  1. Model is 2011 Ford Edge Limited with 301 package. Car works great, but I am curious about the activity when I turn on the front window defroster. I've noticed that when I have A/C set to off (no light, no cold air from vents), and I turn on the front window defroster, the air starts blowing cold (temperature was set to 72 degrees, and it was about 70 degrees out). It feels like the compressor is on to me since the air is literally blowing cold. I turn the temp up to 80 degrees, and the air comes up warm enough to defront the window. So, has anyone else noticed this? Is this by design or does it sound like a glitch? I should note that when I turn off the defroster, the A/C comes on when the air starts blowing from the dash-vents. For clarification, I am not using the touch screen or Voice activation here, I am using the touch sensitive buttons on the lower center stack.
  2. I am not sure if the SEL's OEM head unit has sub-out. My guess would be no.
  3. When I used to install audio systems in my other cars, I always started with a subwoofer and then upgraded interiors. You need to either purchase an amplifier with cross-over control or a separate cross-over device (you can get some filters that you can install in-line, which are inexpensive).
  4. Baum's advice on the polyfill is excellent. My friend setup my old system in my Impala/Xterra, and he recommended it. And that system sounded awesome. Plus 1 for you, Baum.
  5. Call me crazy, but I've always felt that Exxon and Sunoco works well with the Fords, particularly the Duratec (I know the 3.5 is a different design). I used to have a Ford Contour and it didn't run as well with Shell gas.
  6. I occasionally get an issue with my iPhone where it doesn't connect. I simply delete the device and do the pairing again. It only takes a minute or two.
  7. I'm driving a 2011 Edge Limited with 18 wheels. In NJ, the heat's been heavy and I have been using the AC constantly. Thus far, the car has been averaging near 21 mpg. Mixed Highway and City. I did reset the computer around 3000 miles. Currently, I'm almost at 5000 miles.
  8. I picked the Limited over the Sport for a number of reason, but the 22's wouldn't be a good choice in Pot-hole country (I live in NJ...in an area where the roads seem to shatter as you drive over them, and where contruction is happening everywhere). I prefer a smoother ride and rims that will last (I have 18's on my Edge). Honestly, the 3.5 pulles pretty hard, and I am noticing some real-world mileage around 22 mpg (combined). I do mostly Highway and I've been using the AC a lot. I would figure the Sport's numbers would be marginally lower. I will say the Sport has great looks, and the motherload of chrome on the front of the Limited looks pretty but I have concerns about pitting in the long-run (I might get the grill inserts and paint them black). My advice to the OP, or other potential buyers, would be to measure your needs and consider the environment on which you'll be using the car.
  9. Perhaps an exorcism is in order?
  10. I am not trying to defend SYNC/MFT or recommend against the update, but I think Milktruck and I were trying to convey that it might be the phone and not the system. It takes two to tango :-) Try process of elimination: reset the phone then try to update the phone. IF that doesn't do it, then go with the Ford update.
  11. Are you using an iPhone? I find my iPhone does this, but not my work-phone. I just turn off then restart the phone and that does the trick. Also, others might ask what version of SYNC you are using.
  12. When I was shopping for my 2011 purchase, I checked a decent number of options in the price range here in the United STates, not sure how they would change over seas. I looked at the following: 2011 Nissan Murano: Very nice interior and sporty drive, but felt a bit rougher on the road Somehow felt like there were too many options on this one, too. 2011 Ford Explorer: I liked the additional size, but felt I preferred the lighter more fuel efficient Edge 2011 Durango and Cherokee: Both feel really solid, but the V6 is a bit over-burdened with the weight. And yes, there is body-roll. These guys are still trucks despite the unibody construction. If the mileage or power was better with the V6, I would have given these more consideration. 2011 Venza: A solid vehicle, but seems lower to the ground and less engaging then the others 2011 Journey: The Pentastar V6 is a much better match in this unit. I really liked this choice: for the price, it's an excellent value. Sport drive and still fairly smooth. However, I felt the Edge was a bit more comfortable to drive. I know this is a bit like my other post in another topic, but it might give you a few other items to consider.
  13. I don't doubt the MFT issues are more abundant, but to clarify, I wasn't referring Bluetooth connectivity (I wasn't going to pair with a car I was test driving). The audio controls were not working properly on it, and I couldn't get the NAV to load. The separate HVAC controls worked.
  14. I second this. When I was shopping, I had checked out the 2011 Dodge Journey. On the first model I test-drove, the U-Connect was having a fit.
  15. sorta1 Not sure we can link to other sites, but you might want to check something like dealerfit.com for accessories like factory remote starts (they have the bi-directional for under $300). Compare the pricing there and decide if it's worth it. I have a factory Remote start on my Limited and I am very pleased with it's functionality. It's got a good range and it triggers very quickly. From my understanding the remote start is just a module, and shouldn't be too complicated to install. I could be wrong, though. You'd probably want to ask a vet like akirby.
  16. The issue is more or less just me being paranoid. I'm regular with locking the doors on the way out, but I like the idea of the machine self-arming. I'm considering getting the Alarm from Ford. All my previous cars had Viper systems: I kind of miss that, but I hate the cluttered key-chain.
  17. I have a 2011 Limited, and I was wondering if there is any way to add passive arming (even passive locking doors) with just a module. I like just having the key-FOB, and I would prefer to not have to add another remote to my key chain. Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
  18. Greg, I just went through the process of purchasing a car. I was going from a 2nd Generation Nissan Xterra to a new car. I checked out the 2011 Grand Cherokee, 2011 Durango, 2011 Journey, 2011 Explorer, and 2011 Edge. The 2011 Explorer is an excellent ride. I love the extra space and the terrain response system, but felt for my needs the additional space wasn't a necessity. I liked the Grand Cherokee and Durango, but those boys are a bit big for the new 6 powering them and the V8 is too hungry for gas (not to mention the 2013 model is expecting an 8-speed that will likely improve the gas mileage, a serious weak point on the Chrysler models). So I ended up comparing the 2011 Journey Lux and 2011 Edge Limited. There's a price difference there, but the equipment is similar. At 6'2" with wide shoulders, I felt the Edge has a bit more shoulder room front and back, and superior 2nd row leg room (not by much, but it's there if you ask me). The 2011 Journey's Interior is really nice, but I'd give the edge to the Edge (pun intended). I like the drive of the edge (a bit smoother over bumps), but the Dodge is nice and feels a bit more like a sport sedan. The Dodge is a bit longer, leading to more room in the rear for some cargo (or a third row). What really pulled it all together for me was 2 factors. The mileage on the Edge is better, and from what I have read, the Edge's AWD performs better in bad weather (a significant factor for me). I purchased the Edge Limited for the features, and absolutely love it thus far.
