  1. You are correct. At the time they were introduced for production by Jon Moss for the 94-96 production years, it wasn't really on anyone's radar as a "must have." Only the gear heads really knew about it. After all it was a land yacht weighing in at over 2 tons but a 4 door sedan with an LT-1 ... it surprised many unsuspecting cars at the stop light. It still retains its popularity with collectors. I just love the car. It's not a "sports car" but it sure can boogie down the road! It's a car that exudes attitude in a subtle way.
  2. I had the opportunity to drive along with a buddy without the tow package. He was towing a 19' center console with a 150hp outboard Mercruiser hanging off the back. Trailer and boat easily came close to 3000lbs with gear and gas. The Edge did fine (Limited AWD). We towed it on a 100+mile trip averaging 60 mph on the highway. The fact that the trailer had a surge system for brakes really helped. He had the setup that I am putting on my edge, for towing. Class 3 hitch Four pin wiring HD Ttranny cooler (w/fan) Tranny Temp gauge The Edge didn't even bat an eyelash or break a sweat. While towing I believe the temp hovered around 200-210 F. He has been towing his boat for for the better part of 2 seasons. His Edge was purchased new and now has about 30K on the odometer. With his set up, my confidence was boosted with the towing upgrade I will be doing to my Edge. Important thing, other than going over the tow rating, is making sure you have your tongue weight set up correctly so you're not "nosing up" while towing to prevent fishtailing and instability. Also remember to adjust the setting in the driver settings for towing so the engine is always searching for the right gear.
  3. They don't know what it means. They roll down the window to say WTF are you doing?
  4. She "tolerates" it. I use that word loosely. She can't stand driving in the Vette. Says it's too fast, too loud and too low. I can't blame her. It is a kindney buster and not really intended for extended driving. But she knows this is my joy and says "At least the women you're fooling around with are heavier than me." LOL!
  5. Some say that I am going through a mid-life crisis. Yeah right ... I just love cars. If that is the case, I've been going through this "crisis" since I was 26. I sat down and counted all the cars I had since I started driving. From what I can count and remember, the total is 22. I bought and sold a lot of muscle cars during my years but these are the cars that I am keeping. Thank goodness for my parents having a house with over an acre of land so I can store these babies there. I think we got it from my dad. Between him, my brother and myself, the house looks like there's a party every day with all the cars parked there. LOL This was my first new car purchase. 1996 Impala SS DCM (Julie). Still have it. Only 21K on the odometer. All stock This was my second new purchase. 1999 Tahoe Limited (Tami). Only 7200 made. 2WD Vortec L31 engine and Federal edition Pursuit package. No options. Only OnStar, Towing Package and Engine warmer were options. It only came in Onyx Black. This was my third new purchase. 2006 Z06 (Betty) with 3LT package (fully loaded). This was a "post divorce gift" to myself after the first wife. Wifey and "Betty" This is what happens when you walk away from the car to go get a beer ... OY VEY! Me and the wifey with "Brandi" our 72 LeMans

  7. I like the LED Light bar. What are the dimensions? How far does it stick out from the front fascia? What is the brand? How many Lumens is it? Is it flood and spot or just flood lighting? Do you have closeups of how you mounted it?
  8. This was my first car. It's a 1972 Pontiac LeMans with a 400 CI and TH 400 tranny. It was my dads first car after he immigrated to NYC in 1970. He purchased the car brand new in 1972. It was given to me when I was 18. We still have it. Since then, the engine has been bored .030 over, original tranny has been rebuilt and beefed up, rear end was swapped out for a 3.73 locker and the car has been through a frame off restoration in 2003. Original odometer states 86,934 miles. The engine was rebuilt at roughly 78K. The paint will be refreshed this summer.

Wizard, I will probably drive instead of taking the Auto Train. It has it's advantages but I do want to stop along the way down to visit with friends and family. I don't have a schedule to keep, as long as I am there for my first day of work. When I come back to NY to help my wife drive down ... I will probably be more inclined to take the auto train. She's not one to drive for long distances. She gets very restless. Being able to relax while someone else does the "driving" is a definite plus.
  10. Matt, I like what you did with the LED light bar. Can you post some pics on how you mounted them? What size light bar did you get?

    Towing

Well, I got the job in Ft. Meyers, Florida so I will be moving. I will be putting on the tow hitch, trailer wiring and HD tranny cooler. I won't be towing my wife's Turbo bug. Company is paying for the moving company. I'm moving down first to get situated and then flying back afterwards to drive the bug down with the wifey. I will just drive my Edge down to sunny Florida!
  12. I went a different route and ordered from xenon pro.com. I got the 35w 5000K combo with the anti flicker (warning canceller) for about $120 shipped. Never had a problem with them (auto or manual) and not once did I get the hyper-flashing. Install took me about 30 minutes. I installed them on my 2014 SE

Kinda like the time my wife couldn't figure out why the car kept dinging when she would take off from a stop. She never released the e-brake completely. Asked her if she noticed the brake light, she just responded with "What does it look like?" OY VEY!
  14. For those of you that have plastidipped your rims, how have they held up? Between road grit, salting during the winter ... what are your experiences? Have you touched them up due to normal use? I like the option of just peeling it away and restarting i just don't want to do it constantly. It's too cold to do it her in NY but would be planning to do it once the temps are warmer.

    Towing

Mac, I tow with a purpose equipped truck as well. As far as the upgrades on the Edge, I would be doing it myself. We had a custom garage made at my dad's place with lifts. Hitch, wiring and Tranny cooler total will be below $300-350 range. Even if I didn't tow the wife's car, and had her follow me down, I would still do the towing upgrade for the weekend toys (jet skis).I'm pretty much going to do it, I just have to decide if I can take the stress of having her follow me down or just get a buddy to help me drive both cars down. I cringe at the thought of hearing her complain about the long drive.

Transport will cost about $900. I don't think I will take that route.

    Towing

Since the OEM hitch is only a class 2, a class 3 would probably give me more peace of mind. I have been towing a 21' boat weighing 3700lbs (dry) for years with my Tahoe so yes, I understand the dynamics of towing. Overall, the expense of making my Edge more tow worthy won't be too much. I'd rather tow it than deal with the stress of having my wife follow me in her car. The hours of hearing the radio crackle with "slow down, I'm tired, I'm getting sleepy ... etc" would be worth avoiding Adding the towing upgrades would also allow me to tow some "toys" with the edge. I'm looking for more than just a single reason to add to the Edge. Thanks for your input!

    Towing

I have a 3.5 AWD without the towing package. IF a job venture pans out for me in Florida, I will have to tow my wife's 2012 VW Turbo Bug from Rockland County, NY to Ft. Meyers florida. I know I have to put on the tow hitch and 4 pin wiring. I was looking on line for tranny and oil cooler to address the added heat/strain while towing. My wife's beetle's curb weight is about 2995 ibs. With that being said, have I covered all the bases for this potential tow of over 1200 miles? I know there is a setting to adjust for towing on the edge but I just want to make sure I covered all the bases for towing and not placing my Edge in a "bad place." The only alternative is having my wife follow me in her beatle but I don't think she's looking forward to driving 20+ hrs, following me in her beetle. She's not really a highway driver. She will only do it if absolutely necessary. BTW, her bug is a 6 speed manual, fwd. I was thinking of putting it up on a dolly and pulling it behind my AWD Edge.
