  1. Will be checking around when the conti's eventually wear out what other options there are available such as the michelin's. Is it a standard MKX thing to have the M's vs the Conti's on the Edge?
  2. Never happened in 4k on this vehicle or 250k on other cars (personal or business). I would put it down to user error or a really bad line shock (hammer) when it shut off. Maybe it wasnt far enough in and just sitting on the edge thus the shock knocked it off. BTW how come the pump was still discharging fuel when it made that jump to stop fueling, or was it that small amount of gas contained in the nozzle? Didnt think the angle was that bad, have left the handle in the car and cleaned the windows or held it by the car, but didnt feel any urge for it to jump out of the hole when it stopped.
  3. I have tried out the Edge in what we call sugar sand here (fine and easy to stick in) and it worked well shifting power around the wheels - well at least we got into and out of the sand! We also took it on some farmland when we went to a pick your own farm the other month and it took the dirt well although i dont think it ever engaged the rear wheels though. I havent take it on my many other backroads yet with dirt, mud, tree stumps and such, but i am sure given time it will happen. As for your test, did you floor it up the hill or just take it easy? From what i gather there is traction control as well as the AWD that should control that kind of thing. I would hope on a gentle grade like it appears on your photos that the Edge would make it up easily and without spinning out.
  4. We went for the door edge moldings, rathat than the mid-height strip. Didnt get a color match, so we got a good contrast that fits in with the black on the rest of the trim items!
  5. Personally i have no issue with the headrest, i cant even touch it unless i really throw my head back and practically look at the roof. I have the seat somewhat reclined and have a deep chest which might be the reason why my head is a good distance off the headrest....
  6. This past week was a little low around 16.7mpg due to excessive idling and lots of around town driving with nothing on the highway. Overall average now 18.8mpg, should be picking up with that big road trip, although we are going to be hauling a bunch of stuff for the trip (including getting one those hitch mounted carriers), so i dont expect much more than 22-23mpg on average through the highway portion of the trip.
  7. We have a few sections of road around here that have little grooves or something in them, or large waves of material - most cars i have driven on these areas make a little extra noise, bounce or have a slight vibration. I often wonder if it is the car and then recall that we are on one of those sections of road again!
  8. There is a TSB out about the car trying to start in 4th gear and jumping down to 1st making a jerking motion. Check out the section on TSB's/recalls and find the number to take to your dealership to get it fixed. I dont have this problem with my Edge.
  9. Personally i believe that the car cools down plenty using these vents, but as they cant be aimed towards the passengers as easily, that it feels like the car isnt cooling down quickly as they arent cooling down quickly by their skin having air blown across it. Even in the mid-90's we are getting now, the car cools down in a couple of minutes to the high 70's if i put the AC on max (60F on auto) for that time - it doesnt blow on me, just pumps cold air into the car.
  10. I know the owners manual says that this vehicle is capable of being towed four wheels down, but i was wondering if anyone had tried it yet behind an RV or such? We bought the car not thinking we'd need this feature, but have more recently started thinking about going the RV route in the future. Just so happens the Edge AWD can do that (not sure about the FWD, but cant see why not). I havent read the owners manual in a while, so dont recall if it suggests taking any steps or how you carry this out. So has anyone done it or have any tips on doing it?
  11. Mine is still gradually improving, or i am driving even more conservatively than before. Now up to 18.6mpg for practically the same drive each week. We now have almost 4000 miles on our Edge. My overall with approximately 70/30 city/hwy is 19mpg. We have had the AC on practically every day since we got the car due to the heat down here. The first month or so we occasionally got away with it, but once the summer started coming in.... Have a big road trip planned in a few weeks, about 1200 miles each way split into various stages, we'll see how the car does on that load of highway driving, with a bit more hill than we have in Florida! Going to put it in for its first oil change just before the trip, maybe in a couple of weeks and give it another week or so of shake out with the new oil/filter etc before taking the big trip.
  12. Its usually the head admin/owner of the site. However i have all of you beat in terms of being on here, but there are another 405 who could say the same of me
  13. The factory rack is supposed to support 100# plus the rack weight, they suggest any more would damage the roof. The most i am going to stick up there would be two poly yak's which would be about 120# total, i wouldnt want to put much more on there. I would imagine that the vista roof glass and mechanisms are at least that kind of weight, plus you dont have internal bracing that you might have from a solid panel and any support for the roof structure that you would have with the non-vista roof, so i wouldnt like to say what the roof could hold when equipped with the BAMR - and i dont think Ford would like to tell anyone what they think either in terms of liability.
  14. The only way i can think to flip this car is by driving really fast onto the curb or something higher, i have already tested the rollover prevention in cornering and the braking it applies appears to really stop the car from even thinking of rolling. I agree with akirby, why/how could the transmission lock up from the engine turning off?
  15. Only had this kind of thing happen on one car so far, my old Nissan. The mass air flow sensor fell off the engine and as the computer didnt think there was any air flowing through the engine, it cut the engine off. I coasted to the side and tried to restart, got a tow and had a nice $300 bill for them to stick a new sensor back on as it was just out of warranty!

