  1. I'm in the same boat...I'd love to essentially have the "parking light" setting (amber lamps and LED strips) on all the time as DRL, or at the very least the LED strips on all the time. Someone's got to get ahold of that software at some point...hackers unite!
  2. I've been wondering the EXACT same thing ever since I discovered the Google Maps Send to Car feature. It would be great to be able to do that from my iPhone. However, it's not because the iPhone doesn't support Flash...Google Maps doesn't use Flash, it's all asynchronous Javascript. It appears to just be a function that isn't exposed on the mobile version.
  3. You can, actually, set it to white and dim it. So enjoy!
  4. Well, I meant the ones that you (as the driver) can't see. I like the ones that are either on the outside of the mirror or on the body just behind the front wheel. I agree, the ones *in* the mirror are really annoying to the driver.
  5. That's a little cynical. Plenty of people use turn signals. I like side indicator lamps because if you're alongside a vehicle on the highway in their blind spot sometimes that's the only indicator you can easily see. More visibility on that kind of thing isn't bad.
  6. Whoa, whoa, don't go overboard on the details there. You can't turn it back on until when? You restart the car? What year is this Edge? Some cars I've had in the past have had a protection mechanism for the heated seats -- they draw a lot of current compared to any other electrical component, and would be automatically turned off after awhile (I think my BMW did that). Don't know why you wouldn't be able to turn it back on though.
  7. Well it worked fine for me with FireFox on my Mac. But it does use a Java applet, which can be touchy no matter what the platform (ironic, since Java was founded to be cross-platform).
  8. Oh one other thing...twice now, when I started the Edge up, the radio had reverted to an AM station (it had been on Sirius when I shut the car off). WTH?
  9. We just picked up our 2011 Edge yesterday and I noticed that discrepancy too -- no matter what we set the lights to using MyFord, they're always blue until you turn on the car. Seems like a bug to me. Wish they would always obey your setting.
  10. I'm sorry I don't have any answers for you, but I'm wondering the same thing...I'd like to give the SEL stereo a bit of a boost with just a speaker swap out so if you do it or anyone else does, please post about the results.
  11. We're picking up our Red Candy Metallic 2011 Edge SEL this week. To say I'm surprised I'm buying a Ford is an understatement. This is my first new car purchase. Back when I was a kid in the early 90s, my family had a series of Fords and they were TERRIBLE. We had an '86 Taurus that leaked everything it could possibly leak, an '88 Sable wagon whose transmission crapped out on the way home from a Florida vacation in the middle of nowhere and then died again the NEXT year in the same place (in the middle of the night...awesome), and a '92 Lincoln Continental that had 4 transmissions in 2 years. My uncle's family also had a number of Fords that experienced similar issues around the same time. We swore off Fords for good...I even bought everyone "Friends don't let friends drive Fords" license plates one year for Christmas. No one in my extended family has owned a Ford product in nearly 2 decades. Fast forward to today...I couldn't believe I was seriously considering it but when I first saw the preview articles on the 2011 Edge I was really impressed. The new Sync systems were one of the first things that hooked me, since I'm a gadget hound. I also have 2 close friends now working at Ford, and that combined with the fact that they didn't take any government bailout money put the Edge on our shortlist. Based on size, features, styling, and price, we narrowed our list down to the Toyota Venza, 2011 Kia Sorento, and 2011 Edge. When we went to drive them, we quickly crossed the Venza off because of the terrible driving feel and weird interior layout. The Kia was tempting, as it was a lot of vehicle for the money -- fully loaded it was less than our middle-line Edge SEL while also being a bit larger -- but the ride was not nearly as refined and the whole interior felt on the cheap side. However, an impressive effort from Kia considering where they used to be. When we drove the 2011 Edge my wife said she knew immediately that was what she wanted. We had to bargain hard on it though, but fortunately we got a fantastic deal. My family can't believe it, but we're looking forward to our new Ford!
  12. To answer your question: every SEL Edge I've driven so far has the rearview camera. It comes with one of the option packages that's commonly equipped on the SEL. Now to rant: Seriously? You get Driver's Entry package on the SEL in Canada? The lack of the Driver's Entry package option on the SEL (you can only add it to the Limited) in the US was one of the biggest sticking points for us on this car. We REALLY wanted the push-button start and the convenience of not ever having to take your key out to get into and start the vehicle, but it didn't warrant the nearly $4k jump to the Limited over the SEL that was otherwise equipped the way we wanted it. Every other vehicle we drove in the segment made the push button start available at a lower price point. I'm still annoyed by it, but we love the Edge in every other way. We got a FWD SEL with 202A package (leather, MyFord Touch, backup camera).
  13. I was surprised at how much the dealers were willing to deal on this new and still somewhat hard to find vehicle. We just signed for a 2011 Edge SEL FWD w/ 202A (leather, MyFord, etc) and roof rails in Candy Red Metallic. The MSRP on this vehicle is $34,085; invoice is $32,251; the dealer offered it to us for $100 under invoice ($32,151) and then we took the $1500 incentive from Ford PLUS another $500 because my wife graduated from grad school within the past two years. So our final price was $30,151, plus tax and doc fee. Going to pick it up this week!
