  1. Okay, well my Mazda acts in a similar way. Typing a letter drills down to known cities and only highlights the letters of possibilities. The only voice thing I mess with is "Call Wife" and my mazda does it 7 out of 10 times. I live and die by my Ipod (yeah, old school). I have podcasts I listen to that would fill up a phone fast. So my 160 gig ipod is my pal. Last nights drive of the Titanium gave me mixed results of the Artwork of the album showing up. Again not a big deal but is that a warning flag of other possible problems? The Sync3 reproduced all the artwork faithfully. The titanium showed the generic pictures for 'rock' and 'alternative' and 'music'. Not a big deal at all, other than wondering if the MFT's panties are in a wad and its trying to do too much which may result in a freeze. Dunno. Since my salesman is super cool I may just have to ask him for the keys to an Edge and sit in it for hours tinkering with it while he helps other customers who are ready to buy. Question: When you guys use google maps on your phone, does it throw the google voice commands to the MFT and the Edge's speakers? My mazda used to do that but a recent improvement stopped that (always new, rarely improved). Now when my BT connects and I use google maps its dead silent on the car and phone. Total silence. Sigh...
  2. Is there a way for me to delete this thread? Or is that something a Moderator does?
  3. Can you clarify 'slow and laggy'? Input from a dead stop or is this while you are in motion? Input via hand/manual input or via voice? (Sorry, stickler for the most mundane of details....its how my brain works)
  4. If someone is considering buying a new 2015 Edge, how can that person find out if its been 'flashed' with the most current software to stop this from happening?
  5. Unrelated to this topic but my hand's been slapped about creating new threads..... My super cool salesman at Ford babysat me for about 2 hours last night. I got to try the Sync3 in the Escape. Man that's a killer freaking Infotainment system. Fast & responsive. I spastically jumped menus and functions trying to get it to crash. Could not do it. It would not crash. Now my phone was not connected via BT so I was just using my Ipod. BUT the Santa Fe Sport that I recently drove COULD be crashed in the same way. Just hangs. Sync 3 seems well thought out and rock solid. I drove an Explorer too for grins and giggles. Cool truck but its too huge for my needs. THEN he said I should try the Edge Sport. He warned me of its power. I was unprepared. That thing is a freaking ROCKET! We were doing 80 on the interstate and I punched it and it glued us back to our seats! It has the kind of power I like to call "This will kill me" power. I have no business with that much power, me thinks. We then jumped back to the Edge Titanium that I drove on sunday. Not as much power but enough for what I need. I've dismissed just about every car in its class and the Edge has EVERYTHIGN I need and want. Here is my struggle. Do I wait for the 2016 to get the Sync3? The MFT seemed slower in the Titanium vs the Escape with Sync3. The bell that keeps ringing in my ear is the fact that I can have about 4000.00 in discounts on a new 2015. That's nothing to sneeze at. BUT knowing that I suffer from 'battered wife syndrome' because of my mazda3's infotainment....it gives me the brain pain. My heart (and wallet) want to jump now..my brain tells me to wait. How happy are you guys with the MFT in your 2015 Edges? Are you loosing BT connectivity? Are you seeing MFT lock up and not reboot? At this point the only car that checks off all the boxes on my list of needs/wants/desires is the Edge. Just wonder if I should wait for Sync3/2016.
  6. Got it, but going third party still means max tow at 2K, right? Suppose that means its less about towing and more for accessories like bike racks and what not. Or am I missing something? Most trailers I have seen are 1500 lbs dry which means any mulch or mowers will push the limit easily. The sport could be the wrong 'tool for the job' I suppose. If I need more towing capacity then look at the non sport models.
  7. Whoah, wait a moment guys. Let me stop the dogpile before more continue. In my Defense, I've never started a topic on MyFord Touch, first of all. I started a thread bout OVERALL ford quality which could, in theory, touch on MFT but also address many other things . I wanted answers drilled down specifically to MFT. I have joined many forums before for many different things. I did not want to hijack my own thread as I wanted specific answers to MFT and not a mixed bag of replies to leaky floors, stopping cars and what not. My bad on not searching. But when I do search 'MyFord Touch' it returns threads that are titled "What did you do with your Edge today?". Yeah, not what I was searching for. Forgive me guys for doing my research and being hyper sensitive certain things. I drive a mazda that had a rough road of a Infotainment system. I simply was looking for speifics as up to date as I could. I have now discovered a sub forum that talks about these things. As for searching google....all I get are car and driver reports mocking how fooking bad MFT is.....yeah, not so helpful. When in rome....I guess. I'll just post my concerns on other threads. Hopefully no one will flip out and accuse me of hijacking.
