  1. VERY frustrated! So my dealer removed and reinstalled the fuel tank...all ok. The mechanic found no problem. At my suggestion we drove a similar 2011 AWD Limited. He agreed it was much more quiet than my 2011 AWD Limited. The rumble is similar to the sound of an unloaded trailer or an empty panel van. It is significantly louder than my 2008 Edge, my brother's 2001 FWD Edge and My friend's 2010 Edge AWD Limited. What bugs me is that the low frequency rumble is very annoying. It is also odd that the exhaust also is intermittently louder at idle than the other Edges I mentioned. The dealer said the exhaust checked out . He did notice that my tire pressure was high...40 and 36 psi. lowering pressure reduced the volume but not the frequency of the rumble. The dealer continues to work on the Edge. Any ideas?
  2. Just got a 2011 Edge Ltd AWD. It replaced a 2008. It is a nicer car with one very troubling noise. When driven at low speed, the slightest pavement irregularity results in a low frequency boom. A kind of rumbling sound. The booming also occurs when stopping on smooth .pavement. It can be heard on the highway but is drowned out by road noise. My wife thinks it is from the gas tank She thinks the gas level affects the volume of sound. The exhaust and suspension mounts all look good. Rapping the gas tanks results in a rattle and sounds somewhat like the boom to anyone in the vehicle. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Final Update. 9/9/11 PROBLEM SOLVED!! There was damage to the front muffler ! Probably happened in transit since the noise was there when I took delivery. That also explains why no one else reports the problem. Along the way I learned that the '11 exhaust does have some annoying noise at idle even when undamaged. The dealer tells me that later '11's have a different system. Thanks to all who helped.
  3. Update...Got my VIN...2/8/11 build date! Took about 2 weeks longer than my dealer originally anticipated. Not bad considering the December shut down and weather delays.
  4. Nice...How much did it cost you? My wife has a red Limited coming in a few weeks.
  5. Just read a Ford story on the retiree newsletter. Edges are turning over in 16 days on dealer lots. MKX's are going even faster. Great news for Edge fans...unless you are waiting anxiously like me.
  6. March or later delivery sounds about right for my late November order. Not happy, but as a Ford stock holder I hope it is a good sign.
  7. Ordered an Edge Limited on November 26. Dealer now reports that I may not get the car until March! The dealer is reliable. The Edge has not been scheduled! Is there a problem or is this just the way it is today? I have ordered many cars. 5 to 8 weeks was typical.
  8. You should never place a winter mat over the factory mat. That defeats the anchor and could jam the pedals during a sudden stop. Both Ford and Weathertech warn agaist the practice.
  9. I had the same issue. I carefully cleaned the ducts after removing the air filter. Did not help. Finally I traced the problem to my wiper blades! The rubber held a mold odor. Especially bad if the Edge was parked in full sun. The odor had been overpowering at times.
  10. Same problem on my '08. I just repeated the process starting with the ignition off, key out and opening and shutting the door (to assure I was backing out of the system entirely). it worked on the 4th try.
  11. I agree. Option price on the Explore is $995.according to Edmunds.com.
  12. Not always true, but you are probably correct. I have watched your posts and know that you are a reliable and helpful contributor. Regular can significantly reduce mileage in an engine tuned for premium. My 1.8 turbo Passat was down 5 to 10% if regular was used. 5% is typical in testing I saw a few years ago (can't recall the source). I'm not knocking the 2.0. It is my preference. But if the option price is more than $500., or so, it may not make sense. The 185 hp 3.5 gets great mileage for '11 and is smooth with a sporty exhaust note. It is possible to build a fairly smooth 2 liter 4. I'm hoping Ford got it right.
  13. Ford. It is on the 2011 Explorer web site. The list of features shows the 2.0L with that specification
  14. the 2.0 Ecoboost in the Explorer requires premium. 237 hp, 250 fp. It is also an extra cost option and is not available with awd. If this holds true for the Edge, the much improved 3.5 may be the most cost efficient choice in actual use.
  15. Thanks! My wife will be pleased. I'm surprised that these 2 sites got it wrong.
  16. Was about to order a 2011 LImited to replace my wife's 2008. According to KBB.com and Edmunds.com the power lift gate is no longer available without the 301A package - moonroof, HID lights, nav, driver's entry option...$3,500!! Mywife does not want a sunroof ! She never uses the one on our '08. It also rattles and is expensive! If this is true I'll look at a Chevy! As a Ford stockholder I'm really shocked. In '10 you could get the power liftgate on the SEL model. Why limit this feature to the most expensive model with a $3500 pack?! Any thoughts?
  17. Thanks! That makes sense.
  18. Not a word on specs or availability! Also not shown as available or delayed availability in the order guide. Will we see this before 2012 MY? I suspect there is a problem with output or nvh! Any thoughts?
  19. The order guide has been out for a few weeks and job 1 is 7/1/10. What is holding up pricing?
  20. Order Guide is in! No prices as of 3/16/10. Source is my dealer. Thanks, Grey! Your info is always accurate!
  21. When will 2011 order guide be available?
  22. Glad it worked well for you. Lack of a shut-off really irritated my wife (it is her car). I also like the look of the vertical vanes.
