemed sluggish to refresh (i.e. after a "zoom" button press on nav system). After: SNAPPY screens! The refresh of a nav screen after a zoom was notably faster. I was quite impressed. Overall getting a screen change result after a press (even just the home or menu button) seems faster and snappier. Well that is must my first impression after driving this afternoon and tonight (and listeing to a bunch of BT audio!). Based on this alone I would encourage you to hit the dealer and make sure you have the latest update. I will post a reply after a whole week of use to see if my first impressions hold up.
  2. Wilsons, you get bonus points for the best profile picture on the Edge Forums!! :happy feet: Fuse 29!! ROFL!!
  3. Welcome to the joy of Edge ownership! It is a great car and I love mine. Though the MyTouch/Sync is still uber-unstable. I often have problems with the BT myself, as well as lock ups, problems with the Nav system, etc. It just seems as weeks go by the system gets unstable (does remind me of Windows). In fact, every 2-3 weeks I end up re-booting my sync system by pulling fuse 29 to get it back to stable. In fact, just today it totally locked up and it had to re-boot. As the engineers did not design a way for us to reboot our systems, we are forced to pull fuse 29. Pulling and reinserting this fuse will force a reboot of the system Sync system. This is evidenced by a Sync screen with a boot-up like progression bar. It says it is doing "planned system maintenance" or some such thing but it is just a reboot screen. No data is lost with this fuse pull reboot. This gets my system back to normal...for a few weeks. You can find many references to Fuse 29 throughout these forums (that's how I learned!) The service department said a month or so back a big patch was coming...so hopefully that will bring more stability to the Sync/MyTouch System.
  4. The over all responsiveness of the touch screen I think is an issue that has been noted in various places. There is a slight "touch delay" when you compare to other touch screen devices you use (iPad, iPhone, Droid, Xoom, etc.). I find you just have to get used to leaving your finger on the screen an extra 10th of a second or so to ensure it registers. After a while you just get used to that rhythm of touching the screen. This is I think "the way it works" (was designed) and is just awkward if you are used to instant touch reaction from other devices. I note it is way worse in the first two minutes of operation as the system boots up. I almost don't notice it any more as I have trained myself to press and hold that fraction longer (without pushing "harder"). On the bright side the included cloth really does a great job cleaning the prints off of the screen.
  5. Turns out I am on the most current version and Syncmyride is not up to date. I called my dealer to inquire about the update and said that I am on the most current version which was the one that went out for the recall. He said they are working on a new one that should continue to improve and address the issues in a few months (just in time for the next oil change). Hopefully this is the one someone above mentions they brought Microsoft experts in for.
  6. V2.4, so indeed another update awaits my next trip to the dealer! Manual? Kidding....never thought to look at that. It makes sense though, but you think it would just "hold and resume" once the engine was running. Interesting someone else says they don't have that issue. Oh well, very minor inconvenience. I have just learned to dawdle a few seconds (like buckling my seat belt before I start the car) and all is well. Still a ton of pluses and just a few minuses after 6 months of operation...would recommend a 2011 Edge over many other crossovers I have driven! Amusing Story: Had someone in the car today and the cross-traffic went off as I backed up and had to explain it. Then I said "Now that I think about it, this car really tries hard to make sure NOTHING hits it" (as I realized the back up camera/beeps, Cross Traffic, Blind Spot indicator, Collision Alert and adaptive cruise means this car really works pretty hard at keeping anything from hitting it).
