  1. Only the painters tape touches the hood - The duct tape directly covers the painters tape. Removal leaves no residue and it holds in the rain. Overall it lasts for several days and does protect from the bugs and stones.

Car show guys have been doing this for ages when not trailering to meets.

Get the 14 day tape if you are going on a long trip, it removes easier. ALWAYS buy 3M (Scotch) Brand tape, no other company's adhesive can compare and you don't want to cheap out on your paint.

  2. Almost every car will exhibit the same behavior to some degree. By opening up a single window you create a sealed, resonant cavity that creates the pressure pulses that can cause real discomfort (as you found out). If you crack open a window on the other side, the resonant cavity is eliminated and the sound goes away.

I've explained buffeting many times but you, sir, hit the nail on the proverbial head!

  3. Lemme check my photos to see if I have a shot ready....

If not I will post back today or tomorrow with instructions for all interested parties.

Here's photos of the cut you needed to make the license plate lights shine evenly. I cut the left (Drivers) side light hole with these cutters below. The plastic is relatively soft and easy to cut and in a pinch you could probably get the job done with a steak knife (obviously not recommended).

I did this hack job (you can see the roughness) in 5 minutes at night without any measuring. Just cut test and recut if necessary (start small!).

The cutter is a Pepboys cheapy for $10. I keep it in the car and it has come very handy in many ways.

  4. Thanks cal3thousand. I ordered the plate lights... you mentioned having to switch the bed around and snip a portion tin off... any chance you can take a picture of that. i'd light to reproduce it and want to make sure Im snipping off the right part.

  5. I just ordered the V-LEDS - wondering if these cause a resistor sensor error code?

I can verify that no code is thrown.

Also, to follow up on my review, I have been very happy with the v-leds lights. At first, I thought I wanted more light back there, but have noticed that they light is actually brighter than stock without being blinding.

The car looks very good from a distance when backing up.

  6. It's you again, man. Thanks for you help.

Where can i get the white kit first?? I think that they are oem and only fit into our edge. So should I order the white kit from ford or from somewhere else???

There's a bunch of different ones available, but I think a couple members posted about using this one: http://store.ijdmtoy.com/Philips-Day-Light-LED-Daytime-Running-Lights-DRL-p/led_ddl_sku_7c.htm

  7. Yes it works perfectly :happy feet:

It must've taken about 45 minutes to completely index - it seemed to be stuck at 2500 or so, I just ignored it, then after a while it said indexing complete, and then began building the voice command data for each track - I think that must've taken about 10 minutes (for the 11,000 tracks)

I'm glad I spent the time yesterday properly tagging - I used a program Helium 8, which is an audio manager, it lets you tag by file name, I just went for the Artist first, then the song, but you can also add Album, track number, Album art if you want.

The HDD is a Western Digital 500GB USB 2.0 - I deleted the handling software, so for all intense and purposes, it's just a generic storage device.

    Good luck

    Wow! I'm stoked for ya!

Thanks for all the info. I'm tempted to give it another go since I have a WD 320GB and a WD 500GB.

May I ask you the folder structure (all songs in root folder/in album folders) and partition File system you used (FAT or FAT32)?

  8. Hi Everyone, we have experienced the same thing on three seperate occasions. The first time it happened to my wife while she was backing out of our garage. She didn't realize that the hatch was open and damaged the it when it contacted the garage door frame to the tune of 1700.00 dollars. Of course we couldn't dupilcate the condition so we drove on. A few weeks later as I was sitting in traffic at a signal light I noticed that the hatch was open. I tried closing it from the button on the dashboard and it wouldn't close. I had to put it in park and exit the vehicle to close it manually. A few weeks after that it happened to my wife again as she was backing out of the garage again and the hatch was damaged again. Can you believe it?

I took it in to our local dealer and they contacted the Ford hotline to see if anyone was having this problem and they told me that Ford said that they weren't getting any complaints about unintended hatch openings. They kept the vehicle for a week and tried to duplicate the problem but were not able to. Ford said that there is nothing more they can do. So we have decided to disable the auto hatch opening and just do it manually.

Jeez that sucks. I don't mean to be rude, but was she looking at all when backing up?

If you had a BU camera, you would be seeing a screwy picture angle before the accident AND/OR if she looked back, she'd have see the gate wide open. There's no replacement for visual recognition.

Btw, the hatch won't pop or close when in drive , so it must have been opened BEFORE put in drive huh.gif)

I'm going suggest your wife pay more attention to her surroundings while driving.

And if you REALLY believe it's the keyfob's problem, make a cover like I did.

  9. I have a 2011 Edge and am not happy with it. I had it to the dealer twice who can not duplicate the problem: when either me or my husband drive. Going down hill, foot not on gas, engine revs between 4-6 RPM. I also only get 17 miles a gallon.

