All my tires spin a bit when I actively start from the light in a rain, sometime 1->2 shift is squeaky too (on Blizzak DM-V1 winter tires though).
Mine's AWD, cannot imagine what would it be with just FWD.

On this one safety DOES rely on trim level. You might still remember when things like ABS or even airbags were available only for high end trims.
There are tons of dirt cheap electronics that potentially can save lives on the roads but they are used only on higher trims - nothing personal, just marketing.

For me a major roadblock was 4.4% leasing rate. Transmission issues were fixed for 2016 MY.
Cherokee Limited 3.2 is still really nice machine, and it's active cruise works awesome and even lane assist is better than Ford's
Anyway Edge is faster, has much bigger trunk and is more fun to drive. I don't regret choosing Edge over Cherokee.
I'd say you could have taken Titanium for the price of SEL 3 or so month ago, like I got my Sport for less than Titanium's MSRP.
On the other hand haven't heard about FWD Titanium if FWD is for some non-financial reason.
I've been to 2 dealerships while shopping for my Edge. Was able to find quite unusual version of Sport with those inflatable belts.
