  1. 2011 Limited AWD / bought new.....now have 104,000 and will be putting on a new set of 20" Pirelli Scoprion STRs.....this is the first replacement set of tires. The factory tires lasted 104,000 miles and I could probably go another 25,000 or so. This is the BEST I've ever done on a set of tires. Amazing. I rotate between 9,000 and 15,000 miles. I run 40psi most of the time. Never rebalanced. Going to TireRack in the morning for another set of the same tire.....although I can't get the STR A....they only have the STR (without the A). The difference is the A has a more square edge....where the straight STR has more of a radius along the edge. I hear the A's are better for higher profile vehilces (crossovers)....but I hear they don't make the STR A's any more. I just installed a new DieHard AGM Platinum 950CCA 140min RC 48 month battery. Pulled the OEM factory battery. Expensive battery but should last another 100,000 miles.
  2. Hello.....I have a 2011 that I bought new and now have 104,000 miles on it without anything major. BUT from almost day one, i have had the transmission BANG. I've taken it in that the dealer never can find anything wrong. Just this evening, I was installing a new battery and happened upon the transmission fluid check and fill. I pulled it out and there was only a tiny drop of red transmission fluid on the bottom tip of the check cable/tip. From Advance Auto, I bought a quart of Fort ATV Mercon LV fluid and plan to put some in next week. I am thinking that this might be the BANG problem. Sort of makes sense.....my BANG is usually under no load....coasting....then just when it downshifts from 2 to 1....if I decide to accelerate....even lightly...BANG. Low on fluid could cause clutch packs to not build pressure properly and BANG. I look forward to putting in some fluid. My BANG only happens every once in a few months....so it may be a while before I can determine if this fixed it. Although.....I find myself not accelerating about the time of the 2 to 1 downshift. Good Luck everyone.
  3. 2011 Limited AWD 63,000miles - The last two months (Dec13/Jan14) starting to hear an occasional "click" from left front of car when shifting from forward to backward. I thought it was the left front CV Joint going out, so made an appointment. Then a few days ago, had the Edge in the driveway over 3 inches of snow....after running an errand on very cold and slushy roads. When I moved the Edge, I noticed a couple dozen drips of dark fluid from under my Edge. I thought it was just melting dirty slush, so no alarm. Took it in this morning for the CV Joint check and this afternoon (Jan 22, 14), got a call that the PTU needs to be replaced as it is CRACKED. In hind sight, the dirty drips on the snow were probably in the area of the PTU. The dealer is getting a new PTU in the morning and should be done tomorrow afternoon. Will be covered under my Extended Warranty (up to 75,000 miles). I don't tow, don't drive hard, mild driver (I save my fun for my fun cars). NOW...since new, about 3 to 5 times a year, I would get a very aggressive 2nd to 1st shift "slam." Typically when I was slowing down and then modestly accelerate while the transmission is downshifting (a couple of the events occurred when going up a small incline). No aggressive driving. A while back, took it into the Dealer and they put in some software that "should" have fixed it.....but over the last year it has happened again. It acts like it is downshifting and is initiating the downshift (maybe from 2nd to 1st).....then when the accelerator is asking to accelerate, the transmission aborts the downshift, and with the torque converter still locked-up, makes the shift with no cushion of an unlocked torque converter....thus no smooth shift......resulting in a very aggressive "slam." I wonder if these "slams" contributed to the PTU cracking? I really like my 2011 Edge and take very good care of it.....no dings, good syn oil, rotate tires....hoping to get many more miles out of it. Should I sell it and get a new one ???