  7. I have been meaning to come back (have not checked here for a while) to update folks on what I am finding. I have not heard there is a new update, so I will have to get that and see if it helps. Here is my main list of issues I still encounter which are unacceptable : - Inconsistent BT streaming from my iphone 4. Works most of the time, but then does not others. I use the BT audio more the than the cable. - No contact photos from the iphone 4 (just annoying because it is touted in EVERY brochure and web photo for the car). - Lots of glitchy lockups and hangups...resulting in the need for force a re-boot by pulling the wonderful fuse #29. - Generally laggy touch-screen touch response. Real hit and miss...especially if you are used to other devices like an iPad or Android phone. - My biggest complaint, and it seems to have gotten worse recently, is the slow response time during the first 2-3 minutes after start up (I assume due to background boot up time). Voice commands don't become available and most functions you may want the second you get in the car (navigation, phone and voice commands) are of no use. It is very frustrating at times when I need to set a destination while zipping away right after startup and you need to know directions quickly. The radio always works...but the seek button on the steering wheel does not if you want to change the channel in the first few minutes after starting the car. - Oh, and this may not be sync related, it drives me crazy that if my liftgate is closing but has not latched when I start the car, it makes the liftgate go back up. I always have to remember to hear the click before I push the start button. Only an issues if you have the automatic lift gate. To be clear, I do love this car :happy feet: . I keep finding little wonderful engineering and design touches and enjoy driving it every day (I drove the Lexus 350 when shopping and still feel the 2011 Edge trumps it in a ton of ways). The overall design of the mytouch is great, especially the left/right LCD's flanking the speedometer...which often are faster and easier than voice command and you don't really need to take your eyes of the road to change/use them. Ford got out ahead of the competition on this type of dashboard tech, but at the cost of too many bugs. We are used to bugs in our phones and PC's, but we are not tolerant of them in our cars. If anyone from Ford reads this: Please be sure that besides software improvements you consider upgrading all of us 2011 Edge owners with updated hardware to improve the system performance.
  8. Hit the red corner, then USB (or the name of your USB device when plugged in). From there, I think there is an "Options" button in the lower right. From there you will find (I think after a scroll-down) the "use grace note cover art" with an on-off button. Make sure it is off. Good luck! I still find with my iPhone 4 that some cover art won't come through. My suspicion is the graphic size. I don't think the system auto-scales pictures to fit and I think some cover art is not "normal size" (just a theory..never followed it up). Enjoy your Edge! I love mine. :shades: (PS: Cool feature that is not well publicized: You can send a destination from google maps (in a PC Web Browser) to your Car's nav system via Sync. Very handy.)
  9. I used to have the same issues with Bluetooth until I got the software update a few weeks back. If you have not been into the dealer to get the big update, you should do so, and that likely will solve your BT issues .
  10. I took my Edge in Saturday and two hours later, they had the update done. It is a LONG update, so consider carefully having reading material or other entertainment! Verdict: GREAT UPDATE Here is a list of what I was told and found out so far from my own use: - They told me "fixes 90% of the problems" (three different folks said this, so must be in a memo!) - System seems to boot faster at car startup - Backup Camera works better/faster - Beeping on cross-traffic (as Amy noted) now...be nice to have a visual on the screen but I like the beep! - BEST IMPROVEMENT: Bluetooth Audio WORKS flawlessly with my iphone 4!! I like better often than USB as I can control a podcast better from the phone (I use 2x speed a lot). Also, kids like to watch movie on iphone or ipad in car and it is nice to get the audio out the speakers on occasion if I don't mind listening along :hyper: - Iphone 4 cover art works now via USB (not Bluetooth)! Before you only got "Gracenote Cover Art" if you had that switched on. Now it feeds all the art from my iPhone. Kind of cool. - Still no contact pics from the iPhone. Cool feature but not a deal breaker (kind of false advertising as they show this on ALL the adds and brochures). Bummer a key feature does not work with most popular phones such as iOS and Android. Overall I am happy with this one! I only found out this was a "recall" when I was at the dealership...never got a letter.
  11. I am taking my Edge in on Saturday myself...close enough for an oil change and they will do the update. I will post what I find out about what they are supposed to fix (I wish there were "patch notes") and how it works. I posted on older non-sticky threads about all the issues I have had and having to "force reboot" with fuse 29 several times when the system starts acting goofy. Mostly I am hoping for better bluetooth with my iphone and things like "contacts pictures" to work, the ability to "soft reboot" without pulling a fuse and faster response times in general and at startup. I wish us both luck.
