  1. Love the color... just hard to wax/polish because I can't see where I've been and if I got everything off. Topped it off with a coat of wax last night and it looks pretty good. I used a wax I bought for my wife's truck many years ago and it always worked well so I used it for the Edge. It is a Dupont Teflon wax that says it also has carnuba in it. The microfiber towels didn't have enough bite to get it off once it hazed so I used a terry towel with gentile side to side motions to remove it. Will give it a final buff tonight with a micro fiber towel. Last thing to do is just do the black trim with Turtle Wax ice and one final leather treatment and the wife can be on here way. Took a few quick pics on my way out this morning. Last pic shows the good reflection of my Honda Fit sitting in the driveway outside. One thing I've noticed with the entire prep/cleaning process... WHAT'S UP WITH ALL THE ORANGE PEEL? Is this normal for Ford products? You can easily see orange peel on every panel of the truck. Worst I've seen on any car I've ever owned and need to know if this is within Ford's tolerance. Thanks!
  2. I'm up to meet up Joe! Let me know if in the area. Edgie, where in Bergen are you? I was in Rutherford (right next to Giants Stadium for 26 years) and then moved down here 10 years ago. Spent years of my life sitting in traffic up there on Rt. 3, 46, 17. Spent a lot of time at the Garden State Mall, Willowbrook Mall, took a few summer classes at BCC and Montclair State. Drove up to Rutheford a week ago for the first time in about 5 years for a funeral. Looks completely different up there! Mark
  3. Forgot to mention, there was one thing I was disappointed with. I was excited because we ordered a 2013 and in 2012 they started producing the headrests with the tilt feature. When you get the DVD headrests, the head rest is a completly different unit and much larger then the standard pieces. My head rests do not tilt and are stationary in that forward facing format that is a little uncomfortable. I asked the sales guy and new car manager and they didn't know about it since DVD players don't seem to be common in the Edge but they couldn't get them to tilt backward. When we opened the trunk, there was a box and it had the standard headrests which have the tilting mechanism. At least they gave them to me just in case I ever want to get rid of the DVD players. After looking at the standard units, they sales guy and manger came to the conclusion there isn't room in the rests due to the space the players occupy inside so I'm stuck with tilting rests that I can't use. 4. Hi all, I'm not new to the forum and have been on here a bit researching prior to purchase and have posted a bit but it is official, we are now Edge owners. We picked up the Edge this past Saturday and it has been in the garage because I'm currently cleaning, sealing with Collinite 845 and waxing. I gave the leather 2 separate applications of Meguires Gold Class leather cleaner and conditioner. It seems to feel softer and recover quicker now that it is conditioned so I may put a third on later this week. I just want to prevent those ugly gray/light colored cracks and creases as leather ages especially sinc the interior is black. It's the wife's new car but she doesn't want to drive it yet since I haven't finished protecting it and we got snow last night and will get more tonight and throughout the week. She said she would feel terible if she drove it and it got all dirty after seeing how much time I've been spending on it with more still to go Anyway, we basically optioned it out to my wife's liking and I have to say, I was very surprised at how quickly the numbers rose to my MSRP. 2013 SEL FWD V6 Black Leather Comfort Package (Group 205A) Vista Roof My Ford Touch (no navigation) 20 inch chromies Dual Headreset DVD Players power liftgate illuminated door sills My MSRP was $40,505. I chose not to go with Ford Credit's crappy interest rate so I lost $1000.00 in incentives. I received $3250.00 in incentives which included a $750.00 private cash coupon. Got 2.49% financing through B of A. We placed a custom order since there are none around with DVD players. After I placed my order I called back a couple days later and had them add the power liftgage and illuminated door sills to the order. They forgot to update the paperwork to add these extra $800 in options to my order and they didn't want to go back and redo the paperwork on saturday so I got those free. Basically, I guess I got about $4000.00 in incentives. After incentives and 7% sales tax, I think I was out the door at about $37k and change. I was x-plan but the dealership was selling the car to me below invoice and cheaper than the x-plan price. Dealer was nice and didn't try to pressure me into anything but did offer the ESP plan but showed them my paperwork from Flood Ford and A/K showing better rates for a 6 year/125,000 mile warranty. They said they would match the price but I declined because I pointed out I would pay sales tax on their offer but not from the online offers. I'll purchase the extended plan prior to