  1. Vent windows! I wonder what the last car with vent windows was.
  2. I usually have to play around to equalize things depending on how far down the window is and how fast I am going, but generally I have found that both front windows have to be open to some degree if a back window is lowered.
  3. Wow! This explains at least one of the inconsistencies between my personal "review" of my '12 Limited and the Consumer Reports review. I had no idea there were sound-deadening differences between models. Their review talks about "pronounced " road noise and I have never understood that. I only drove the vehicle I bought, not other trim lines.
  4. I think I have only done it once , but I hooked a bungee cord into one of the pockets on the bottom edge of the door. It held fine for me for the couple of miles between Lowes and home.
  5. Unless the door has tangible symptoms of being hard to close or not closing completely (won't latch, won't latch completely, visibly not closed all the way, etc), I would suspect the switch (not sure of the setup on our vehicle as it appears it is inside the door and not something external you can press to test). Slamming the door really hard just hurts other parts of the door.
  6. According to etrailer, the carrier that sits the farthest away from the car when folded is the DrawTite 6502. They say it sits 7.5" from the center of the pin when folded. This appears to be at least a couple inches more than other folding models. On my 2012 Limited with DrawTite hitch, it appears I have about 5.5" between the center of pin and the edge of bumper. Theoretically, I'll have 2" of space if I get that model. Now I just need to decide if I absolutely must get a folding model. If I do, it looks like it will have to be the 6502.
  7. I installed my 2012 within the first couple thousand miles and found the isolators to be a real pain to remove even using WD-40. Part of it was probably the lack of leverage on a creeper, but those things were a real hassle and what took the longest.
  8. I had a nice trip of exactly that distance this weekend. Averaging around 70, I got exactly 25 mpg in my 2012 with 5,500 miles on the odometer. I'm also happy it runs on regular gas.
  9. I have the Sony and it certainly sounds better than the stock system. It looks cool too. Sorry, but I can't give an audiophile review. Of course, it is easy enough to go to a dealer and try both out and compare with a CD of the type of music you like to listen to.
  10. Forgive me if this has been covered before, but I did try searching first. My 2012 Limited has the Intelligent Access key fob and I have found that especially during the summer when I have more in my pockets (no coat) that I accidentally set off my panic alarm fairly frequently. One time I was sitting in a restaurant thinking "who's the jerk with the car alarm going off" when someone called out, "anyone have a white Ford Edge?" I was unable to find a way to disable the feature, so I have taken care of the button itself. Since I am sure there are many others who have the same problem, I'll share the very easy fix. 1) To start, follow the instructions in the manual for opening the remote to replace the battery. 2) After removing the back, you'll see the circuit board with the buttons on the other side. Remove the silver trim piece by pushing the buttons while holding the trim. 3) Separate the rubber panel of buttons from the circuit board 4) On the back of each button is a round contact that coincides with a copper contact on the circuit board. Attach a small (large enough to cover the round contact but not large enough to interfere with other buttons or reassembly) piece of tape to the contact on the panic button. 5) Reassemble You have now easily deactivated your panic button in a way that is reversible by merely removing the tape. Time Elapsed: 2-3 minutes Downside: Panic button doesn't work Upside: Panic button doesn't work
  11. 2012 Limited. Happens here too sometimes.
  12. I'm talking about the engine cooling fan behind the radiator that is on pretty much whenever the AC is on. I've never tried the "auto" on the climate system except as it is programmed to come on with a remote start. I do look forward to a frosty car after work as the remote works from my office.
  13. Really? I'll need to pay closer attention being a newer owner but I could have sworn that if the fan is on and I turn off the AC the fan goes off immediately.
  14. You don't need to, but I prefer to have the compressor run only when I want to to- cooling or defrost. Gas mileage would be the main reason, but extra wear on the applicable components is certainly another. Oh, and there's the tornado-sounding cooling fan that comes on too...
  15. The main reason I didn't even bother test driving an EcoBoost. Plus, even brand new I am getting way better mileage than my old MDX. Plus, the Edge uses regular gas.
