  1. Reviving this thread from the dead...was just reading regarding the rear tint and it not blocking UV rays. How can this be allowed? They don't allow sunglasses to be sold without UV protection so how would this be any different? Just worried about my little guy back there; if his pupils are opening due to low light levels but there is more than normal UV there could be long term issues. Did some more searching and found this link: http://www.lxforums.com/board/f92/window-tint-warning-2011-dodges-chryslers-244338/ Does anyone know if the new Edges use this type of glass? It mentions at the bottom that some Fords do.
  2. I would agree but before you start shopping around make sure you have the VIN of the damaged vehicle. If you go to another dealer they may try to tell you they have one on order that meets your build and just wait for this one to be fixed. Not all dealers are sketchy but it is worth checking to protect yourself. As a side note. Does anyone know if paint would still be covered by Ford if work was done? Or does it have to go back to the company that did the repairs? Also would this repair show on a CarFax or similar report since there would be an insurance claim?
  3. I was going to be placing a hitch for sale soon but I think shipping would kill any deal since they are heavy. I will try to get a weight on it in case anyone is interested so I could give you an estimate. The hitch is made by Valley and while it said it would fit a 2011 it does not, the newer exhaust has different cans so it interferes and clunks on occasion.
  4. I don't want to get too excited...as others have mentioned it looked like the original MFT functioned prior to release but I do believe Ford has too much riding on this to not make a big improvement. One thing that does make me nervous is changing too many of the screens. There is a bit of a steep learning curve which isn't great to do while your driving to begin with...couple that with my wife's issues with technology and this could take us some time to get used to. I just hope it is as intuitive as they think it is.
  5. Very good news indeed...especially that part about giving free updates to existing customers on the map data too. The maps are not the best, so any improvement will help.
  6. I did install a hitch mainly for a bike rack but as a few have suggested here installing a hitch should not affect your warranty except if somehow you damage the engine or trans from overheating. But this is unlikely with a light load like a quad or sled. Also some suggested that even if something did happen to your engine or tranny you could take the hitch off to fly under the radar. Not sure on the wiring, but I would suspect there is a connector that you can attach the OEM harness to.
  7. Maybe your MFT is controlling the doors now? :P But are you referring to the standard keyless entry or the intelligent access keyless system? We only have the standard keyless entry and so far have no issues. Hope it stays that way.
  8. Just to clarify....you took wheel from a 2011 and put them on a 2007? If so did you have the wheels machined? I thought the 2010 and earlier Edge's had a larger hub than the 11's and 12's, so if you didn't get this machined...could it be that one or more of the wheels are not on centered? If the wheel doesn't fit over the hub you would be relying on the lugs to center the wheel and if someone doesn't tighten them correctly it could become cocked.
  9. I know on another forum I was active on there were a lot of positive reviews on the X-Ice tires. I don't believe these are a dual compound tire so they don't lose much of their effectiveness all at once. The Blizzak's have that tube microcell tech that is only on the outside portion, so about half way through the tread block the magic is gone. Granted every snow tire gets less effective over time but the Blizzaks do drop off quickly and tend to wear faster.
  10. Depends on how narrow you go and what tire you choose. There are charts online that will list tire size and recommended rim widths. But if you are making a minimal change to width you likely won't have any issues. A good sanity check is to look at Tire Rack and see what they package.
  11. Wow, the dealer by my office is completely off their rocker. They quoted me $156 to program the BCM and said there were no guarantees. Well I guess I know where I won't be going. The salesman was going to quote the whole system installed but based on their initialization price I am sure they are going to be too expensive. Still can't believe they want to charge that much, that gets me half way to owning my own hardware/software to do it myself. If I thought there were more people interested in my area I would buy the software and install these on the side to pay for the software. Oh well, got to call other dealers now.
  12. Just saw DDM dropped their prices $5 a kit. In the past they have had sales starting around Thanksgiving but maybe they are trying to pick up some holiday sales now.