her reaching 12,000 miles. They also offered me another plan for wheels, paint, interior etc. They offered it to me for $895 which included wheels/tires, paint and interior protection, free key replacements and free dent removal among other things. I was on the fence about it and they then offered it to me for $795. I think I may go back and pick up this coverage just for the wheel protection and dent removal. It is the wife's car and she parks among the masses and I'm sure will get door dings. She also drives 80+ miles a day so if she gets a couple door dings and a flat tire here and there it may pay for itself... The plan is for 5 years and unlimited mileage which is why this is attractive to me. Other plans I've been exposed to were 5 year/60,000 miles which aren't worth it for her since she drives between 20 and 22 thousand miles a year but since this is unlimited I think I can get my money out of it and maybe more. Thoughts? Anyway, wife is excited and she is happy that she has a car she can now "talk to". She sat in it in the garage for about 45 minutes last night syncing her iphone, making voice commands, listening to music from her iphone and making calls through it. She said the only thing that would have made it better would to have the drivers entry package with the push botton start and automatic entry without having to putz around with the key fob. Don't understand why that isn't an option for the SEL when it is on the Canadian models... Happy wife = happy life! Cheers and thanks for all the advice while I researched! Mark
  5. Thanks Joe, I grew up in Bergen County but moved down to Burlington County about 10 years ago. I'm located in Burlington TWP, about 20-25 minutes from Philadelphia. Mark
  6. Hi Rich, I think I remember seeing your post on the Collinite 845 thread on Autogeek. I think the OP was named Mike and your avatar looks familiar. I didn't do anything last night as we got home late so I got to work today and spent about 6 hours so far. First I conditioned the leather with 2 separate applications and then did the rest of the interior. Next I moved onto the exterior and wiped the truck down with Meguires Quick Detailer to get rid of anything sitting on the paint. I didn't clay it because the the surface was pretty clean and felt like glass. Truck was just built and delivered for us so it hasn't been sitting for months. Moved on and applied Meguires polish. Removed that with microfiber towels Next I got ready for the Collinite. I had it sitting in a bucket of hot water all day and kept replacing the water throughout the day to ensure it stayed in a liquid state. I kept shaking periodically and when I was ready to apply I shook it for a bit and it was like water. I put a couple dabs on my foam applicator pad and dabbed the panel in various places and then worked that panel very lightly with the pad. I got about three panels out of each time a put a few dabs on the applicator pad and knew I had to put it on thin. I did the rear windows, all side windows, the BAMR, Truck, headlights, taillights, front grille, inside door jambs and the chrome 20s with it and looking at the bottle I can't even tell I used any because I applied as thinly as possible, It was only about 33 degrees here today so I did this all in my garage and put my portable heaters in there to keep me warm and dry the waxes. It was about 60 degrees in the garage when I was doing this and the Collinite finally did haze and left no residue once I wiped my finger across the surface so I knew it was ready to be removed. I let it sit for about 45 minutes before removing since it was cold here and I think it was ready. It was REALLY easy to remove and I thought it would be tougher to removed but it came off easily on all surfaces and I only used one decent sized microfiber towel to remove it from the entire truck. It was much easier to remove compared to other liquid waxes (maybe because I didn't cake it on). It looks good and feels good to the touch. I didn't have a chance to wax yet but will follow up with a Meguires Carnuba liquid wax. Here's to hoping this will be acceptable protection for what my wife will subject the truck to!!! Mark
  7. Thanks, I did a little reading online and came to a bunch of threads on AutoGeek. Basically they describe the following steps: 1. Wash 2. Clay Bar 3. Polish 4. Collinite 845 applied very thin with a foam applicator pad. Removed with microfiber towel 5. Apply a good carnuba wax (optional and not necessary) Since we are picking up the car new, the dealership should have it washed and clean for us. I'll test the surface to see if I need to clay bar it but hopefully I can avoid that step and go straight to the polish. I plan to polish, 845 and then wax. I'm going to use it on the wheels and do all windows except the windshield. I read the windshield with collinite may bind the wipers. Wife should be good to go after I follow this process. Mark
