  1. Glad the install went well. Love your idea of going from the engine compartment. Unfortunately my shorter arms and fingers wouldn't allow for that. So happy you and your wife are enjoying the new DRLs. I just uploaded an unlisted and unedited YouTube installation video I took yesterday. I didn't want to delay getting it up until I edited out the dog barks and bloopers. It's about 22 minutes long, so get out your popcorn :-).

  2. KC, will the auto headlight feature on the Edge work with your new HID kits?

Yes, my HID kit works perfectly with the auto-on headlight setting. There are no "false starts" (one or both HID bulbs won't start when engine is turned on). There is also no bulb flicker.

I had my HID kit manufacturer make a kit specifically designed to eliminate all of the common problems normally associated. I had components added the electronic ballasts that are not usually found on universal kits.

Dang. I want on your email list! Already ordered the TRS kit, KC, but my dad drives a Taurus. Looks like that's a kit for a Civic, but do they use the same bulb. 9005? If I here back from you in an hour, I may be able to cancel the other order :worship:

Sorry, just read your post. Hope I'm not too late. I stock all of the common bulb sizes (9005, 9006, 9012, H8, H9, H11). We offer them in 5000K & 6000K. We are choosing not to carry the warmer white 4300K colors because the trend in newer cars is a cooler OEM headlight color in the 5000K range. Especially in the new LED only OEM headlights (ie: Acura).

  3. Just an FYI, I just finished adding a new product to our www.DriveBright.com web store. It's a new 35W HID Kit. Check it out. I'll be posting a new thread announcing them in the next few days. It is an excellent kit and works perfectly on the Edge (no flicker or false starts) GUARANTEED. Lifetime warranty as well. Here's the link: http://drivebright.com/home/shop/hid-headlight-replacement-kit-new/

  4. Sorry for taking so long to chime in on this. Can't seem to find the time to check out the forum as much as I had in the past. As mentioned, we have experienced some moisture issues with the first version. We narrowed it down to two areas. One was the plug opening in the back of the DRL and the other was the lens seal. The new version now has an integrated wire harness and plug that now powers and controls the DRL operation and eliminates the plug connection.

The lens seal leak was being caused by the housing material being too flexible in relation to the rigid clear lens material. The housing would flex with heat and stress, but the lens would not. Over time the flexing could cause a gap to open and possibly allow water to enter under the lens. We now make the housing out of a more rigid material eliminating the flexing and curing the leaking issue.

We have had these new versions out in the field for about 6 months now and have not had a single water leak. I can't thank you all enough for helping me troubleshoot these issues. I am totally amazed at how eager you all were to help me work this all out. I count myself lucky to have such wonderful people to work with and consider many of you as friends.

As many of you understand, there can be some growing pains when developing a new product. But with the invaluable information and help you all provided me, we now have a very reliable and even better performing product for our Ford Edge. As many of you have stated, I do stand by my products. I was always taught that you treat others as you would want them to treat you and that carries over into my business. If something's not right, you can damn well be sure I will do everything possible to make it right.

  5. I had the same propane smell in a 2005 Suburban we once owned. Took it in twice while under warranty, but the dealer never figured out what was causing it. About 16,000 miles after the warranty expired, we were pulling a 28' camper over one of the continental divides in the Rockies and on the way down the rear end developed a funky humming sound. We stopped at the closest GM dealer and when he opened the rear differential cover, the garage filled with the worst smell of propane. The gears had ground themselves down to a slurry of metal shavings. They had to put in a new rear end. The repair was covered under warranty since there was documentation of the two earlier dealer visits about the propane smell. THANK GOD! Be sure they open the covers and check the drive train thoroughly.

  6. A multi layer spray coating with a professional tint finish and quality clear coat is best method and will last the longest. I don't mean using the tint out of the can. Unless you have your own paint spray equipment and are very good applying even coats, you will want to have a paint shop do it for you. Prepping the lights is the most important step and two coats of quality clear coat at the end is too.

We use a great paint shop to have the smoke tint applied to our SPORT LED Taillights. Film will become scuffed and hazy over time due to washing and UV.