  8. I'm late to the game of Ford, sorry If this has been discussed before. What are the issues with MFT? Are the issues STILL there with the latest upgrade? I've seen some videos of it freezing and not resetting. Some folks had problems with the phone not connecting. Those of you in 2015 Edge's .... are you having issues? Thanks, D
  9. All good thoughts and info. I had the exact same thought about the current radio being phased out. "Do I want to buy something knowing its obsolete?"...literally 10 minutes ago. I think I need to slow my roll and just be patient. I'd have to be REALLY convinced there is a substantial difference in quality/reliability on the 2016's when the 2015's are still being held up a month and a half before the end of the year. Maybe that's my answer. I am looking for rock solid reliability in Ford and the level I see is just not there. Too many issues all in 1 year. You build a house brick by brick. If there are many little bricks that are questionable then how sound is the house? I spent some time over in the Explorer forum today. Not a lot of comforting info there either. I REALLY liked the Edge I drove but I simply don't have the confidence in Ford that I do with Honda or Toyota. I may in fact be looking for a purple squirrel! Outback's have loads of complaints and even some videos about the wind noise created by the side mirrors. Its got many of its owners very upset. D
  10. Yes I was surprised how cheap they seem compared to my old Civic! I suppose it serves its function.
  11. Isnt the sport limited to 2000 lbs MAX for towing? Also, don't auto Mfg's suggest never getting anywhere near the max towing rating? I'd heard it said if the max is 3000 lbs then for anything more than a short trip you should go no higher than 2500ish. Am I wrong?
  12. The Camry quote got a loud and unexpected belly laugh out of me!
  13. So I gotta ask. How widespread was the 'engine dying while in motion' problem? 1 out of 10? 1 out of 100? Is it even answerable?
  14. Akirby, This is so true. By day I'm a Technical Recruiter working with Manufacturing companies. We do a TON of Tier 1 auto business. I can recall a story of the Canton MS Nissan facility putting a SEA of suv's on hold due to the plant manager showing up for work one morning and EVERY SINGLE SUV on the parking lot ready for shipment had flat tires. The jackleg supplier that was responsible for putting the tires on the rims were....uh....not doing their job very well. Imagine the ass chewing they got from him! Odd thing about that Canton plant is that they have many of their suppliers attached to their assembly plant. Many are elsewhere but some are literally sharing property with Nissan. They complete their product and put them on a conveyor belt to the assembly line. I've known suppliers to stop Caterpillar dead in its tracks to the tune of a million dollars a day due to quality issues! But at some point Ford must own the issue. They did on the leak and that's good to see. Just seeing other issues that have me cautious. D
  15. Baseball, Dude, thanks for your answer and story. Yeah, the Probe I had required a new transmission. Its the ONLY car I have ever owned in my 46 years that required a MAJOR replacement like that. I had an extended warranty that paid for its self with that one repair. This is back in 1997. I was kinda hoping to come to the forums and see improvements with Ford. I am seeing a few things here and some there.........enough to spook me. Right now I am in a good place. My 2014 Mazda runs smooth like a sports car and is paid off. Damn thing sits too low to the ground and my hauling/towing needs will change as we buy property in the next few months. I always buy extended warranties on my cars and have no issues, as of late, wasting that money as I never need them. Its added insurance. With the FORD its a must and I have to reconcile with myself that the Edge WILL be in the shop. I have seen posts in various places of folks leaving their Edges for weeks at a time with the Tech's scratching their heads. Again, this is alien to me and a serious Pain in the Arse if it happens. So.......I sit in indecision. Part of me wants to roll the dice. Especially with the huge discounts they are offering. Safe to say the F&F discounts wont be here when the '16s roll out. Again I appreciate everyone's replies to my concerns and all of them in an adult way. its refreshing. I am hyper sensitive to issues like this and spook easily from a model or brand of a car. Right now the Edge is the only real option I am entertaining. I decided last night to not even try the Santa Fe sport. Nissan is totally out due to their rubber band tranny's and the problems (MOUNTAIN of issues) they are having with them. Sigh.......