  8. Hi, never used a sealant before and just have a few questions if you don't mind. We are taking delivery of my wife's new Edge tomorrow and I'm taking it home immediately and will start to protect it since it should be nice and clean when we pick it up from the dealership. I tracked down the Collinite 845 insulator wax based on a recommendation I saw here and just need to know the process. It says it is an "insulator wax" indicating that it has a wax within. I would just like to know if I should just apply the insulator wax and be done with it? Will that provide all the paint protection I need or do I use the insulator wax first, then put a few coats of good carnuba wax afterwards? Or vice versa, should I wax first then insulate with the Collinite? Just don't know the proper steps to follow and how many steps I need to perform to get it nice and protected. I'm planning on doing the paint, chrome wheels and windows with this so any help is appreciated. Thanks! Mark
  9. Are you losing all your incentives? I thought you said you had to pay 4 payments with FMC in order to keep all the incentives you received.
  10. Same here, I normally don't do the extra coverage. I've only owned hondas and when I did purchase the extra plans, I never needed them. Going from Honda to Ford, I'm a little worried about reliablility and since the Ford is so packed with technology and LCD screens I figured I will go for the Premium care package. I won't be going through my dealer though. I think I'm going with a plan from Flood Ford or Anderson and Koch since they offer the plans much cheaper and since they're out of state, I'll save on taxes as well. Also, I believe you don't have to purchase right away. You have the factory 3 year 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty from Ford and as long as you purchase these extended plans on line prior to reaching 3 years or 36,000 miles you're good to go. I'll probably go this route and purchase the plan next year since we are dropping a large down payment on the Edge. Just easier on the wallet to purchase next year or two years down the line since we are protected by the factory warranty in the meantime. Don't worry about the exterior or interior coverage. We're taking delivery of the Edge this Saturday and I'm going home immediately to condition the leather, protect the interior panels and then seal the paint/clear coat. People around here seem to go with a sealant named Collinite 845 and my local Advanced Auto Parts ordered me a bottle which is arriving tonight. Protect the paint, windows and wheels with this and you should be good to go. Water spots shouldn't be an issue using this product. Hope that helps. Mark
  11. Thanks for posting Edgieguy. I searched online and couldn't find a photo that looked different and thought the OP was crazy... The EB skirts look like they have a mini side step. I think I like them more too... Mark
  12. Ford website, when choosing what model to build shows 18/26 for the Sport model and they normally display the FWD versions as they get better gas mileage. What they normally disclose is "up to 18/26" which are the FWD versions. Most Sports are AWD and I believe you have an AWD version which may be the reason for the decreased mileage on your window sticker. The disclosures on the Ford site state the following: For Manufacturer Specific Disclosures See Below 1 Starting MSRP, A, Z and X Plan price is for qualified, eligible A, Z, or X Plan customers and excludes document fee, destination/delivery charge, taxes, title and registration. Optional equipment not included. Not all vehicles qualify for A, Z or X Plan. 2 MPG - EPA estimated base engine/transmission. Hope that helps! Mark
  13. Gotcha, thanks HAZ and JOEHIO. I'll get the rate I would pay over 7 years from Geico and weigh that with the $250 deductable. Just ran the numbers on Anderson and Koch along with Flood Ford. Flood Ford actually came out a bit cheaper than A/K. 2013 FWD Edge Premium Care 6 Year term $0.00 deductible 125,000 mile protection (wife drives about 21,000 miles a year) First day rental - Anyone know how many days they give you a rental? is it up to 10 days? I know the extended rental gives you a larger allowance and up to 10 days. Didn't chose the extended rental A/K price = $2,010 Flood Ford price = $1,980
  14. My wife and I both have over 800 scores and they are telling us 2.99% when we go to pick up ours next week. It looks like either $3,500 in incentives plus the $750 private cash at 2.99% (current incentive plan) or $1750 in incentives plus the $750 private cash at 0% (my grandfathered incentive plan). I'm also most likely going with the extended warranty plan from my insurance company. They offer a 7 year/100,000 "mechanical breakdown" bumper to bumper warranty that covers everything besides wear and tear items. Maybe call your insurance company and ask if they offer this and compare the cost to some of these other programs. Remote Start - not sure on that one. We've never had one and our cars are garaged. If we lived in an apartment complex or a home without a garage I would say go for it and it is probably worth the extra cost. Mark
  15. Your credit score came in over 800 and they could only secure a 6.45% interest rate for you? That doesn't sound right...