  7. It looks like the issue CMOS was having with the brake lights dimly flashing on and off with the turn signals, is being caused by a miswired towing wire harness that was installed a couple years back. Our LED tail light wiring (brake light and parking/position) is totally isolated from the turn signal circuit, so there is no way for the power from the turn signals to bleed into our wiring unless the stock wiring is faulty. Having both taillights experiencing the brake light flashing is also a clue that there is something weird going on with the vehicle power feeding the LED tails.

  8. We now offer a Courtesy Light adapter wire for the EDGE-2 DRLs. This allows our DRL kits to perform the same way as the stock accent lights did. Click on the picture of our webpage below to go right to it. Instructions are just below that.

We recommend only using our harness. Damage to the kit due to improper wiring will void the warranty.

  9. Hey Travis, the OEM lights you are wanting to use as DRLs are not designed to be used in the daytime. The light output is too low for them to be seen in sunlight. Ford designed them to be used at night as an accent Light. This is why these accent lights are activated by the headlight switch.

Only an aftermarket product specifically designed as a DRL will perform this function.

  10. Thanks again for the excellent discussion about our EDGE-2 LED DRL kit.

We recently made several improvements to the electronic controller, upgraded amber LEDs and DRL housing of our original EDGE-2 DRL kit (EDGE-2v1). The new EDGE-2v2 kit is very similar to the original in function and installation.

Here are my responses to some of your questions:

My instructions got damaged during the install and Dan sent me a PDF of the instructions

(We are revising the instructions and will be posting a downloadable copy of the install instructions to this post when they are finished)

A couple of things I noticed during the install:

-The YouTube video of the install is of V1 and not this version as it is a little different.

(we are working on a new install video, but the current video still gives a very good idea of what is involved)

-The actual lights are labeled LH and RH but they actually go in the opposite side

(The company who made the plastic injection molding tools for us accidentally mislabeled the dies, but as was mentioned, there is only one way to put each light in)

-There is no example or suggestion on what to do with the "brain" box. In the video of the V1 version, it shows it to use a firewall screw/clip, but I don't think that is am option with this box.

(We have added this to the instructions. Thanks for bringing this to our attention)

In addition to the yellow wire for the passenger side needing to be about 1 foot longer, I think the other yellow wire and white wire could use about 1 more foot also. I was able to strip the electrical tape off the wire harness that I had to tap into, and therefore was able to make the connection several inches back allowing just enough slack to mount the box where I wanted it.

(We will be increasing the length of all of the wires on the next manufacturing run to allow for more controller mounting position options. It is very simple to add a piece of 18-20 gauge wire to increase the length).

I mounted the box on top of the fuse cover, allowing a bit of slack in the wires so the cover could still be opened with no problem.

(This is where I have mounted mine. It doesn't interfere with anything and has plenty of clearance between it and the closed hood.)

If you want the EDGE-2 DRL's to work as the factory DRL's did you'll need to hook it up this way: (this will allow your DRL's to be on ONLY if parking and/or headlights are on)

    1) Long yellow wire from control box connects to passenger side YELLOW/PURPLE parking light wire

    2) Shorter yellow wire from control box connects to drivers side BLUE/GREEN parking light wire

    3) Red wire from control box connects to battery +, Black to battery -

    3) White wire from control box can do 1 or 2 things.... a) keep unhooked and DRL white lights will always be 100% brightness.. or B) what ever you splice it to it'll be 70% brightness when that function is on. ie. hook it to high beam, they'll dim on high beam, hook to low beam like the kit suggests, the lights will dim when low beam is on, hook to parking lights, they'll be 70% when parking lights are on, etc..

    4) Red Wire with FUSE from control box hooks to the middle parking light wire on the drivers side.

Hooking the fuse red wire to the middle of the 3 parking light wires will make the DRL's turn on if your parking lights or headlights are on.. Basically this fuse wire is the main power source wire. So whatever function you hook this wire too, the lights will turn on.

(This is exactly right. Automatic on/off DRL function will no longer work. DRLs will now have to be manually switched on with the headlight switch and the parking lights will be on when the DRLs are on. The DRL turn signals will not function if the parking lights / DRLs are not on)

That's really interesting. Do your Edge2 lights work as white DRLs (on all the time when the ignition is on)? I had asked about the possibility of having the white DRL turn off on the one side while the turn signals were on so that it would only flash amber instead of alternating amber/white but I was told it couldn't be done.