  13. OK...I might have missed it but where do you connect the first antenna (the one that has body clips attached to wire)? I think this gets plugged into the TPMS box but not 100% sure. And what is the purpose of the second antenna? When you get everything initialized let me know how the security system works. I had a dealer installed shock sensor on another car that was worthless. Initially it was set to be so sensitive it went off with heavy wind, they adjusted it but then it wouldn't go off even if I rocked the car by pulling the bike rack. If the system works well I would get the 200 series otherwise I may opt for the same system without the alarm. By the way I was told by an online retailer that you can purchase 9G1Z-15K601-A-F509 if you need another remote.
  14. Thanks for the write up...going to go through the steps and digest it. Need to do this too especially after the freak October snow storm we got the wife is applying more pressure.
  15. Figured as much but since my MFT has been flaky since the update I wouldn't be sure if it is a glitch in my hardware/software setup so was hoping to see if anyone else had luck. Just didn't want to spend much time beating my head against the wall for no reason.
  16. I haven't read the reports but have heard that the majority of the issues they had were with the MFT. With that said as Akirby mentioned there are many updates that have been provided, some report better operation on 2.11. For me this isn't the case but as he mentioned the vehicle still runs but if you rely on nav or other functions controlled by MFT you could be out of luck. I also believe Akirby confirmed that the 2013's are getting the same hardware that was installed in in previous generations so any upgrades should work. As for cost, Ford would have to provide them under warranty. After that period no one knows.
  17. Tried searching this out and came up empty. Basically I am wondering if I get my Edge's wifi connected to my home network, can I share the files that are on the car's USB? I don't recall seeing a setting in there to share files but wondering if this is possible. Basically I am planning on connecting our hard drive to the extra port in the console and hiding the drive inside the console too. If this is possible then I could push new files to the USB drive as I buy new music. Obviously the unit would have to be on but that is easy enough to do. I just want to get the drive out of the center armrest before the wife drops/spills something on the drive or breaks the USB port due to the connector sticking out.
  18. Going narrower is common with snow tires. In theory it helps with traction but I have never seen a test showing it made real world differences. Unless of course you do what rally cars do and go much narrower. But the size difference you are talking about is ~1/2" and certainly won't cause any problems.
  19. More than likely you have a 9006 bulb and the base is slightly different compared to a 9012. I think I read somewhere here that they had to rotate the bulbs in the housing slightly to get the cut off right. It could be that the tabs being different allows you to turn the bulb a little too far causing the issue.
  20. I do believe the kit comes with two keys but as far as I know they both work the same. So once they are installed and initialized the auto temp control will work. What I am not sure about is if the system has to be reprogrammed to get this working or if the process of programming the keys (using existing keys) will be enough to have the system completely functional.
  21. Not sure of the thread you were referring to but our dealer quoted us $2400 for a 100k premium care with $100 deductible, can purchase a 125k plan with $50 deductible for ~1600.
  22. What kind of gains can you expect with the off the shelf tunes? Do you have any dyno results? I wouldn't think you'd get much maybe around 10-15hp??
  23. Welcome. We looked at the Cherokee too but the wife found the seats too firm. She loved the design and the two tone interior they offered but just couldn't get comfortable. We didn't even get to the pricing part. We also looked at the MKX and I was pushing her in that direction for a bit, mainly because I liked the cooled seats. But in the end she found an Edge she wanted and that is what we got. This is our first American car (since we were in HS) and so far are pretty pleased with the vehicle. I guess my biggest disappointment is with interior materials (some) and fit and finish. But it isn't bad, just not up to where I would have thought a $35k+ would be. But enjoy the ride, really that is what it is all about.
  24. In the same boat. Wife want me to add it but she can't make up her mind which she wants. 100 benefits are that the button to start the car is on the key but it is 300 foot range and doesn't confirm vehicle started. The 200 series uses a separate fob but extends the distance to 1000 feet and has confirmation. Personally I would rather have the longer range but I am also thinking there is a slight chance that the 100 won't require dealer activation since keys can usually be programmed in the ignition.