  16. Thanks wingnut. I suppose I just find it odd on the 2015's. Especially with the 2016's literally about to be pushed out of the birth canal. They are still sussing out issues on the 2015's. Are they ready to manufacture 2016 Edges? I may just be hypersensitive. Just does not instill brand confidence in me. I may be the lone nut with that POV. Dunno.
  17. How many ECU updates has the 2015 edge had? Is this a common update for Ford products, by in large?
  18. Luminator, Not trying to be combative. But I have owned a 2008 Civic, 2010 Insight, 2012 Pilot and a 2014 Mazda 3. My wife owned a 2006 Outlander that she drove into the ground. NONE of them had an ECU update, that we are aware of. If they did it, they did not tell us a thing about it. I always look at my paperwork when I get oil changes and other things done and never seen it written down. I actually had to google ECU to see what it even means. Maybe its something common with American car companies but its not something I've seen. And I tend to buy too many damn cars :-) (as I noticed as I typed the above list). Sounds like your experience is much different than mine. D
  19. I gotta ask (being the OP of the reliability thread). Does this second hold on the Edge line speak to something much bigger happening? I am NOT a tin foil conspiracy nut. But just a casual observer of what is happening to the Edge's in 2015. Yes a quality hold sounds great. Great they caught it. But dang, twice in 1 year? Have to admit this sounds bad. The edge has pretty much everything I want but what's with Ford? I'm starting to get spooked from the brand, truth be told.
  20. @Evilkid, Thanks for the informative reply. Good info here. My wife drives a new Honda HR-V and its just perfect for her. Its a 'neat' Small SUV but not for me. I need something with a bit more power. For performance and towing. Right now the only thing Honda has that can tow is the beastly Pilot. I've owned one and they are great SUV's but with my kids grown and out of the house I don't need THAT MUCH car. The CRV looks nice in its redesign but it cant tow. Toyota's highlander is a looker but near the price of a lexus and a quick walk over to the highlander forums and you will see the multiple threads on how bad the JBL system sounds in that car. I need a good stereo. Music is important to me. It seems that ford's finally worked the bugs out of MFT right as they are phasing it out. Hmmm. Wonder if the new one will take years to get right? They are apparently in the new explorers. Hearing of your leak problem is concerning. I wont be getting an AWD but it speaks to continued 'issues' that seem to be part of the Ford brand. My dad's always owned fords. His fords are always going into the shop for minor little things beyond the regular maintenance. This is alien to me as I have owned Japanese cars most of my adult hood and only deal with oil changes for the most part. My mazda has been the exception but its only been in the shop for the updates to the catastrophic infotainment system they cant seem to get working properly. Good news is the updates only take a few minutes and a USB drive. Not gaskets, sealants and engine flash updates that the Edge seems troubled with. At this point I am holding off on the 2015 Edge and waiting to see what the 2016's bring. Its just that the 2015's have such HUGE discounts right now. With the friends & family discount and other discounts I could save nearly 4000 on a new 2015! I am torn.
  21. I WILL say the audio system in the 2015 Edge knocked my Di*k in the dirt! WOW! FULL, sounds great and LOUD!!!!!!! Audio IS important to me. I am a part time recording engineer/producer and sound is VERY important. This is why the Highlander is not even on my list. Somehow JBL and Toyota managed to screw that up...strange!
  22. Excellent reply! Thanks for all the info. So I see various mentions of the current Sync but not really sure what the problems are. Also, is the 2015 edge a redesign? As you say that's reason enough to take pause. I've totally eliminated any Nissan product in my search now. Way to much crap about that CVT. It 'appears' that Subaru has admitted to the windshield crack issue and are fixing those cars but other complaints are about the wind noise generated from the side mirrors. Its apparently pretty obnoxious! I have been tempted to go check out the Santa Fe Sport. Something is telling me to be cautious of the 2015 edge. Its hard with the DEEP cuts in prices they are giving. Crazy deep!
  23. OUCH! Waldo, that hurt :-) Well, I wont have this Mazda for long. I am too old and too fat to be climbing UP and out of this car.
  24. Thanks for your insightful answer and not bashing me. I gotta tell ya, the fellers in the Toyota Tacoma forums are out for BLOOD! You ask a simple question and they do their best to insult you and dog pile on ya. D