(At the time we first talked about this turn signal lighting sequence, the EDGE-2v2 was not being developed. Many customers asked for this turn signal sequence, so since we were already redesigning the electronic controls, we made the change)

EDIT: I have seen the OEM pipe lights referred to as DRLs and as fog lights. They are neither. They are hardly as bright as side marker lamps (about 3 candlepower) and are nothing more than decoration.

(Ford designed the OEM light pipe lamps to be an accent light to be used at night only and not to function as a DRL. This is the reason these accent lights are switched on and off with the parking / headlights)

I have had two different sets - the originals from the pre-order before the first shipment arrived and a replacement set that were more heavily waterproofed because we had a problem with water intrusion. Both had the white/amber switchback turn signal function so it sounds like there is a third version that has amber only flashing.

(We did have some water issues with the first EDGE-2v1 version. We took steps to eliminate them on the original EDGE-2v1s. The light housing in the EDGE-2v1 had a tendency to flex. This would sometimes cause the seal between the hard clear lens and the flexible housing to allow moisture to enter. The new EDGE-2v2s now uses a more rigid black plastic housing that will not flex keeping allowing a very stable long lasting seal with the lens.)

Hope this makes things a bit clearer. Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. As I mentioned earlier, I don't have a lot of time to check the forum, so if you have any questions you would like to ask me, please shoot me an email at info@daytimebrightlites.com. You are welcome to post the answers I give you here on the thread.

    Many thanks,

    Dan Smith

  11. Thanks for the PM Wiz. I have not had much time to keep an eye on the forum lately, so your heads up is very helpful. I'm currently traveling and not able to post a detailed reply right now, but I will by tomorrow. Great discussion by the way. Lot's of good information and very helpful feedback on possible improvements to instructions and wiring methods to provide additional function variations. Check back tomorrow for my reply.

  12. Never use a heat gun! Only the oven method. No more than 260 degrees for 8-10. Then slowly work open the lens. When the lamp cools, stick it back into the one for 5 minutes and continue prying. Key is to keep the lamp warm and taking your time.

We are actually developing a blacked out reflector version of our EDGE LED taillight. I'm hoping to have a prototype finished in a couple of weeks. I'll post a picture here when it's finished.

  13. Hi guys, My LED taillights do have reflector strips. See photo below. The lights also have a chrome reflector under the red lens that reflects light well when the taillights are off. Not that it would matter with my LED taillight, but wannabang is right, no officer would pull you over for having an undamaged taillight not having a reflector designed into into it. My LED Taillights also do not look as if they are a non-OEM aftermarket light. Their desgin and quality of the manufacturing is as good as any factory stock light out there.

I have never seen or heard of an Edge with a stock third brake light having your pulsing effect. You may want to check into whether or not you are having a problem with the electrical system.

  14. Hi guys, the Ford EDGE has a very flaky electrical system, as many of you are well aware of (especially HID kit users). I have found that about 10% of the Edges that have had my LED kits installed into experience a hyperflash issue. The other 90% don't have any problems at all, including me. (I have them installed in my EDGE). Some customers have been able to eliminate the hyperflash by performing these steps: 1) Flip the LEDs 180 degrees, 2) switch the LEDs from one side to the other, and 3) Move the front LEDs to the rear and the rear LEDs to the front.

If none of these cure the hyperflash, I am sending customers a set of resistors at no charge to attach to the turn signal wires (very simple to do with no wire cutting or splicing). The resistors will definitely eliminate the hyperflash.

Vortechtrol, try these steps and if they still hyperflash, shoot me an email at info@DAYTIMEBrightLites and I will send you a set of resistors.

  15. Hi toast1850. Not sure if you have already purchased the OEM lights, but you may be interested in my EDGE-2 LED daytime running light kit. It is a perfect solution for EDGE SE owners who want to upgrade their blank plastic covers to a super bright true DRL. Unlike having to splice into the factory wiring that you have to do to get the OEMs to work, my EDGE-2 DRL kit comes with an included wire harness and controller that connects to the battery terminals. No wire cutting or splicing.

Here is a link to another forum thread about my DRLs and the EDGE SE: http://www.fordedgeforum.com/topic/12945-edge-se-owners-you-can-have-led-daytime-running-lights-on-your-se/
