  1. Easy to do. With the outer vents there are release tabs, but I found it easier to pop out the louvers with a pliers and collapse the housing. Then they pull straight out. The new ones snap in. The center vents are even easier. The trim piece aroung the radio that holds the vents pulls straight out. There are no screws. May be helpful to pry with a plastic pry. I was able to do it with my fingers, alone. It is easy. If you are nervous about it, check radio install posts for details. The vents screw into the back of trim piece. Lastly, if your SE trims the vents with a different color trim, the trim pops off very easily...but the trim is a bit flimsy...take your time.
  2. Thanks! I like it. Interested in details on the interior upgrade.
  3. I heard (don't remember where) that the 2011 Edge was supposed to show up at the L A Auto show (12/4/2009). If any one sees it there please report. It is not listed on the web-site as being there, but that doesn't mean it is not there.
  4. From Ford. I'm a guest member of their retiree club. Although I read the newsletter carefully, perhaps I misunderstood or it was not accurate! There was no mention of the Fiesta,C-max or other early 11's. Your reply makes sense.
  5. I know some of you have driven this car.... I am not looking for "spy photos" just general impressions. Is it worth waiting for?
  6. Today Ford allowed retirees to drive 2010's. The 2011 Edge/MKX was supposed to be available. If a retiree could please post their impressions.... I am especially interested in interior upgrades/changes. We all wonder about the Ecoboost...3.5 or 2.0 (or both?) Obviously, there may be limits on what can be said or shown, but general comments should be fine. I love my '08 but am ready to upgrade!
  7. It's good to have a devil's advocate. Mods are sometimes difficult and not always worth the cost. Nevertheless, just last Friday that little mirror disclosed a car I missed in spite of taking great care. It's standard on '09's and up for good reason.
  8. Thanks for looking, Lex. I have less trouble than my wife. She has the lights on max! The guage cluster design does promote glare. Can't tint a windshield in my state (and the state patrol likes to use it as a pretext to stop and search). I'll try a florescent line on the crome ring. A little extra contrast should help.
  9. Absolutely! Dealer paint sealer = good "wax" (hopefully) applied by the lowest paid employee...usually untrained.
  10. Pictures! Note how when there is glare at twilight that wipes out the guages. These particular photos show the transition from daylight to full darkness. Note the fuel and temperature guages. At other times and angles the speedometer is wiped out, but you get the idea. Thoughts?
  11. Wax will not prevent rust (maybe a little). It will reduce or prevent oxidation of the paint surface and damage due to grit, tree sap, bugs minor chips, etc. Which car would you want as a used car? Regular cleaning and waxing is the safe bet.
  12. Lex, There is a chrome ring around the speedometer. An 1/8th inch strip of tape at 60, 70 and 80 on the ring will be far more visible than the washed out numeral. Marking the chrome ring of a tachometer (for the "red line") or speedometer used to be a common practice. If I do it I will post a picture. Thanks for your continuing interest.
  13. This is all personal preferrence, but I agree with Lex. Minor mods have significantly added to the enjoyment, safety and utility of my Edge and Fusion Hybrid. (I.e., blind spot mirrors, flip keys, modified pedals, side moldings, and lighting improvements to name a few) Some installations are fun, but many are tedious. I commend Lex and others for their leadership, creativity and willingness to document their efforts.
  14. Part of the problem is her commute; mornings into the sun and afternoon into the setting sun. As I said...no problem with any of our cars in the past! She is trying to get a picture to document the issue. Recent overcast has made that impossible! I do appreciate that you checked! I may put a small piece of florescent tape at the 60,70 and 80 numerals. Picures soon Lex!
  15. Great! I've had that problem repeatedly. If the fix works, I'll get it done.
  16. 2011 Edges will be available for Ford retirees to "test drive"in a couple of weeks. There are Ford retirees on this forum. If any of you get the chance please check this out. (I'm also curious...Ecoboost 2.0 or 3.5?)
  17. She agrees with you. The photos are coming. Her last 2 cars were a Lexus RX400h and a Mercedes. She expects cars to be thoroughly engineered. This is a problem unique to the Edge. I'm not a Ford basher. My daily driver is a Fusion Hybrid. That dash is clear under the same conditions.
  18. 20 - 20 and a rock-head! At twilight the lights go on but the dash lights seem to delay in switching to a brighter mode. I don't have a problem but males tend to have better low light vision. I will ask the dealer. As this forum shows...this is not an unique complaint!
  19. My wife is unable to see speedometer markings at twilight. Since this affects her commute (40 minutes each way) she is not happy! This is complicated because her commute is east in the morning and west at night. Sun glare is a problem! Her solution is to put black tape at the 60, 70 and 80 markers. Not too impressive for a $39,000. car!! Her last two cars did not have this issue. She wants to dump the car! Any thoughts!