  16. My recommendation: Windshield - goo gone and a razor blade Paint - goo gone and a microfiber towel. I've used goo gone on paint to remove sticker residue and sap in the past with no problems on paint. Just dab some on the sap and let it soak in before rubbing. Once it has soaked in, give a slight rub. If it's glopped on, just repeat the process being sure it soaks in as best as possible prior to rubbing. It may take some time and various repetitions but it will eventually come off. Once complete, give the paint area a good wipe with soapy water and rinse with fresh water. Polish then wax the area since the goo gone may remove any protection that is currently sealing your paint. Mark
  17. Sometimes I hate being part of forums... I didn't even notice how ugly the antenna was until I read this thread and searched on the forum to find Dingo's recommendation of the mini antenna. Looks like I'll be spending more money before we even take delivery of the truck. The shorty does look much better though...
  18. Agree, with everything that is wireless, cell lines etc. there is so much interference these days. Take Dingo's advice and go to an open space with as little around as possible and test out the range.
  19. The fee is what it is, you can't get around it because they have to do paperwork to get the car from the other dealership and pay their folks to pick it up and get it for you. If the Edge is the one you want I wouldn't have an issue paying $330 to get the vehicle I want and I don't think you want to get pigeon-holed into a color you aren't happy with and may regret for the years you own it... Another option is just taking a road trip to the dealership that has it and do business directly with them. Final option is what we did. We couldn't find an Edge that had everything we wanted (the rear DVD players don't seem to be a popular option) so we had to order it from the factory. We got every single option we wanted within the class (bought an SEL but only thing I would have added is the driver's entry which isn't available on SEL). We were told 8-12 weeks and were just called yesterday that it came in. Only took 7 weeks for it to be built and arrive even though we had the holidays mixed in so you can get them fast if you have the luxury of being able to wait. Best of all, you can lock into the incentives at the time you ordered and if they get better when your car arrives, you can take advantage of the new incentives and drop the old which is a nice program. Thanks for the clarification on the incentive and best of luck with your decision.
  20. Thanks, I come up with $3500 in incentives as well but I'm just trying to figure out if the $1500 3 payments is that they pay the first three months for you or if they are giving you an additional $1500 to put towards your down payment. It's confusing and doesn't really state what the incentive actually is. I'm trying to figure out if I will be proceeding with the incentives I'm grandfather in with when we placed our Edge order or if the new ones will be better in the long run. Thanks! Mark
  21. Do you know the incentives they gave you? Did you get the $1500 for 3 payments incentive? Do they pay your first three payments or do they give you $1500 to apply towards your downpayment? Thanks! Mark
  22. Looks like you have an Edge Limited which I believe all come with the upgraded Sony system. That is in fact a speaker in the center dash and is 3.5" in size. Same size as the ones that are in the trunk area on the sides of the liftgate glass. Mark
  23. Although I've read that if your water pump needs to be replaced it is ridiculously expensive due to an internal design. A lot of the engine needs to be torn apart to get to the pump and I've read it is a couple K to replace.
  24. Are the wheels alloy and chrome plated or are they chrome clad?
  25. Ditto, I tried to hang in there and read the whole thing but gave up too so I have no advice.
