  1. Current Ford Edge Jailbreak is Greenp0ison 1.0 however it is tethered so you can not drive your Edge at this time, however Geohot is currently working on an untethered Greenp0ison 1.1 which should be untethered and your Edge will be drivable.

Wait, the Apple guys are hacking the MS Sync? I can't find anything about it... go a linky? I'm interested.

  2. Carfax takes a long time to report, so if it was a recent accident/repair it won't show up yet. Have a good body shop look it over see what they think. You may have recourse because you just bought it. Better Business Bureau could be helpful if you need them.

And if it were never reported, Carfax will never know.

Seems like dried bird droppings to me. I'm planning to wax the hell out of my Edge this weekend

  3. Just purchased a Carpod online only to find that it requires a 2" receiver hitch.

Has anyone tried a Carpod with an Edge?

    Thanks

Never tried a carpod with the Edge, but my Edge came with a Class II hitch with a 2" opening. Is that not what you have?

EDIT: If you only have 1.25", you could get an adapter, but that might add to the wobble.

  4. From what I remember, the roof isn't structurally sound to hold the extra weight with the vista roof. If you go aftermarket though, the weight is put more onto the sides/pillars

But where from do you 'remember' this? Dealer or service manager or some other inside person?

It really doesn't make sense to me. The factory rails are all the way to the edge (no pun intended) of the roof. The aftermarket solutions that have touted the highest load capacities were installed with "tracks" that lie 2-3 inches inboard (closer to the Vista roof) of the factory location. The aftermarket "clip" solutions that move the mounts to the far edges only offer 100lbs of load capacity.

IMO, the real reason they didn't offer rails with Vista roof is the risk of damage to the tempered (not safety) glass. Included with this was the risk of people overloading or improperly loading the roof and possibly messing up the roof mechanism. This would require a large enough load to warp the aluminum frame (something on the order of at least 200 pounds + force). Of course, if you hit something with tall items on the roof, the Vista could/would be damaged and that's not cheap ($5,000 just for the part).

Definitely risks involved. I just feel that the risks are not due to simply weight but what that weight will do if an accident occurs.

Having said all this, I plan on installing the factory rails with the Vista roof. (flame away) I will also keep in mind the risks as I load anything. I'll limit my cargo to bikes, snowboards and skis, surfboards, and maybe the occasional kayak at most. Definitely not putting anything up there for "moving" purposes. I will rent a trailer on the occasion I want to lug anything really heavy around.

I installed the rails on my own, after the dealer quoted me a price of $200 to do it. The instructons were on the Ford web site with the accessories. It took me about 2 hours with a screwdriver and a socket wrench, I think 7mm.

    Thanks for confirming

I was afraid that the headliner removal was required after looking around at the flex forums.

  5. Thanks bro you too! I've called they told me it's a no go for the rears,to call back in about 4 months.

So it looks like we ended up at the same place. None available.

But all is not lost! ... if you really want a set, order the blanks from Ford (get a reseller discount if you can) and have some company like R1Concepts cut them for you.

The blanks on Fordparts.com for the AWD rears are about $65 each. (~$50 if you can get reseller status).

    * I'm waiting on a quote for slotting. *

UPDATE: Pricing on BYOB (Bring Your Own Blanks) = $20 a rotor for cutting and $5 each for zinc plating, you cover shipping.

  6. I know some formats are smaller than others allowing you to hold a lot more music on a USB, what format is everyone using? Mp3?

Mp3 is the best way to go. For those that have premium sound, you will want to make sure to encode in a high bit rate or you will hear the difference. Not sure about the standard system's frequency response, so I can't comment there.

I encode all of my mp3s (since 2003 or so?) in 192KHz (or lossless for some archives) Stereo 24-bit... can get a bit large, but nothing my 16GB flash won't handle.

  7. Rough start to the week! I leave for work and I realize my battery is dead! Normally, this wouldn't be a big deal, but 2007 SEL FWD is parked just out of reach of my jumper cables and so I have to push it out of the driveway to reach. The problem is that I can't figure out how to release the shifter from park!

I see in the manual that I have to remove the little plastic top and then stick a screwdriver down into shift release thing. I tried this for 15 minutes to no avail. Instead of risking damage, I thought I would stop and do a little research.

Do anyone have any tricks to releasing the shifter while the car won't start?

    thank you in advance!

If you got the plastic thing off and the screwdriver in there, did you also put a foot on the brake?

  8. I quickly mounted my roof racks on a 2011 Edge Limited with a BAMR. First time I've every installed roof racks on a bare roof. I've always transported kayaks on cars with roof racks. Time to send Ford a friendly suggestion.

