  1. It will be nice to keep this thread going. Because as we all know we do have different issues than the US. Mostly the language issue which may cause a delay (rumor maybe) and we don't seem to be getting the same or as much information from Ford Canada as do our friends from the US, although I must say I got my letter regarding the update in a timely fashion. I am willing to wait for the mail package because I do need the SD Card for the nav. because It's really my only significant complaint, that and a minor complaint about the clock not working the way it should. So please post when anyone from north of the border receives their flash drive and sd card.
  2. I'll be curious to know when a Canadian Owner receives the package in the mail or if the rumor about a slight delay due to language issues is actually fact.
  3. I'm gonna wait it out until I receive the mail package. I want to keep looking at my 'crappy nav maps' until I get the new install and then I can really be surprised (I think) and let out a relieved 'WOW'.
  4. I to agree with that assumption. I haven't had any trouble at all with my system with 2.7 and believe me I have given it a workout. I believe Choff said she has not had any problems with and still using 1.8 and then we have people who have all kinds of trouble even after upgrading to the latest update and still having the same problems as they were with 2.4, 2.7, 2.8 and 2.11
  5. Yes, same here. After my 6 mo. ran out I told them to cancel. Back with an offer the same day for around 5.00 per month for a year. I accept, thank you.
  6. Your thinking is much like mine. I haven't upgraded from 2.7 because my system is generally working very well. The reason I am going with the update that everyone is talking about is to hopefully get a fix for my clock (which is no big deal, since it works when set manually) and I suppose a simplified screen and maybe a bit faster system. What I am looking forward to most is an update to the Nav Maps, again this is a small problem considering what quite a few of the forum members are experiencing. I'm pretty sure we'll get the SD card as well.
  7. Yes that's what I was thinking. As a matter of fact I think you have to have at least 2.7 before you can do the 2.11 yourself and then the final update yourself. There was some concern that if you lived in Canada you would have to download the final update but apparently that is not the case. I have already received notification that a USB flash drive will be sent to me when available. Anyway thanks for the info and keep it coming.
  8. Oh really. I was advised and I believe it was on this forum that 2.11 must be installed before continuing with the new one. Well that's great news because I was a bit hesitant about installing 2:11 when my system was working so well. Thanks.
  9. Did you not get a notification yet about the update being sent to you via a flash drive. I received notification 2 or 3 weeks ago. Bummer for you but my understanding is we all have to get the 2.11 update done before installing the one we received on the flash drive. So you are one step ahead of me. I'm still running 2.7 without any significant problems.
  10. Agreed, outdated maps have been my biggest beef. Been one of the lucky ones otherwise. I gave the Nav. System a good test last month with a 15,000km trip and spent lots of time off road. But the car and all other systems worked great and actually got good mileage. But I find it hard to gloat when quite a few forum users are having significant problems.
  11. Update: Received my notification in the mail today regarding the USB drive.
  12. Haven't received anything at this end yet. Good news though.
  13. Yes Joe I really did enjoy the ride and really have had none of the 'significant' problems that some of our forum friends have had to deal with. I have had the car for 1 year but this was my first long trip, I won't be doing any updates to the system until the 'major' one comes out early 2012 when I hope the Nav maps will be updated. Until that time I rely mostly on a portable GPS. Ed
  14. Thanks for the correction on MPG. We as well were fully loaded, both trunk & back seat (we were away 5-6weeks), so I was happy with the gas mileage. I am looking forward to the updates in the early months of 2012. Now that I am back in the snowy/cold climate I'm sure the mileage per gallon will drop considerably. Glad you are enjoying your ride...wish I could have stayed in Florida another month or two Lol...
  15. Just back from a 15,000km trip. The first long one in the Ford Edge. All systems worked like a charm (except the clock/gps sync, which I have had trouble with from the beginning). Combination driving, mostly Trans Canada Highway, and Interstate driving (Average speed 70-75mph) with some city driving in Ottawa, Toronto, Washington DC, Fort Myers and points in between I got 8.9litres per 100km which I believe is around 27 - 28mpg. As for the Nav system, which I have been very critical in the past, did show great promise if the maps could be updated (I was off road many times, even in larger centers). To answer a couple questions above, I ran the Garmin 3490 (most up to date model) side by side with the Ford Nav. The 3490lmt (lifetime maps & traffic) traffic updates worked great and gave updates up to 200km away. Voice options worked great on the Garmin. The Edge Nav showed a slight lag but not to the point where a turn could be missed. The speech option for destinations, POI's, addresses etc. left a lot to be desired...actually I had to give up using it completely. The Junction Views with the split screen worked great. When the Ford Nav maps get updated and maybe a faster boot time I believe a lot of customers will be happy with the system, especially the large screen. Until I see those improvements I will definitely not leave home without my portable gps.
  16. No I must say the lag is very minimal if any. Strange how the same systems act so differently. As I mentioned the maps are terrible. I was off road more than on in some sections. But...a big But...if they can update the maps and get the bugs out of the system, I really think the Nav. will be ok. I am really glad to have the Garmin with me to compare and to confirm what I have suspected all along. First I thought it was the maps out of date for smaller areas but it happened in larger centres as well. Happy Holidays to one and all. Thanks for the tip on removing the blank square from the map display. Will try it out tomorrow.
  17. I am now 4000km into aprx 8000km trip and have been running the Garmin 3490lmt side by side with the Ford Edge Nav. No comparison. The split screen on the Ford system seems to work well but it is not dependable due to the outdated maps. If that can be corrected and a bit more speed it should work well. The Garmin 3490lmt updated traffic every few seconds both in Canada and the US (presently in DC). Found it very effective in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto and Washington. So with updated maps etc. the system on the Edge should be fine. By the way, I ended a route about 2 days ago by pressing the 'end route' on the screen instead of voice. The 2in x 1in little screen that comes up when you cancel route stayed on top of the map screen. Thinking for the first time in a year may have to disconnect the battery cable to reset...any other ideas. Thanks.
  18. Heard the same thing. Hopefully that will become a fact. Tonight I will start dreaming about my stupidity for buying the Garmin but at least that dream will be only a $300.00 one instead of the $700.00 plus. Actually I would have waited for the update but had trips to Ottawa, Toronto, Washington DC and Fairfax coming up in the next week and truthfully I didn't trust the Edge Nav. Happy holidays to you and the rest of the forum users.
  19. I have to say first off I love the Edge but hate (with a passion) the Nav. System. I still dream about the 750.00 (or whatever) I threw away on that addition to the edge lol. My biggest complaint was the outdated maps, in my area 8 years out of date. I've always had Garmin's and decided about 2 weeks ago to buy the 3490lmt and the first thing I noticed, streets that were built 1 year or less were on the maps. I went to google maps to compare and they were exactly the same and as up to date as google. BUT as Akirby mentioned, maybe the big update in the New Year will change all that...then I'll dream about the money I wasted on the Garmin (grin). Never satisfied!!!!
  20. I bet Dingo still has the plastic covering on his seats!
  21. The short answer is No! The long answer is "I Wish". Regulations sometimes get in the way of the "I Wish" part of the answer. My new Garmin has lifetime maps and traffic, so I am set for driving around DC and Fairfax VA.
  22. I checked my maps from Navteq on my old Garmin 660, bought in 2006/2007 & the 2010 version maps + updates for that year, for my area they have more up to date maps than on my Ford Edge. Sounds like I am complaining about the Edge but actually almost a year into ownership and running 2.7 I really love the car. None of the irritating issues that others have encountered (minor issue with the clock/gps sync). But I have kicked my butt many times over ordering the Nav. system.