    Rolling in Park

IF you dont use the parking brake, then it will roll a little, just like every other automatic i have driven (probably 100 different cars), however when you put the parking brake on it doesnt move. The movement in park allows the mechanism to lock up, the parking brake just applies the brakes, hence less movement. I never park without the hand/emergency/foot/parking brake as i hate that knock noise and feeling most autos give when you try to disengage park and shift into a gear, cant imagine if that is doing some damage somewhere, but most people do it regardless.
  17. Its condensation that was on the AC unit, being so cold it has a low dew point and moisture in the air sticks to it until you turn it off, then the unit warms up and the water drips off.
  18. Agree on the recirculate, particularly when its hot out! However, even though i leave mine on auto and just adjust the climate temperature, sometimes the recirculate function turns itself off, usually when i turn the temp down to the minimum for max cooling. I just have to turn it back on, but sometimes i dont remember or notice for a while and then wonder why its not cooling as quickly before seeing its not on.

    MPG??????

Reset it whenever you feel like it, there isnt any hard and fast rule or actual reason to do it at a certain time period. Recently i was resetting mine every few miles to get all those straight line MPG's for various speeds. I usually do it at each fill up to see how it compares to the manual calc, but it wouldnt kill either myself or the car to do it less or more often.
  20. If you disengage the auto, there are something like 7 settings for speed, the further you set the climate control off the actual internal temperature the harder it blows. Its still moving into the mid-90's most days here. I generally keep the climate on 70-75 when i get in for a few minutes to bring it down and then 78-80 for most of the time. If i take it off auto the flow that typically around 3-4 of the 7 settings.

    MPG??????

I did a little testing the other day and found the following were the approximate straight line mileage (no stopping, acceleration, just cruising) all on fairly flat surfaces: Speed Mileage MPH MPG 20 23 25 25 30 28 35 30 40 31 45 32 50 31 55 29 60 27.5 65 26 70 25 75 23 80 20 So its pretty economical to cruise at 20mph rather than stop and start from 0-30/40mph to go with the traffic and stays fairly economical from 30 on up to between 60 and 70 after which it drops off again. The maximum occured just after the transmission hit 6th at 43mph, however you can then slack off a bit to 40mph and get 33mpg which is probably the most you can get on the flat. Obviously adding in acceleration/braking and such, basically not maintaining a solid speed on a highway drops you below that and terrain can also affect it quite a bit too. If you take off about 20-25% for general driving and probably over 30% if you are driving in hilly areas, then you are pretty much at the EPA numbers for 20 to 25mph in the city and around 50-60mph on the highway of 17-19 and 21-23, respectively - so it all kind of pans out eventually. I got a little less this last tank at 18.1 with almost all city driving for almost 350 miles over the last month (i hadnt filled up for 4 weeks). We are planning on taking the Edge on a long road trip (FL-NY) in a while and i will wait to see what a real highway test does for this thing through hills and such.
  22. We have been getting temps in the high 80's and up to mid-90's for a few months now in FL and the AC has been on practically all the time! My wife complains about the vents not pushing the air towards her face, only at her arms - this is a vent issue with those long narrow slits they have on there, whereas most cars have those boxy vents. The car cools down plenty quick enough, but the air may not blow on you as much as in other cars where you get a bit more directional control, thus making it feel like the car isnt cooling as your sweat on your skin isnt able to evaporate as easily. The air speed varies (on auto) depending on what the desired temperature is compared to the actual temperature - the closer it is the slower the air flow, hence they suggest putting it on max and 60F to get the max cooling. As for the window issue, if i am going to have my windows down anywhere in the car, the front ones go down first, then the rear - why do i want to keep the air flowing in and cooling the back and not myself????
  23. Its comfortable, tons of headroom and unlike most cars i dont have to have the seat all the way to the back of the rack - which is a nice change! The seats are plenty wide even for my ample 260+ backside

    MPG??????

Again we have to remember you are from up north where the numbers are backwards 11.9L/km and more in the city, not 11.9mpg - that would be some stop and go or slow moving or 100mph+ highway driving to get that in mileage!
  25. Being somewhat tall at 6'3" i can say that height doesnt have too much to do with these being annoying or not, its all in how far back you hold your head compared to your shoulders. I dont hold my head really far back when driving, somewhat directly of the top of my sternum and i have to really push it back there to feel the headrest. I will however say they are too short, the top edge of mine when at full extension reaches about the middle of the back of my head when i put it back. That would probably be enough to prevent a huge whiplash on a rear end, but would be uncomfortable were i to hold me head far back. I do tilt my chair back a little, its not upright, maybe 20 deg off upright or so, just enough to make it comfortable for me and my wife enjoys it the same way.