  4. I too do NOT like the front seat headrests. The two headrests have small areas in the base of the headrest mounting sockets (on the top of the seats) that need to be pushed in (with your finger tips....no tools needed. When you flip them around, they aren't nearly as annoying....but now they are a bit too far back. I'd like to see someone offer an aftermarket headrest or headrest cover that looks good, is inexpensive and gets the turned around headrests into a usable position. I just completed a 2400 mile trip from Indiana to Houston and back to Indiana (to see the Final Four)....and my 2011 Edge was AWESOME !!! This is a GREAT ROAD VEHICLE !!! Every mile in this vehicle was a pleasure. This vehicle is Exceeding my Expectations !!! I installed my Trailer Hitch and wiring (see another post from me)....flipped my headrests.....and soon will be adding 3 years of SiriusXM - All Audio, plus Travel Link (but NOT including "Traffic") (I found on my trip and prior driving that I don't use the Traffic Notices....). Again.....Great Road Vehicle....
  5. Hello Edge owners.....I have a 2011 Limited (love it)....and just installed a CURT 2" Receiver Hitch....13067. It took about 2 hours to install....fishing the back plates and the bolts through the holes took some time. The installation looks really nice. I will try to share a picture or two. the Receiver opening is below the rear facia about 3/4" and looks really good. No cutting of the facia (Limited). I used some diluted kitchen dish soap to lube the exhaust hangers (three rubber hangers.....juice them up, then muscle them off....no tools required). Rest the exhaust on an exhaust stand to keep from hanging too low. Then "fished" the two rear bolts on each side (front most bolts)....then installed the hitch.....with the four rear bolts. Center punched the two rear most holes (one on each side). Then drilled with 1/2" drill.....probably should have used a 9/16" drill or a 17/32"......a bit bigger hole would have helped some. Fished the two rear most bolts....then torqued all six nice and snug. Looks REAL Good. Also purchased the CURT wiring kit....56120 (hitch and wiring kit from hitchmart1 on ebay.....I think rockford, IL.....fast and perfect.....$200 incl shipping). A very good deal. The wiring has t-connectors, so I think this will be better than splicing wires. Overall a Very Good installation and can't wait to get the wiring completed...... Good Luck and let me know if you have any questions. Rick

  7. Nice looking vehicle..... I like it.... Hello.....where did you purchase the Sport Wheels and Tires and how much did the set cost? I have a 2011 Black Limited....and would like to get a set of the Sport Wheels and Tires. Thanks, Rick
  8. I just received a letter from Ford.......for recall 10S14 and 10B20 (both Body Computer). I DON'T want to take my Edge to a dealer..... I bought it to drive and use it, NOT to have it sit in a dealership.
  9. I really like the Adaptive Cruise Control....and in the future, I probably won't buy another car without it. Is it worth the $1,500 ??? Sure....for it's functionality and bragging rights..... PS - When on the Interstate, I like to cruise at about a 3 second distance from the car in front of me.....enough to catch some "broken-up air" (draft - for a bit better fuel economy), typically close enough others don't pull in-between.....but far enough back to not get stones kick-ed up and chips on my hood or windshield. This Adaptive Cruise Control is PERFECT for me. I get the BEST of All Worlds.... safe distance, better fuel economy, no stone chips....
  10. Just installed the magnetic oil drain plug. Put it up on my ramps....15mm for the OEM plug and 13mm wrench for the new magnetic (also put on a new crush washer). Lost very little oil on the transfer of plugs (maybe 1 to 2 ounces). Got 1,800 miles on it now and plan to change between 2,500 and 3,000. Will not go to Mobil 1 Synthetic until above 10,000.....probably closer to 15,000 (18,000 max) as I want it to get broken well. Unless my new cars come from the factory with Synthetic (like my Corvette and Prius), I don't go Synthetic until about 18,000 miles.
  11. Very Nice !!! I can't wait for my first photo-opp with my Black Limited. When the weather breaks....I'm thinking of getting a set of 22" Sport Wheels/Tires.
  12. Very Good Looking Edge !!! Can you share the details on your wheels and tires.....mfg, model, size....(for both wheels and tires) etc? Thank You, Rick
  13. What connections did you make to get the LED bars to be on as daytime driving lights?
  14. Did you put in LED or Super White incandescent ? I'm looking to put in LED in most all exterior and interior locations (if possible). Looking for the bulb numbers (2011 Limited). Thanks, Rick
  15. Let us know how much you paid for them... Thanks, Rick
