  4. Perhaps you might have an issue with your particular Edge, given you can attain EPA numbers in other vehicles in the same environment. Or it's another factor: I'll agree that EPA numbers can be optimistic, given they represent a specific set of conditions. Also, the EPA numbers are usually driver only. Packing the Edge with people and accelerating will drain the fuel more quickly. The Advertised EPA is 18MPG City, 25MPG Highway (V6 AWD) is achievable: I've been able to get 24mpg. I keep my tires around 40psi cold (cold max is something like 44psi on my tire I think, filling to MAX may improve mileage), and I don't avoid using HVAC when I need it. I usually drive alone but will load 3 to 5 people into the car frequently enough. I hope you don't think I'm being argumentative, I'm just stating my experience. I know they list ranges for Highway EPA (something like 22 to 27 off the top of my head). Do I think it's possible to get to 27mpg with my configuration? No, not in NJ at least.
  5. I've been very Satisfied with the MFT system. Purchased the Car with v2.4, upgraded to V2.11 when people were saying it was an upgrade in performance. I will say it's less responsive than say an I-phone, but functionally speaking, it does what it's supposed to do.

I'd say go with the Explorer if you want more interior volume, and the Speed Sensitive steering feels nice (although over a half year into owning the Edge, I don't miss the Speed Sensitive Steering). The Edge will feel quicker than the Explorer give the same motor and drivetrain in each, and if you do alot of highway, you'll probably see better mileage in the Edge (if mostly mixed or city, you'll see about the same). I have a client that has the 2011 Explorer, he loves it. EDIT: I Agree with the other poster: Go with the Buckets for the second row. So much more comfortable than the bench, and it seemed to offer more leg room (or at least more thigh support). Also, you can get rear AC roof vents and controls in the Explorer, not available on the Edge. I'm sure I'm missing some things, but those were the biggies to me.
  7. I don't have the built in Navigation on my Edge, so I cannot comment on that. However, I otherwise love the controls. The Voice Controls function fine (some confusion with similar album/song/artist titles). The redundant touch controls make up for any issue with reach or feel in my opinion. Regarding mileage, with respect to all, I don't know what others were expecting. The Edge is a large vehicle and catches alot of air do to it's height and width. Even with those factors, I think the Mileage is great given it's size. I average around 21mpg (mixed city and Highway, 2011 EDGE V6 w/ AWD). I took a 3 hour trip for work, and clocked in at a bit about 24mpg for that haul. The Size versus manuverability is a trade-off for interior capacity. The seating, in my opinion is comfortable for 5 people. I agree, the Edge's turning circle is wide (compared to my Xterra, for instance), but its on-par with comparable vehicles save for the Murano and Journey (felt tighter to me). I'd say I wish the back of the car was more square, or longer, for more cargo capacity. However, Ford builds the Explorer for that need.

  11. Maybe a bit, particularly under heavy throttle, but that's to be expected. It's still a FWD based AWD system. Although the AWD definitely helps on launch, it doesn't eliminate the Torque Steer. I noticed the same issue with the Venza, Journey, and other FWD based AWD cross overs when test driving them.
  12. On my 2011 Limited I have the Remote Start, all one fob. I am guessing it's the 100 series. The ranger when there is line-of-site is pretty darn good. If you are going through walls, it gets shorter, but still is entirely functional from anywhere within my house. I used to have a Viper Bi-directional Alarm/Remote start in my car. It was cool when the car was out of sight or far, but beyond that, the bi-directional and extended range wasn't worth much. I guess it all depends on where you are in respect to your car a majority of the time. If you're starting from an office building, or apartment building, then it might be worth the bi-directional in those circumstances.

  14. Might be transient given environmental factors (air temperature, humidity) or vehicle speed. When I had my Contour, it was much more frequent. It was never a transmission issue on that car. I am not saying to rule out the transmission, but I would recommend considering it's an emission related protocol.
  15. I found the head rests intrusive until I toyed with the angle on the seat. There's enough thigh support and back support that I was able to angle it back. When I hold my head level to the ground, I'm looking forward and the Headrest isn't pressing against me, but my back is flush with the seat. It Might be worth a try. :-)
  16. Glad to hear you're happy with the car Roger. A couple of pointers for you that might help: 1) I found that the engine breaks-in, performance gains a bit. Also, I've learned how to coax the engine (drivetrain) for better performance (playing the throttle map through throttle input, if that makes sense). Basically, I'm saying you'll get used to it. 2) Regarding the indexing when the car starts, at 2 GB that should only take about 10 seconds. I have a 16gb USB drive (flash drive) in my 2011 with 12.8 GB's of music, and it takes about 5 to 10 seconds for that brief index when the Radio gets power. When I had less data, it was virtually seamless, but with the older SYNC it would occasionally do a full re-indexing. You may want to check into it with the dealer (make sure you have latest SYNC version). EDIT: Moderator, please move post if possible Also, to clarify, my comments about the break-in were regarding V6 Performance with AWD.
  17. Look for a fitness mat from a rubber Matting company. They're heavy (50 to 60 lbs), but they clean easy. Size is usually 4' x 6' and it's 3/8" thick. Pricing should be around $60

  19. If you want to have some fun, spend 5 minutes at Quality Automall in Bergen County. I can throw a rock out my window and hit the building: I would have been willing to go there for service for the practical aspect. From the sales floor experience, which was borderline criminal, I won't be going there until the next ownership takes effect. lol I think with Route 23, it all depends on who you talk to. I should note that I made the appointment via E-mail and dealt with only one guy in the actual garage.
  20. It might be "throttle over-hang". What happens is the engine hangs at a certain RPM prior to shift or engine speed reduction. It's there for emissions purposes from my understanding (burns of excess fuel/air in motor).
  21. Just researched and found Waldo was spot on. Most FWD models do not come standard with optional towing packages, some AWD variants do, though. But Trailer rating is the same with FWD or AWD provided the Towing Package is standard on said vehicle.
  22. Most front wheel drive cross-overs will top out somewhere between 1500lbs and 2000lbs. If you're consistently pulling 2000lbs, you really should aim to get something that tows more (3000 to 3500lbs). My advice would be a V6 -AWD, but if you're picking the Ecoboost, you're probably looking for the bump in mileage when not towing. I'm guessing that Range Rover pulls the 3500lbs with a AWD drivetrain. At least you can benefit from a lighter car and somewhat better mileage (though I would guess the fuel would be Premium on a luxury brand).
  23. The might have kept it lower along the length of the car to reduce bends, therefore reducing resistance for tuning purposes. I haven't considered this and would have to look at my car when I have the chance. The exhaust as pictured looks okay, just low. Are you worried about having it bottom out? The ground clearance is fairly generous which would limit that possibility. EDIT: Also, just noticed you have a front wheel drive. The additional clearance might be designed to accommodate both FWD and AWD applications, although I might be wrong.