Not a problem, that's part of the design. The engine is cutting fuel and using compression to help you engine brake.

It is not using extra fuel as the injector pulses are cut off. You apparent lack of MPG efficiency is due to something else. Has the engine been through the break in period? Are you doing the proper type of driving for the break-in? i.e. not driving a single engine RPM for long periods of time and not hammering it, et cetera?

  10. I'll let you know tomorrow, I finished the tagging and connected it up for about half an hour - it was up to 2500 of 11,500 when I got bored of waiting, I left it connected so hopefully, it'll carry on syncing the rest. It didn't like the new HDD3.0, so I used an older 2.0 one, but still 500GB. Finger crossed ;)

    I'm interested to know.

Right now, my solution consists of using Google Music through my phone. It's nice to have access to all of my 7000+ songs without carrying anything extra around.

  11. I finally got my White 2011 Ford Edge Sport AWD yesterday - I've only driven it very briefly and have spotted none of the obvious problems (yet) Other than a slight scratch on the Speedo glass, and a couple of unsmooth leather work areas on the passenger seat, I've 100% satisfied.

I knew living out here now that the Nav would be a no-go, but I still have my trusty Garmin (so don't really care) - the MFT and Sync seem fine - I'm guessing I have 2.8 since it was built in May/June and there's none of the infamous lag on mine. USB works fine! Speech recognition works very well with my British English accent to.

A couple of differences I've noticed from what I was expecting (not necessarily hoping) is no privacy glass (it might have something to do with the tinting laws here, although, I notice older imports here do have the privacy glass. No matter, I've just put 3M 50% - looks great! (which is technically illegal here - 35% blocking is the max) on the sides and back and didn't have to worry about matching up. The mirrors are chrome not body colour, again, I had no preference so don't care.

I've just bought WD 500G harddrive to transfer all my music, I'll spend today tagging the music properly so I can take advantage of the speech recognition (which I think is a fantastic feature).

I post some photos later - but it's pretty much factory other than the tints.

Future investments - Hids - not a fan of the yellowish glow - not with a white car! Clear windshield/screen film to keep the car cool - Dubai is basically a desert after all.

This afternoon - I'll try and get my head around the keyless entry fob.

I haven't had luck with portable HDDs, let me know if you get it working. Best I've had luck with was a 16GB USB 3.0 stick

  12. Thanks for replying, but I am not sure how to pull the whole piece, looks like the bumper is attached with something else. I tried to lift it, but did not work.

I showed this link, to a member here, from mechanixtrix for removing the bumper on a Gen1 Edge, which is essentially the same.

He used that, and did an awesome write up for the LED bars DRL retrofit. It shows the link in the first part of his thread:

  13. I think Ford should cover it if there is no evidence of a foreign object. But let's say Ford found a rock amongst the shattered glass. Would it still be a no-brainer that it should be covered?

I wonder how large would that rock have to be? would a BB sized pebble be enough to dismiss Ford from liability? I would think the car should be able to handle some amount of hail as well.

I'm seeing a huge grey area.

  14. Dinged my front passenger side pretty good the other day and Ford Dealers are wanting $921 + $50 core charge. Nothing on ebay and the only place I could find online was $840 total w/ delivery. Anyone else know of a better option to find one?

    FYI~ Here is the part # BA1Z-1007-B

Here is link to online ford parts I found. 20 inch rims

Update: Did a online salvage yard part search and was able to find one $425 inc. shipping from a salvage yard in AR in perfect condition. This might be the best bet to find one cheaper then $921.

They go on eBay periodically. I would suggest keeping an eye out and waiting. Unless your damage is more than cosmetic?

  15. Tempered glass is a strange animal.....it's quite a bit stronger than regular glass, but when it fails, it tends to fail spectacularly and suddenly but safely (into those small chunks). It has great overall strength but a lot of potential energy. Just search the web for causes as to what can make it spontaneously fail. Deep enough surface scratches to the more common edge damage can set it off. The glass is in both tension and compression and when you eliminate the compressive stress on the outside of the glass enough, failure occurs.

It's likely impossible to say for sure, but in a new vehicle on roof glass....one would think there was a defect in the installed glass - perhaps a gouge or nick on the edge or some anomaly within the glass panel itself. Otherwise you'd have heard and seen a pretty large impact on your roof prior to the shattering. I'd suggest doing some research on how tempered glass fails and presenting it to Ford/dealership in an effort to show them it might very well be a defect. IMHO if you have spontaneous destruction of tempered glass due to an impact of a foreign object, you'll know the object hit it. Roof glass failing like that, to my non expert opinion, is a failure in the glass beyond your control.

Strange indeed. Seeing as how a piece of spark plug ceramic can shatter it. I always thought resonance was the culprit, but it seems it is due to the hardness of the aluminum oxide. GO figure.