  12. Since you brought up Google Maps...I thought I would mention a cool yet not well known feature: You can send a Goole Maps location to your NAV System!!! Steps: 1. When in Google maps on your PC (does not work on mobile device Google Maps yet), find your location. Say like the mall or the restaurant your spouse just told you to meet them at. 2. Then under the location detail you want to go to, you will see "More" (with a little triangle). Under "More" select the "send" option. 3. In the "Send" window pop-up, select "Car" 4. Then in the "Car" window, fill in the stuff (make sure you say "Ford" and use your cell that is tied to your Sync Account) and press "Send" 5. When you get into your car, then hit the voice button and say "Services" (or use the touch screen). Then from there, the Sync services should talk to you and say you have a destination from google maps and ask you if you would like to download. Say yes, and off you go...nav point downloads and your nav system takes over from there like normal. :yup: Very cool stuff!! If only the google maps on my iPhone had the "Send to Car" option...maybe someday.
  13. I am glad to see a "pinned" thread on MFT (My FordTourch) Problems. I was a very early 2011 LTD Edge owner (Sept. 2010) and had a LOT of issues with the MFT (mostly having to pull Fuse 29 from time to time to clear an issue and get the thing to work). If there is indeed an update now available by the dealer, can someone link what bugs this update is supposed to fix? Also, I don't see anything saying I need an update on "SyncMyRide.com". Would love to hear of folks who report :happy feet: joy and happiness after getting the upgrade/patch and no more bad issues before I try to get to a dealership. Thanks!
  14. Just thought I would throw in my comments and notes on MFT problems/solutions. But first: Overall..net net...I do really love my 2011 Edge LTD. There are many things I love about this car, and I won't go into it here other than I drove a lot of crossovers (including Lexus 450h, Toyotas and Honda Xtour), liked a lot of things about them but I picked the new Edge in the end. I have anti-buyers remorse and am so glad I chose the LTD over the other cars, enjoy my drive to work each day as I have never before. :hyper: The MFT was one of the things that put me over the top with this car, as it was the most progressive and modern driver interface I saw on a crossover. It appealed to the techy in me. Then being an early adopter of a new Microsoft OS based product bit me... And now to the rant and details: The MFT, when working, has been great (nice design). But there have been many times it has NOT worked. Here is a summary of what has not worked: - 2-3 lockups in the first month (almost weekly..as if the system just gets tired), usually using the nav, and auto-soft reboots (thank goodness). - Poor pairing with iPhone 4 (I think this is the phone though) But last weekend a major glitch occurred where all BT connectivity would not work and you could not pair any phone. After this, many more problems started occurring such as no shut down/start up (no ford logo thing). So no phone meant no hands free, no sync, etc. Even the Sirius screen would show "no signal" in the middle of the LCD when there was lovely music playing from Sirius. Then syncmyride this week said there was an update (yay), so I decided to go into the dealer (they said don't come in until some patches are released). Syncmyride was wrong and my car is up to date, so yippee joy the Ford site told me to take a wasted trip to the dealer to get an update my car already had. But I was able to show them all the MFT problems first hand (they have almost zero experience with the system so this was helpful for them) so that was something. The service folks were apologetic and said service all over the nation is getting hit with complaints and the dealers are "stuck not being able to really help" as Ford Engineering has not released a patch and the dealers have little to no experience with the system. My (awesome) sales person at the dealership commented I know more about the MFT than about anyone at the dealership as one of the first MFT customers they had. Then (this is the best part) I proceeded to tell the tech to please pull fuse 29 for me (I had yet do to his..planned to this weekend) to reboot the MFT. And "ta da" the MFT LCD reboots and all is working well again (no lost station presets or nav locations). The service tech was quite happy to know at least they can pull fuse 29 and reboot the system for a customer now to perhaps temporarily solve a problem for other customers! 29 was a good age...and now a good fuse to know to pull/replace to reboot your MFT/LMT. :yup: So for a week or so, I should have a stable MFT.....until the next glitching... Ford....please help us...we want to fully love our new Edges...helps us find the love with a glorious new patch to fix our MFT/MLT woes.