  16. I am betting that one day someone smart is going to figure all this out and make upgrading to Nav a free, but illegal, option. I think it would serve Ford well to start selling upgrades.
  17. KC, Yes, I have seen your video and your original thread. The video is very helpful in letting you know how exactly to safely remove the trim. I couldn't find your thread to post to. I now see it is under "exteriors."
  18. Here are some pics from mounting my phone in my 2012 Limited a few weeks ago (note the old software). Removing the trim, installing the mount, and reinstalling the trim is a 5 minute job. It took a couple extra minutes to run the wire and drill a small hole in a trim piece so the wire could run concealed all the way into the console. The mount was a Panavise (751072811) In Dash Mount for 2011 Ford Edge. I ordered direct from them. You'll need to have whatever cradle and wiring that works for your specific phone. The panavise item is just a metal bracket with a generic flat plate to which you bolt your accessory. Phone is Motorola Atrix (not shown as it was what I took the photos with).
  19. Sorry if the lighting is not so great. I got the Draw Tite 75709 for my 2012 Limited from etrailer. You only see the receiver and the little plate where you can attach a wiring harness/box. There is no need to cut out the trim. The very middle gets pushed up maybe an inch and there is no way you would notice this unless you were looking for it AND were looking at it from ground level. Installation was not anything technically difficult and it took less than an hour. The hardest parts were getting the rubber muffler hangers loose and fishing the wires through the bolt holes and that was only so because of the somewhat awkward position laying under the car on a creeper. I only got this to use a hitch mounted bike rack, so I did not get a wiring harness.
  20. It seems that if the headlights come on from operating the wipers they stay on until you turn off the engine even if you are no longer using the wipers. Anyone know if this is the case?
  21. I'll probably have to do that and would have done it already if it were not in a case that doesn't fit there. I already have all that other stuff stored there. I had also hoped to be able to put a small/thin lockbox (6 x 10 x 2 ) under the front seat, but it doesn't look like I can. I kind of remember a cubby or two on the sides of the cargo area on one of the Edges I looked at, but I guess the subwoofer and/or door opener took up that/those slots.
  22. A headlamp indicator is of course not needed when it is bright or when it is dark. It would be useful to have in the morning or evening during transition times. I guess I'll just look down to see if my foot is illuminated blue (or green, red, orange, etc) to know if the lights are on. I realized perhaps another "con" yesterday. Aside from something thin like a road atlas, you can't really put anything under the seats. Under the front seats, you are either hitting the motors or you are blocking a vent. In back there is plenty of room but when you lower the seatbacks, anything that had any thickness gets crushed. I'm now trying to figure out what to do with my first aid kit.
  23. I have had my 2012 Edge FWD Limited for about a month now. My previous car was a 1st gen Acura MDX. Pro's: Assuming decent reliability and things staying relatively rattle free, I am very satisfied with my purchase. The handling, ride, and mileage are all better than my old Acura. Even with the occasional glitchiness of Sync, I am very happy with it and continue to learn more and use the system without having to think too hard. I look forward to the upcoming update but am happy with what I have now. Con's: There seems to be no "headlight on" indicator. I have mine set to auto and have read in the manual that they DO come on when using wipers, but I'd really appreciate some indication on the dash that the headlights are on. It would seem this could be included in a software update. Automatic climate control: It seems to lack the refinement of my old Acura. I don't know about hot weather yet, but it seems like the air temp is either boiling hot or on the chilly side. I think it could mix the air better. Heated seats: Too warm on "low." "High" is nuclear. "Low" feels like "high" on the Acura. "High" seems it would useful only in the first couple of minutes after starting your car in 0 degree weather. I am pretty sure the high setting will keep that carry out pizza very warm. So far I am quite satisfied with my purchase and don't regret saving $15K by not getting a new MDX.
  24. I've had my 2012 Limited FWD for about a month now and so far have found the tank to have about 1.5 gallons in it when the computer says "0" miles left.