I've attached a photo of one of my kayaks. The boat's 18 feet long and dwarfs the Edge. I put the boat on the bare rails, but need to install a Thule Slipstream which contains a roller. Unfortunately, rear crossbar's a long way from the rear of the car and you definitely need a roller assembly to slide the boat. Also, the Slipstream provides better support for the boat's hull. I can add my tiedowns right where the bulkheads meet the hull for added rigidity.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to secure the bow. I may run a Bison Hookm through the grille. Next, run a line from the bow to the Hookm. I'll attach a stern line to the tow hitch.

    That looks awesome.

For the front, I've seen some just run a loop under one of the fender bolts under the hood.

Whatever you do, more pics please.

  9. My 2011 is posessed.

For the 3rd time in about 4 months, my driver seat moved foward when I parked and turned of ignition.

It moved ALL the way forward!! I'm a big guy and it damn near suffocated me. I'm serious!

I've had the seat module replaced once and it still goes stupid every week or so and will not move forward for the easy entry feature. But it does pick random times to move ALL the way forward when I'm in it.

    WTF!

Let this be on the record...if I'm found suffocated in the kroger parking lot, sue Ford!

damn... that is scary. Hopefully they get that fixed up right for ya. Until then, make extra sure not to get into any airbag accidents.

  10. I was very frustrated with the finger print issue also and found a good solution in a screen protector from Patronus. It greatly reduced the finger prints, and cut some of the glare too. Take your time applying the sheild to the screen so you don't get bubbles.

I have a Realook (www.realook.us - currently down, best to goto Amazon) screen protector for my MyTouch 4G and it is the best thing I've found. Great adhesive and amazing clarity. I think it even improved some of my clarity in sunlight.

I messed up on the installation due to instructions that weren't the clearest. But, the cool thing was, I just washed it with water (crazy huh?) and applied it to the phone while a bit wet. Then, I squeegeed the water and bubbles out (kind of like how a clear bra is put on).

It's been perfect since. It has one giant scratch in it, but I'm sure that would be on my actual digitizer/screen if not for the protector. I can't find one for the Edge yet, but they might have one for another vehicle that fits the Edge.

Just another option and my 2 cents.

  11. Hi Everyone!

Soon to be 2011 Ford Edge owner! Ordered my Edge Sport AWD on March 12. Got my VIN and window sticker on the 5th of April. Sync installed (gen2.8) on April 11th. So I'm hoping just a matter of a few weeks until I'm up and running!

Live in central NJ and I commute up to northern NJ everyday. A 48 mile trek each way! But I luv to drive and I'm really looking forward to my Sport AWD. Tuxedo Black fully loaded except rear seat DVDs. (single and no kids so no need) I currently have a 2002 GMC Envoy and I'm pushing 265,000!!! Still running great but it's definitely time for a change. Also this will be a brand change for me. I've always had GM trucks although my first car was a 83' Ford Ranger pick-up. I've owned four GMC Jimmy suvs and the Envoy since the early 90s but I haven't been impressed with GMs lineup the last few years. Test drove the Edge afer a few GM test drives and I was hooked. Hoping that my 2011 Edge Sport will be able to go up and up in mileage like my Envoy!

Will be posting in other treads since I have many questions to ask the group!

Cheers all! I'll keep you posted on my Edge Progress.

    Damon :shades:

Congrats... your morning commute will be soooo much nicer now. I'm having no problems waking up on my first alarm ring now

    EDIT: quotation fix

  12. The owner's manual hints that the rear should be separately controlled but doesn't actually say it. I suspect there is only one hose feeding the rear even though there are 2 vents in which case it would be impossible to have different temps for each side.

    Has anyone else confirmed this?

I tested this yesterday at lunch. And, from what I can tell, the rear vents are married to the passenger temperature. Here's how I tested:

    1) Turned on Max A/C and let it get cold

    2) Felt the vents in DS, PS and RR to make sure they felt the same.

    3) Turned the PS thermostat up to 80º F and visually made sure 'Dual' was activated

    4) Waited and felt the air temperature at DS, PS and RR again.

    5) Noticed that DS was colder than both PS and RR which felt the same (fairly warm).

    6) Turned 'Dual' back on and verified air temperatures were the same at DS, PS and RR again (real cold).

  13. After months of analysis and evaluations , I got my Ford Edge 2011 Limited AWD yesterday. Just getting to use the car and my initial impression is - WOW!!!!

Will keep posting experiences and would love to hear from the group.

    Congrats!

I'd like to see a video of the AWD ripping around in the desert... that would be hot. Literally and figuratively.