  15. Just an update or comment: First, thank you for the "warm fuzzies" on hybrids. I am over my hybrid laments. I did recheck the math on my second tank "manually" as was in the ball park around 21 MGP on average, with about 60-70% highway. I have reset my "instant MPG" to get pure highway and I can get real close to 25 MPG (unless I am going like 75-80 down the highway outside the city here in Denver then I am at 22). It is a little better now on subsequent tanks. I have decided I simply had the wrong expectations based on my old 4 cycl. 2002 Camry that got a solid average 28 MPG with the same driving patters. I suppose going to a V6 and heavier car, averaging around 21-22 should NOT be a surprise. Basically I really wanted a car like the Edge that gets 30 MPG-ish and the only car that pulls that off is the Lexus 450h and I just liked everything about the Edge better (before including the price difference that will never be made up on the gas savings). So I am over it...the MPG is what it is and I do really love my 2011 Edge Ltd. all factors considered :hyper: (but for the MyFord Touch glitches, lockups and crap like that....but that is for another thread ).
  16. I have had my 2011 Edge LTD AWD for two weeks and have been getting around 23 on "pure highway" if I reset MPG when I hit the highway and drive 20 mintues to work at about 65 avg. Seems that on average overall (I do 80% HWY) it drops down to around 20. I am VERY unhappy with this but hope it gets better, as I do love my Edge. I have been driving it gingerly and using cruise, and expected higher MPG above 25 on the HWY. I decided this tank to reset the trip and reset the MPG meter...then I will calculate manually the MPG next fill and see how the Miles Driven/ Gallons to refill computes the MPG for the last tank vs. the system calculation. Hopefully it will improve over time. Part of me wonders if I should have been patient for the EB engine to come out before I jumped...but I do love the V6 (had a 4 cyl. Camry before and though not as punch, hit 28 mpg...I hate having gone backwards on MPG this much). But I love the Edge. Did I say that? If 2012 Edge has a hybrid option I shall cry
  17. Hello Fellow Edge Owners: First, I only just affirmed, tried and validated you can have Google Maps (From your PC) send a destination too your Sync/MFT/MLT. Very handy if you are at your desk, lookup that cool new restaurant, find it, tell Google Maps "send to my Sync Ford" and when you get in the car, hit Sync services and it tells you have have a destination, then pops it right into the o'l nav system. Nice! :happy feet: Now the question: I have tried to find out how to do this from my iphone and had no luck. Nothing on the main Google Maps App (or Mapquest app.). I tried Google Maps via the web rather than the app, and still could not get to a "send" function to appear like you can get on their main website when accessing from a full PC Browser. Has anyone had any luck getting a mobile app or accessed Google Maps from your phone's browser and gotten it to send the destination to your car? This would be even MORE handy than from the PC. :stats: Please post specifics on how you did this if you were sucessful. Thanks!
  18. I have had continued issues also with iphone 4. There are MANY threads on this. The phone functions generally work (but for contact photos which ticks everyone off). The bluetooth audio is spotty. It either works just streaming (volume only ) or just stop/pause/next/back on screen. Oddly mine reverted to "audio with volume control" only recently after I re-paired my phone. I have now had to re-pair my phone about 5 times in two weeks as it just "stops pairing" with the MFT. Twice while trying to delete my iPhone before re-pairing, it locked the whole MFT. It required a "car off for a while reboot" before I could pair it back again. Once I re-pair, it seems to work for a few days then get flakey again. Hopefully next iPhone update will help with BT flakyness.
  19. Ah!! This makes sense. I read when trying to import some pictures as the Wallpaper that if you have too high of a resolution photo, Sync displays as "black"/"nothing". I think it is not a stretch to think, based on your comment, that the contact photos must also be a certain (likely low) resolution to display. If I have a chance, I will add a "low rez" contact photo to a contact and see if it displays. UPDATE: It does not work. For any FORD Sync people reading this: Add photo scaling/downrez functionality to Sync so any rez photo can be displayed (contacts, wallpaper, album artwork, and anyplace that external files come into the system from a user's source). It is a little thing, but it makes customer's grumble when the happy smiley people in your brochure can see THEIR contact photos on MFT but real customers cannot. Important: I still love my Edge though, and this is one of a few small negatives vs. a huge list of "loves" for my new 2011 LTD! :shades:
  20. I have had my new Edge for a few weeks and I have an iPhone 4. It is not fully compatible true. USB connection works very well including artwork. Bluetooth streaming is working "bare bones" (audio streams with volume control wokring...full control of what plays is from the phone..which is what I expected). Phone functions works fine (but for contact photos) and voice commands are better than any car I have seen recently. But I believe the flakyness is an Apple issue more so than Ford/Sync. I had issues with my iPhone 4 and my old car's stereo too (where not so much with my 3G before OS4). So I would agree, not optimal for one of the top brands of phones on the market. I do hope though you do not judge an entire car purchase based on the fact some photos don't show up on a screen and the ipod won't index to your satisfaction. The 2011 Edge continues to impress me the more and more I drive it. Any car you buy will have something you don't like or is flaky in my years of experience. I have had "anti-buyers remorse" and am SO glad I did not buy the Honda Crosstour or the Lexus 450h or any other crossover I looked at. I am giddy like when I first got my drivers license and take every excuse I can to take it for a drive. even without "rock solid" Apple integration (yet). In all my test driving, I spent a lot of time testing how the car and phone worked, and even with this flaky stuff the Ford is better than most any other cars I looked at when you add up all the features (I looked at a lot).
  21. No sorry, not the ones on this thread to download (they fit perfect). I meant pictures from my camera I had on my PC. They were higher rez than the Ford screen and needed to be down rez'd. So if you try to custom import some of your own pictures, be sure to size them so the FMT screen will show them...too many pixels will give you a black screen.
  22. :stop: The ambient lighting only comes on at night I believe. I have lights set to "auto" and when it is dark (even in a covered garage during the day) the ambient lighting goes on. Does not seem to activate during the day, which is likely why you did not see it. Maybe, if you force the headlights on manually, the ambient lighting will go on during the day...have not tried.
  23. I tried the same thing as my "syncmyride" site said I too had an update available on my new 2011 Edge. I tried to updated it, but the car will not confirm the update when I went back to my PC after the install appeared to happen. :stats: I have exchanged a bunch of emails with the sync folks at Ford. They said my car is up to date (the site must be "confused") and I don't need to update anything right now. They indicated when FUTURE real updates occur, you will be able to update yourself via USB. This feels like the Sync folks at Ford are a bit behind with the new FMT/LMT equipped vehicles and the site. I hope they have updates soon...in just one week my MFT had locked and rebooted twice. I hate to say it (I am a Windows 7 fan), but just like a typical Microsoft OS...needs rebooting when it freaks out and has bad error handling. Very unsettling for the first car with new flagship MFT system.
  24. I now read up on how to do this and got it to work from google maps on my PC. However, if I try to use Google maps on my iphone (either the app or the browser/web), I cannot locate anywhere the "send" function to send it to Sync. Anyone had any luck using their mobile phone to find a location, then send it to your car?
  25. We can only hope between Apple, Microsoft and Google they will all update software enough to eventually get them to work. You would think the most popular phones on the planet (iPhone and Droid) would work with text messaging, contact pictures, and rock solid BT streaming on launch of the new MFT/MLT. The Dream: MFT will have an app that lets the touch screen just emulate the iPhone screen when you have iPhone connected via USB. A boy can dream the impossible dream.... Oh, I did finally post something on Apple forums on this as I could not find a thread...likely as MFT is so new.
